Using the AB40 as a Horizontal Adapter with MM700

The AB40 can be used as a 90° bridge between the Lifting Mechanism and the Wall Plate, allowing MantelMount to attach to horizontal surfaces such as inside an alcove or recess.

The flat surface must be framed with wood studs or beams that are strong enough to secure the Wall Plate.

Installation Steps:

Step 1: Connect components using HEX BOLT (14135) and LOCK NUT (12187).

Diagram on Page 2 illustrates the AB40 Adapter Bracket configured as a horizontal adapter for the MantelMount MM700. It depicts wall studs, a wall plate, the AB40 bracket assembly, and the lifting mechanism. Key installation requirements are shown: the mounting surface must be at least 15 inches deep, the wall structure must be at least 26 inches high, and the maximum allowable height for the installation is 11 inches. Steps 1-4 show the assembly process with hardware connections. A prominent warning states: [warning] Lag Bolts must be installed into solid wood!

Step 3: Secure the assembly using LAG BOLT (12154) and WASHER (14126). [warning] Lag Bolts must be installed into solid wood! The mounting depth into the wall structure should be a maximum of 1 inch.

Using the AB40 as a Horizontal Adapter with MM340 or MM540

This configuration also uses the AB40 as a horizontal adapter, connecting to the MantelMount MM340 or MM540.

Installation Steps:

Step 1: This setup requires the SSB40 Kit.

Step 2: Connect components using SCREW (12179) and WASHER (14126).

Step 3: Connect components using HEX BOLT (14135) and LOCK NUT (12187).

Diagram on Page 3 details the AB40 Adapter Bracket used as a horizontal adapter for the MantelMount MM340 or MM540. It shows wall studs, a wall plate, the AB40 bracket assembly, and the lifting mechanism, noting that the SSB40 Kit is required. Key installation requirements are: the mounting surface must be at least 14 inches deep, the wall structure must be at least 26 inches high, and the maximum allowable height for the installation is 14 inches. Steps 1-5 illustrate the assembly, including the SSB40 Kit connection. A prominent warning states: [warning] Lag Bolts must be installed into solid wood!

Step 4: Secure the assembly using LAG BOLT (12154) and WASHER (14126). [warning] Lag Bolts must be installed into solid wood! The mounting depth into the wall structure should be a maximum of 3 inches.

Using the AB40 as a Pass-through Bracket

The AB40 can be used to "pass-through" a facade material, such as fake stone or brick. These materials are often not strong enough to hold the MantelMount directly, and can be too thick for standard lag bolts to reach studs.

The AB40 is attached to studs installed behind a custom-built wall, resulting in a very small visual footprint.

Before installation, measure the maximum thickness of the facade material and the wall sheathing. Set the mounting surface of the AB40 slightly further out from the studs to accommodate this total thickness. This ensures the MantelMount does not touch the wall facade.

Diagram on Page 4 demonstrates the AB40 Adapter Bracket used as a pass-through bracket for facade materials like stone or brick. It presents a wall cross-section showing wall studs, plywood sheathing, and the facade material. The AB40 bracket is shown attached to the studs behind the facade. Notes advise orienting the mounting holes upward for a smaller profile and ensuring the bracket's surface distance from studs is slightly greater than the combined thickness of the wall sheathing and facade. The width of the AB40 bracket is specified as 6.25 inches (160 mm).

Compatibility Notes:

  • MantelMount MM340 and MM540 require the SSB40 Kit for this configuration.
  • MantelMount MM700 will attach directly to the AB40.
