How to Check if Your Car Supports Wired Apple CarPlay or Android Auto

You can verify your car's compatibility using one of the following methods:

  1. Method 1: Cable Connection Test

Connect your iPhone or Android phone to the car's main USB port using a data cable. If your car supports Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, the respective interface will automatically appear on the car's screen.

  2. Method 2: Multimedia Menu Check

Navigate through your car's multimedia menu. If you find an icon labeled "CarPlay" or "Android Auto," it indicates that your vehicle has built-in support for these features.

How to Use the Auto Link Adapter

Follow these steps to connect your phone to the car's system wirelessly:

  1. Insert the Auto Link adapter into the car's USB or USB-C port.

(Note: If your car has multiple ports, ensure you use the one designated for wired Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.)

  2. Wait for the connection interface to appear on the car's screen.

(Note: The CarPlay interface is displayed by default. Android Auto typically operates without a dedicated UI overlay.)

  3. On your iPhone or Android phone, enable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Find and pair with the Bluetooth device named "Auto_Link-****".

    Click "Allow" when prompted.

Select "Use CarPlay" or "Use Android Auto" to start the connection.

Principle of Operation

The Auto Link adapter establishes an initial connection between your phone and the vehicle using Bluetooth. Once paired, it seamlessly switches to a Wi-Fi connection for stable wireless communication. After a successful Bluetooth pairing, your phone's Wi-Fi will automatically connect to the adapter's Wi-Fi network, and the Bluetooth connection will be disconnected by default.

Important Note: If your phone's Bluetooth is simultaneously connected to other devices, it may interfere with CarPlay's microphone input or audio playback. You might need to manually disconnect from other Bluetooth devices or disable Bluetooth temporarily to resolve this.

LED Indicator Explanation

The adapter features LED indicators to show its operational status:

Online Upgrade and Start-up Delay Setting

(The device is functioning correctly, indicating the current firmware version is suitable for your vehicle. Firmware updates are generally not recommended unless you are experiencing issues that cannot be resolved through the FAQ section.)

Upgrade Steps / Accessing Settings Interface

  1. Power on the Auto Link device.
  2. Connect your iPhone to the device's Wi-Fi network (named "Auto_Link-****") using the password "12345678".
  3. Open the Safari browser on your iPhone and navigate to the IP address "192.168.1.101".
  4. Click the "Update" button.
  5. On the same configuration page, you can optionally provide details about your car (manufacturer, model, year) and describe any issues you are facing. Click "Submit" to report the problem to the engineering team for research and potential solutions.
  6. After the upgrade process is complete, restart your iPhone once before using the adapter again.
  7. Any parameter adjustments made in the background will take effect after unplugging and re-plugging the device.

Note: Android phones currently do not support online firmware upgrades.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  1. Can the adapter pair with multiple phones?

Yes, the adapter can pair with multiple phones, but it can only connect to one device at a time. To pair with a new phone, first disconnect the current connection, turn off your phone's Wi-Fi, and disable Bluetooth. By default, the adapter's Bluetooth will automatically connect to the last used phone.

  2. The device's indicator lights remain on even after the car is turned off.

This is because some car systems do not immediately cut off all power when the ignition is turned off. The device's lights may stay on for a period. Rest assured, the adapter consumes minimal power and will not drain your car's battery.

  3. Unable to find the device's Bluetooth or Wi-Fi?
    1. Restart your phone.
    2. Reset your phone's network and Bluetooth settings.
    3. Try testing with a different phone.
  4. Audio function is abnormal.

Check if your phone's Bluetooth is connected to other devices. If it is, ensure you ignore or disconnect from those other automatic Bluetooth connections.

  5. Unable to reconnect automatically.
    1. When entering the car, ensure your phone's Bluetooth and Wi-Fi functions are enabled and Bluetooth is not occupied by another connection.
    2. Clear the Bluetooth pairing records on your phone, restart the phone, and then reconnect the adapter.
  6. What is the password for connecting to Wi-Fi?

You need to connect to the device via Bluetooth, not Wi-Fi. Bluetooth pairing does not require a password. When pairing, ensure your phone's Wi-Fi is enabled and not connected to another network.
