This document serves as the user guide for Microchip's SmartPower tool, integrated within the Libero SoC Design Suite v2025.1. SmartPower is an advanced power-analysis tool designed to help engineers visualize, analyze, and optimize power consumption in Microchip System-on-Chip (SoC) Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs).
The tool offers a detailed and accurate method for analyzing designs, from high-level summaries down to specific functions within the design, including gates, nets, I/Os, memories, clock domains, blocks, and power supply rails. Users can explore the hierarchy of block instances and specific instances, organizing the data to understand the power consumption of individual components.
SmartPower supports analysis by various functional modes such as Active, Flash*Freeze, Shutdown, Sleep, or Static, and allows for the creation of custom modes for 'what-if' scenario testing. It also enables the creation of test scenario profiles to understand average power consumption across combinations of operational modes.
The guide details how SmartPower generates hierarchical reports for easy evaluation, helping users pinpoint power consumption sources and implement reductions. It supports the Value-Change Dump (VCD) format, specified by IEEE 1364, for generating switching activity information from simulators like ModelSim, facilitating the evaluation of average and peak power consumption.
The tool is compatible with Microchip's SmartFusion® 2, IGLOO® 2, RTG4™, PolarFire®, and PolarFire SoC devices.
