Understanding LED Tube Ballast Compatibility
This document provides essential information for ensuring the compatibility of GE Lighting LED tubes with various ballast types. Understanding ballast compatibility is crucial for a successful transition to energy-efficient LED lighting solutions.
Types of LED Tubes and Ballast Compatibility
GE Lighting offers several types of LED tubes, each with specific compatibility requirements:
- Type A LED Tube (Standard): Designed to work with existing electronic instant-start or programmed start ballasts.
- Type A LED Tube (Universal): Compatible with electronic instant-start, electronic programmed start ballasts, and older magnetic ballasts.
- Type A/B LED Tube (Hybrid): Can function with existing ballasts or be used in a ballast bypass configuration (Type B), directly wired to line voltage.
Identifying Your LED Tube
LED tubes are identified by their diameter, indicated by a "T" followed by a number representing eighths of an inch (e.g., T8 is 1-inch diameter). Further identification can be found on the tube label or package, including the Lamp Description, Product Code (PC), or Package Description.
Ballast Compatibility Tables
Detailed compatibility tables are provided for various LED tube types (T5, T8, T12, T9) and ballast types. These tables list manufacturers, model information, and compatibility status, helping users select the correct LED tubes for their existing fixtures.
