Vector VN5610A/VN5640: High-Performance Automotive Ethernet/CAN USB Network Interface
Overview
The VN5610A/VN5640 is a compact yet highly functional interface that provides PC access to Ethernet and CAN (FD) networks via USB. These interfaces offer versatile applications, including Ethernet monitoring, frame and load generation, and synchronized tracing of Ethernet frames with other bus systems. The VN5640, with its numerous Ethernet channels, serves as a powerful platform for diverse analysis, simulation, and complex testing within automotive Ethernet networks.
Key Features
- Independent Ethernet channels supporting IEEE 100BASE-T1 (BroadR-Reach) and 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX/1000BASE-T. The VN5610A has two channels, while the VN5640 has up to sixteen.
- The VN5640 offers up to twelve independent Ethernet channels supporting IEEE 100BASE-T1 (with up to six supporting 1000BASE-T1 as an option), plus four channels for 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX/1000BASE-T.
- Two high-speed CAN channels supporting CAN FD.
- Facilitates Ethernet monitoring between two nodes.
- Supports adding up to 10 interfaces for digital output (e.g., DoIP activation line) and digital input.
- Enables various analysis methods for networks with multiple nodes (VN5640).
- Provides convenient diagnostics over IP when used with the DoIP activation line.
- Optimizes bus simulation for remaining channels using an integrated Layer 2 switch (VN5640).
- Features low-jitter, full-bandwidth load generation capabilities.
- Supports standalone mode for continuous operation.
- Connects to PCs via USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 (VN5640), with the VN5610A powered by USB bus power for accurate timestamping.
- Delivers optimal performance when used with CANoe.Ethernet and CANalyzer.Ethernet.
- Enables synchronization between multiple devices and other bus systems like CAN, LIN, FlexRay, and MOST.
- Supports high-speed flashing with Vector's vFlash.
- Offers open interfaces via XL driver libraries for compatibility with third-party tools (CAN and Ethernet).
- Features FPGA hardware architecture for high flexibility.
- Robust housing designed for automotive and industrial environments, supporting a wide range of supply voltages and temperatures.
- Allows access to AFDX® protocols, commonly used in the aerospace industry, when used with CANoe.AFDX or CANalyzer.AFDX (VN5610A).
Applications
- Remaining Bus Simulation: Independent channels for Ethernet and CAN allow simultaneous operation of remaining bus simulation using CANoe.Ethernet or CANalyzer.Ethernet.
- Media Converter: Enables data link between 100BASE-T1 (BroadR-Reach) and 100BASE-TX/1000BASE-T physical layers. The VN5640 option also supports data links between 1000BASE-T1 and 1000BASE-T.
- Direct Access: Allows individual access to each channel, useful for vehicle diagnostics on multiple identical systems in a test bench or for reprogramming test ECUs.
- Ethernet Monitoring: Provides precise timestamped monitoring between two nodes, supporting input/output and IP-based diagnostics monitoring.
