Is Your HVAC System Ready for an Upgrade?
Transitioning to a lower global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant, like R-32, is a smart choice for your home's comfort and the environment. The U.S. AIM Act is phasing down Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), encouraging the use of lower GWP alternative refrigerants.
Benefits of Goodman R-32 Products:
- Low GWP: R-32 has a lower GWP than previous refrigerants and is a significant advancement in refrigerant technology.
- Ease of Access: R-32 is readily available, ensuring a smooth upgrade process.
- Proven Performance: Goodman's new R-32 products deliver optimal performance, capacity, and efficiency.
When to Repair or Replace?
Repairing older systems may become increasingly expensive due to refrigerant phase-outs and the potential difficulty in finding replacement parts. Incompatibility between older refrigerants (like R-410A) and newer systems, or vice versa, can also lead to performance issues.
Whether you need a full system upgrade or a smaller update, your Goodman contractor will guide you in making the best decision for your comfort needs.

How a Central Gas Furnace Works
A central gas heating system warms cooler air through a cycle involving the furnace's burner, a heat exchanger, and a blower fan.
- Burning gas generates heat in the burner.
- Heat passes through the heat exchanger, making it hot.
- Air from the home's ductwork is blown over the heat exchanger, warming the air.
- The furnace's blower forces the heated air into the supply ductwork, distributing it throughout the home.
Key Components:
- Temperature Control: Regulated by the furnace control board, it initiates the heating process when the thermostat calls for heat.
- Draft Induced Fan: Draws air into the burner assembly and exhausts combustion gases outside.
- Gas Burners: Deliver and burn fuel when the thermostat calls for heat.
- Ignition Switch: Establishes the flame that heats the heat exchanger.
- Heat Exchanger: Transfers heat from combusting gas to the indoor air.
- Blower Fan: Circulates conditioned air throughout the home via ductwork, with some models offering variable speeds for improved efficiency.
Types of Gas Furnaces:
- Non-condensing furnaces: Vent exhaust gases directly outside.
- Condensing furnaces: Use a second heat exchanger to capture more heat from exhaust gases for higher efficiency.
- Modulating gas furnace: Continuously adjusts fuel burn to maintain precise thermostat settings, minimizing temperature fluctuations.
