1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The CM-221M Hands-Free Switch utilizes active infra-red microburst sensor technology, designed for use in ADA compliant automatic door control applications and access control systems. The CM-221M switches eliminate the spread of germs by avoiding physical contact, providing enhanced convenience. Switches are available with stainless steel faceplates in narrow (jamb) or single gang configurations. All models are ROHS compliant with lead-free construction. Integrated remote LED switching allows for integration with third-party applications, such as guard and nurse station annunciators. Features include adjustable time delay from 0.5 to 20 seconds and an adjustable sensing range from 2 to 8 inches (5cm to 20cm).

  • Toggle function selection available.
  • IP65 rating.
  • IR lens for stable and reliable operation.

4. OPERATION AT A GLANCE

In a typical application, the CM-221's LED will be red when approached. Waving a hand in front of the switch changes the LED to green and triggers its relay to unlock the door or activate the door operator. The toggle feature allows the door to remain unlocked until a second wave action relocks it.

5. CONFIGURING THE CM-221M

Range of Detection and Output Duration

The back of the CM-221M features two adjustment potentiometers. The left potentiometer controls the detection range (2" to 8" / 5cm to 20cm) by turning clockwise to increase. The right potentiometer sets the output duration (0.5 to 20 seconds) by turning clockwise to increase. Turning the output duration potentiometer fully clockwise enables the Toggle feature, maintaining the output state until triggered again.

Remote LED Switching

The CM-221M's LED states can be controlled remotely by installing the supplied jumper onto the two pins on the back of the unit. When installed, bringing either the yellow wire (controls green LED) or the white wire (controls red LED) low (to ground) triggers the LED state change. These wires can be used individually or wired to a SPDT contact for simultaneous control (e.g., red on/green off, or vice versa).

Diagram showing two adjustment potentiometers on the back of the unit. The left potentiometer adjusts detection range (2" to 8" / 5cm to 20cm) by turning clockwise to increase. The right potentiometer adjusts output time delay (0.5 to 20 seconds) by turning clockwise to increase. A note indicates that turning the time delay potentiometer fully clockwise enables the Toggle feature. Below the potentiometers are 'MODE PINS' with labels 'OPEN (Default position)' for internal LED control by the IR sensor, and 'SHORTED' for external control via yellow and white wires.

6. WIRING THE CM-221

1. Connection to a Maglock

Connect the maglock's ground (-) to the VDC power supply's ground (-). Connect the maglock's positive (+) to the manual pushbutton's Normally Closed (N.C.) terminal. Connect the pushbutton's common (com) terminal to the PIR sensor's purple wire (normally closed). Jumper the PIR sensor's blue (common) and red (power +) wires together and connect them to the DC power supply's positive (+) terminal. Connect the PIR sensor's black (-) wire to the DC power supply's negative (-) terminal.

It shows connections from the maglock ground to the power supply ground, maglock positive to the pushbutton's Normally Closed (N.C.) terminal. The pushbutton's common terminal connects to the PIR sensor's purple wire (normally closed). The PIR sensor's blue (common) and red (power +) wires are jumpered and connected to the DC power supply positive terminal. The PIR sensor's black (-) wire connects to the DC power supply negative terminal. A CX-PS13 Power Supply (12 or 24 VDC) and a CX-TR Transformer (120 VAC) are shown. A table details the 7-wire IR sensor harness colors (Red, Black, Yellow, White, Green, Blue, Purple) and their functions, and the 3-wire pushbutton harness colors (Red, Black, White) and their functions.

2. Connection to a Door Operator

This section details wiring the CM-221M Touchless Switch to a door operator for remote LED control. It is noted that the jumper must be ON, shorting the two pins, to enable remote selection of LED colors. A manual pushbutton with an SPDT switch is shown for remotely controlling the green and red LEDs.

3. Connection to an External Strike

This section provides wiring instructions for connecting the CM-221M Touchless Switch to an external strike. It specifies that the jumper must be OFF, with the two pins not shorted. A manual pushbutton is shown, and a MOV (Metal Oxide Varistor) is indicated for surge protection across the strike terminals.

7. POWER

The CM-221M is a VDC device only and accepts a voltage range from 12VDC to 24VDC (+/- 10%). AC voltage must not be connected at any time. A linear output VDC power supply is strongly recommended. If using a power source other than Camden's CX-PS13 filtered regulated power supply, measure the provided power before connecting. Voltages exceeding the specified range by more than 10%, or power supplies with significant AC voltage (unfiltered, unregulated power like transformers and rectifiers), may damage the CM-221M and void the warranty.

DIMENSIONS

Diagrams showing the physical dimensions of the CM-221M switch. Front views display the 'WAVE TO EXIT' and 'OVERRIDE' elements. Key dimensions provided include: Widths of 1 3/4" [43mm] for narrow configuration and 2 3/4" [70mm] for single gang configuration. Height is 4 1/2" [114mm]. Depth is 1 1/4" [31mm].
