Note: These connection cables are only needed for Compact Stations of version "E" and earlier. Modular control units and Compact Stations from version "F" onwards require the RJ12 station connection cable.

Standard Mounting

Configuration for 1 Workplace

The FAE1 can be configured with various flexible arms and accessories:

• FAE070 Flexible Arm with Clamp Ø50: Length: 1 m / 39.37 in. For mounting on your workbench with the included clamps.
• FAE020 Flexible Arm Ø50: Length: 1 m / 39.37 in. For direct mounting on the workbench (drilling required).
• FAE050 Suction Hose for Modular Tool Holder: For models with article number version xx-SD and newer.
• FAE060 Suction Hose for Compact Stations: For stations with article number version xx-xB and newer.
• FAE010 Flexible Connection Hose Ø50: Length: 1.5 m / 59.05 in. For connecting the fume extractor to the flexible arm or tool holder suction accessories. Avoid unfavorable positions to minimize pressure loss.
• FAE040 Accessory for Tool Holder Suction (with Clamp): For flexible connection hoses of Ø50 mm. Mountable on the workbench with clamps. Supports up to 4 tool holders.
• FAE030 Accessory for Tool Holder Suction: For flexible connection hoses of Ø50 mm. For direct mounting on the workbench (drilling required).

Main Screen

The main screen displays:

• Preset Programs Screen: Shows Filter status, Flow, and Aspiration status (ON). Preset aspiration programs: High, Medium, Low.
• Custom Programs Screen: Allows setting custom flow rates and aspiration levels.

Alternative Mounting Option

Configuration for 2 Workplaces

This configuration is activated by setting the Workbench option in the FAE1 main menu to "2".

• Uses FAE1 fume extractor with two flexible arms (FAE070 or FAE020) and FAE010 connection hoses.

Note: For this configuration, continuous suction is not available.

Connection: FAE with NAE-, DI-, and Modular Control Units

JBC control units can be connected to the FAE via an RJ12 cable. When connected, the fume extractor automatically starts suction when the soldering tool is in use. Update control units with the latest version from www.jbctools.com/software.html.

Required Software Version for FAE Functionality:

With software versions 8886784 (DDE, HDE) and 8886784 (NAE), the connected fume extractor can be configured and controlled via the "Peripherals" menu (1) of the control unit. DI does not support this functionality.

The control unit recognizes the fume extractor as "FAE_a" (2). The tool that should activate suction must be configured in the main menu via the "Tools" menu item (3).

Connect up to 4 JBC control units to the fume extractor's ports (STATION 1, STATION 2, etc.). Each soldering tool connected to these control units can start and stop the extraction.

Connection: FAE with Compact Stations

Use the USB connection cable and adapter or the RJ12 cable to connect JBC soldering stations to the FAE. Both connections allow automatic activation of suction when tools are in use.

Important: First, connect the Compact Station to the fume extractor, then turn on the fume extractor. Otherwise, the Compact Station cannot control the suction.

Firmware Update of the Fume Extractor

The fume extractor can be updated via the USB-B connection using the JBC Updater software. The software can be downloaded from www.jbctools.com/software.html.

Note: For the update process, the Premium Station Cable (RJ12) must be disconnected. If a station is connected to the RJ12 port, the update process will not start.

Counters Menu:

• 1 Total
• 2 Partial
• Back

Total Counters: Plugged hrs, Idle hrs, Work area hrs, Stand hrs, Work area cycles.

Partial Counters: Similar to Total Counters, with a Reset option.

Note: "Stand hrs" (tool holder hours) is not available in the 2-workplace configuration.

Activation of the Fume Extractor

When the fume extractor is switched on, the display shows a status similar to the following, with the filter saturation indicator being green if the carbon filter life is more than 20%.

Filter Status Indicators:

• Green: Filter OK
• Yellow: ≤ 20% carbon filter life remaining or nearing saturation
• Red: End of carbon filter life or filter saturated

If the display shows STOP#4, turn off the fume extractor, remove the cover, re-seat it, and secure it with the quick-release levers.

STOP #4: Cover opened or badly closed. Double check the cover.

Information on soldering station troubleshooting is available on the website www.jbctools.com under Support > Troubleshooting.

Parameters

Important: Turn off the soldering stations connected to the fume extractor before changing parameters.

Station Parameters:

• Continuous Operation: Activate/deactivate. When activated, operation is controlled by the main switch. Default is OFF.
• Tone: Activate/deactivate keypad tone. Default is ON.
• PIN: Activate/deactivate PIN request for parameter changes. Default is ON.
• Change PIN: Change the default security code. The default PIN is 0105.
• Workplace: Select operating mode for 1 or 2 workplaces (see "Menu Interface" chapter).

Port Parameters:

• Program: Set suction strength. Choose between preset (High, Medium, Low) or custom programs. Custom programs allow up to nine suction levels. Default is Medium.
• Shut-off Delay / Work Area: Duration the extractor maintains suction at the workplace after tool placement. Adjustable from 0-300 seconds. Default is 5 seconds.
• Shut-off Delay / Stand: Duration the extractor maintains suction at the stand after tool placement. Adjustable from 0-999 seconds. Default is 60 seconds.
• Pedal/Activation: Set pedal mode: "pressed" (suction active while pressed) or "released" (press once to activate, press again to stop). Default is "pressed".
• Pedal/Operation Mode: If "Activation" is set to "pressed", "Operation Mode" can be changed to "released". In this mode, suction remains active until the pedal is tapped again. Default is "Pressed".

Filter

Parameters:

• Carbon Life: Remaining activated carbon life in %. A value of 0% triggers STOP#1, indicating filter replacement is needed.
• Saturation: Saturation level of HEPA and carbon filter set in %. 100% saturation triggers STOP#2, indicating filter replacement is needed.
• Reset Carbon Filter Life: Perform after replacing HEPA and carbon filter set. The counter starts when the filter is first recognized. After this procedure, carbon life is 100%.

Suction Control

Suction can be controlled via the pedal connection using Pedal P405 or Pedal P005.

Fume Extractor Configuration

Parameters, features, and performance vary based on the fume extractor configuration.

Filter Replacement

The unit indicates on the display and via the LED indicator (3) when filters need replacement.

• To replace filters, remove the cover (1) by opening the side quick-release levers (2).
• If the LED indicator (3) remains red after replacing the pre-filter (4), the compact filter (5) is saturated and must also be replaced.
• After replacing the compact filter (5), the carbon filter counter must be reset (Main Menu: Filter Set > Reset Carbon).
• The compact filter has a maximum shelf life of 1 year after opening the packaging.
• If the compact filter is replaced while the fume extractor is on, the device will start an automatic filter detection after the cover is replaced, activating suction for a few seconds.

Note: The compact filter has a specific orientation. Ensure the filter ribs align with the corresponding slots in the housing.

Connect the filter hose to the quick coupling on the housing.

Adjusting the Quick-Release Levers

To ensure filter tightness, the locking force between the housing and cover can be adjusted by turning the knurled nut of the quick-release lever.

• Turn the knurled nut clockwise to loosen and counter-clockwise to tighten.

Replacement Filters

The following filters are available as spare parts for the FAE1:

• FAE1100 Filter: With HEPA H13 for FAE1. Art. No. FAE1-100. Includes FAE1110 Pre-filter (M5, EN 779, medium efficiency) and Compact Filter (Activated carbon and particle filter HEPA H13, EN 1822).
• FAE1200 Filter: With HEPA H14 for FAE1. Art. No. FAE1-200. Includes FAE1110 Pre-filter (M5, EN 779, medium efficiency) and Compact Filter (Activated carbon and particle filter HEPA H14, EN 1822).
• FAE1110 Pre-filter: For FAE1. Art. No. FAE1-110. (M5, EN 779, medium efficiency).

Safety Instructions

Follow the safety guidelines to avoid electric shock, injury, fire, or explosion.

• The device is designed only for filtering soldering fumes.
• Do not use the device for filtering flammable, explosive, or corrosive gases. Improper use can cause a fire.
• Connect the power cable only to approved outlets. Check for proper grounding before use. To unplug, pull the plug, not the cable.
• Do not tamper with live parts.
• Do not leave the powered-on device unattended.
• Do not cover the ventilation grilles. Heat can ignite flammable products.
• This device can be used by children over eight years old and persons with reduced capabilities or lack of experience, provided they are supervised or trained in its use and understand the associated risks.
• Maintenance must not be carried out by unsupervised children.
• Keep the workspace clean and tidy. When handling dirty filters or pre-filters, wear a suitable protective mask, safety glasses, and gloves.
• Do not use the device without filters.
• Do not clean or reuse saturated filters.
• Avoid blowing off filters or dirty parts of the device; if necessary, vacuum them.
• Avoid releasing particles when handling the filter.
• Dispose of saturated filters according to the filtered pollutant and applicable local regulations. Classification according to the European Waste Catalogue: 15 02: Absorbent and filtering materials, wiping cloths and protective clothing. 15 02 02: Absorbent and filtering materials (including oil filters n.e.c.), wiping cloths and protective clothing contaminated by hazardous substances. 15 02 03: Absorbent and filtering materials, wiping cloths and protective clothing.
• If filter replacement recommendations are not followed, the maximum particle and gas concentration permitted in the respective country may be exceeded.
