Typical Installation
It is recommended to apply proper insulation around the fan to minimize heat loss and gain. This fan is designed for use with a 4-inch duct. Using a rigid duct is recommended, but flexible duct, cut to size and fully extended, is also acceptable.
Ducting significantly impacts airflow, noise, and energy use. Use the shortest, straightest duct routing possible for best performance. Avoid using smaller ducts than recommended. Insulation around ducts can reduce energy loss and inhibit mold growth. Fans installed with existing ducts may not achieve rated airflow.

New Construction Installation
BEFORE INSTALLATION
WARNING: RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK! Ensure electricity to the wires is shut off. Remove fuse or turn off circuit breaker.
- Place the fan housing (A) next to a ceiling joist. Ensure it is level and perpendicular to the joist. Allow for ceiling board thickness. Position the fan housing (A) so its bottom edge is flush with the ceiling board. Do not flush mount to the bottom of the joist.
- Mount the fan housing (A) to the joist using wood screws (AA) through the indicated holes on the metal tabs. Tighten screws until the housing is securely fastened.
- Attach the duct connector (C) to the fan housing (A). Remove protective tape from the duct connector flap.
- Remove the wiring box cover from the fan housing (A) using a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the knockout from the wiring box cover with a flathead screwdriver.
- Pull house wires through the hole in the wiring box cover. Using quick connectors, connect house wiring from the wall switch to the fan housing (A). Use 14 AWG as the smallest conductor for branch-circuit wiring. Refer to wiring diagrams on page 4 for proper connections. Carefully push wire connections into the housing and reattach the cover.
- Connect a 4-inch circular duct to the duct connector on the fan housing (A), securing with duct tape or a clamp. Vent the duct to the outside. Finish ceiling work, aligning the ceiling hole with the edge of the fan housing (A).
- Join the connectors for the LED light from the fan housing (A) to the grille (B). The grille (B) must be connected before turning on power.
- Attach the grille (B) by pinching the mounting springs and inserting them into the narrow rectangular slots in the fan housing (A). Turn on power and check the fan for abnormal sounds or vibrations.

Troubleshooting
Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
---|---|---|
Fan seems louder than it should be. | CFM is too high for room size. | Ensure CFM rating matches room square footage. |
Damper is damaged or not working properly. | Check damper operation. Call Customer Service if damaged. | |
Duct bend is too close to the fan discharge. | Ensure no sharp bends in the duct within 18 inches of the fan discharge. | |
Fan discharge is reduced to fit a smaller duct. | Use recommended duct size to reduce fan noise. | |
Fan body is not securely attached. | Ensure the fan is securely attached to the ceiling joists. | |
Fan is not clearing humidity from the room. | Insufficient airflow intake in the room. | Ensure a door or window is slightly ajar to allow airflow. The fan cannot exhaust air without sufficient airflow. |
Insufficient CFM. | Ensure the CFM rating matches the room square footage. | |
NOTE: Using a tissue is not a correct method for determining if the fan is operating properly. If the fan clears steam from the room within approximately 15 minutes of completing your shower, then the fan is operating properly. |
