Button Controller Features

Alert Indications

The Button Controller's LED will flash red when alerting. Since laser signals are a possible threat, ZR6 alerts you with a continuous audible alert and voice notification, indicating whether the laser signal is from the front or rear (rear shifters must be installed for rear alerts). If shifting is disabled, ZR6 will say "alert" instead of "shifting" upon receiving a laser signal.

Power

Press the [PWR button] to turn ZR6 on. To turn ZR6 off, press and hold the [PWR button] until you hear "Powering Down".

Volume and Mute

Press and hold the [VOL/MUTE button] to adjust the alert volume level. The audio will ramp up and down. Release the button when your preferred audio level is reached. Both the ZR6 mute button and the mute button on the connected detector will mute an alert. Subsequent notifications will produce standard audible alerts.

To temporarily disable shifting for 30 seconds, double-tap the mute button of the ZR6 or the connected detector. After 30 seconds, ZR6 will announce that shifting is enabled again.

Mode

Press the [MODE button] to switch between "shifting" and "receive-only" modes. In "receive-only" mode, ZR6 will only alert to laser signals without engaging in shifting.

Settings

ZR6 Shifter Setup in Drive Smarter® App

Available Shifter options: Receive / Shift* / Shift4 / Shift6 / Shift8 / Shift10 / Off.

Shifter mode: "Receive" means receive-only.

Shift4/6/8/10 modes put shifters in receive-only mode after 4/6/8/10 seconds from receiving an alert.

To configure: Using Drive Smarter, go to your device settings, select the "Shifts" option. This will bring up a separate menu screen with available options to choose.

NOTE: This feature is only available when optional ZR6 shifters are connected.

ZR6 Shifter Setup on Radar Detector

Manually adjust preferences on your radar detector. Scroll through the list until you find "Shifters" and select the desired option from the available list: Receive, Shift, Shift4, Shift6, Shift8, Shift10, Off.

Sensor Installation

Positioning Sensors

Install the two VX transceiver sensors between the side and center of the vehicle. Install the one VX transmitter sensor in the center of the vehicle, between the two transceiver sensors.

For optimal performance, sensors must face straight forward (or backward for optional rear sensors), not angled. Ensure each sensor is parallel to the road using the supplied [bubble level].

NOTE: Position the vehicle on a flat surface for accurate sensor alignment. Ensure sensors have an unobstructed "view" of the road. Do not install behind solid surfaces that block transmission/reception.

(Diagrams illustrate correct and incorrect sensor positioning relative to the road, showing parallel alignment with the road surface.)

Sensor Installation Steps

  1. Snap the mounting bracket onto the sensor and install the included bolts, but do not tighten them. If the bolts do not thread into the sensor, the bracket may be backwards.
  2. Check front alignment and mount the sensor to a solid vehicle surface.
  3. Use the [bubble level] to ensure the sensor is parallel to the road, then tighten the sensor's mounting bracket bolts.
  4. Repeat for additional sensors.

IMPORTANT!

VX sensors ship in "receive-only" mode. Shifting must be enabled in the bands settings. See the Settings section of the Owners Manual.

Rear Shifter VX Sensors

Follow the same instructions for installing sensors on the rear of your vehicle. Refer to page 8 for positioning illustrations.

Securing Connectors with Shrink Tube

After installing all components properly and testing them, use [cable ties] to secure sensor cables to a solid surface, keeping them away from heat and moving parts. It is advisable to use the supplied [heatshrink tubes] to protect connectors against dirt, moisture, and dust.

NOTE: For rear shifter extension cables, install them inverted so they plug correctly into the sensors.

Interface Installation

  1. Install the Interface under the dash using supplied [zip-ties].

NOTE: Do not mount the Interface inside the vehicle's engine compartment.

  1. Connect the black wire (-) to [ground connection] and the red-striped wire (+) to a switched 12-volt supply. This allows the ZR6 to power on/off with the vehicle ignition.
  2. The Shifter VX Bridge Box, Control Module, and optional radar detector all plug into the Interface.
  3. It is recommended to test all components for proper operation after connecting power before completing the installation.

Default Configuration: (Diagram shows DIP switches 1-6 for FRONT/REAR configuration.)

IMPORTANT!

When using optional Rear Shifter VX sensors, ensure DIP switches 3 and 4 are moved to the REAR position (down).

Button Controller and Shifter Bridge Box Installation

Button Controller

  1. Determine the best location for the Controller: it should be easily visible, accessible from the driver's position, and not interfere with normal driving. Avoid locations requiring reaching through or around the steering wheel.
  2. Clean the mounting surface thoroughly.
  3. Mount the Button Controller using the pre-applied adhesive.
  4. Route the cable to the Interface and plug into the port labeled "Controller".

Shifter VX Bridge Box

  1. The Shifter VX Bridge Box is weatherproof. To minimize cables routed through the firewall, install the Bridge Box inside the engine compartment.
  2. Slide the included [heatshrink tubes] onto the Bridge Box Interface cable. Plug it into the cable extending from the Bridge Box labeled "Interface". Route the cable towards the vehicle interior, shrink the heat shrink onto the inline connector, and secure with [zip-ties].
  3. Route the cable to the Interface and plug into the port labeled "Shifters".
