This manual provides instructions for operating your Samsung HT-X50 DVD Home Theater System.

Rear Panel

1. 5.1 Channel Speaker Output Connector, 2. Video Output Connector (connect to TV VIDEO IN), 3. Component Video Output Connector (connect to TV Component Video Inputs), 4. External Digital Optical Input Connector, 5. FM 75Ω COAXIAL Jack, 6. Cooling Fan, 7. TX Card Connection (WIRELESS), 8. AUX IN 2 Connectors, 9. HDMI Output Jack.

Connections

Connecting the Speakers

Positioning: Front speakers at 45° inward, tweeters at ear level. Center speaker at ear level. Rear speakers behind listening position, about 60-90cm above ear, facing slightly down. Subwoofer position is flexible.

Listening Position: 2.5 to 3 times the TV screen size away from the TV.

Speaker Wire Connection: Press and hold terminal tab, insert speaker cord, release finger. Ensure correct polarity (+/-).

Connecting the Optional Wireless Receiving Amplifier

Requires purchase of wireless receiving module (SWA-3000) and TX card. Connect front, center, subwoofer to main unit. Insert TX card into main unit. Connect rear speakers to wireless receiver module. Power on wireless receiver.

Resetting the Wireless Receiving Module: If communication fails, reset the system by turning off the main unit, holding the REMAIN button for 5 seconds, then pressing the RESET button on the receiver module with a ballpoint pen, and finally turning the main unit back on.

Connecting the Video Out to your TV

Three methods:

  1. HDMI (Best Quality): Connect HDMI OUT on the unit to HDMI IN on the TV.
  2. Component Video (Better Quality): Connect Component Video Output (Pr, Pb, Y) to Component Video Input on the TV.
  3. Composite Video (Good Quality): Connect VIDEO OUT to VIDEO IN on the TV using the supplied cable.

Ensure TV input source matches the unit's output.

HDMI Function

Resolution Selection: In Stop mode, press and hold the SD/HD button to select 480p, 720p, or 1080i. Ensure TV supports the selected resolution.

Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC): Control the Home Theater with your Samsung TV remote via HDMI. Requires Anynet+ compatible TV. Set Anynet+ to on the TV. You can choose to listen to audio via TV speakers () or Home Theater speakers ().

Connecting Audio from External Components

AUX1 (Front Panel): Connect external analog component/iPod MP3 to AUX IN 1. Select AUX1 input using the AUX or FUNCTION button.

AUX2 (Rear Panel): Connect external analog component (e.g., VCR) to AUX IN 2. Select AUX2 input.

OPTICAL (Rear Panel): Connect digital component (e.g., Set-Top Box) to Digital Input (OPTICAL). Select DIGITAL IN input.

Connecting the FM Antenna

Connect the supplied FM antenna to the FM 75Ω COAXIAL Jack. Position for best reception.

Cooling Fan

Supplies cool air to prevent overheating. Ensure ventilation holes are not obstructed.

Operation

Before Using Your Home Theater

To operate your Samsung TV and Home Theater with the HT-X50 remote:

  1. Plug in the power cord.
  2. Set the remote to TV mode by pressing the TV button.
  3. Turn on the TV using the POWER button.
  4. Select VIDEO mode on the TV using the TV/VIDEO button.
  5. Switch the remote to DVD RECEIVER mode by pressing the DVD RECEIVER button.
  6. Enable DVD/CD playback by pressing the FUNCTION button on the main unit or the DVD button on the remote.

Disc Playback

1. Press OPEN/CLOSE to open the disc tray.

2. Load a disc with the label facing up.

3. Press DISC SKIP to rotate the carousel for multiple discs.

4. Press OPEN/CLOSE to close the tray. Playback starts automatically.

To Stop: Press STOP. Pressing PLAY/PAUSE resumes from the stop position (DVDs only). Pressing STOP twice and then PLAY/PAUSE restarts from the beginning.

To Pause: Press PLAY/PAUSE. Press again to resume.

Avoid fingerprints on discs.

Selecting a Disc in the Disc Changer

Use DIRECT PLAY buttons (1-5) or DISC SKIP on the remote to select a disc.

MP3/WMA-CD Playback

Place MP3/WMA disc. Use cursor buttons to select album/track. Press ENTER. WMA-DRM files are not supported.

JPEG File Playback

Place JPEG disc. Playback starts automatically, displaying images for 5 seconds each.

Slide Mode: Press SLIDE MODE to cycle through slideshow options (1~5, RANDOM, NONE). Use ►►►►►► to skip slides.

Digest Function: Press DIGEST during playback to view 9 images at once. Use cursor buttons to select an image.

Rotate/Flip Function: Use cursor buttons during playback to rotate or flip images.

DivX Playback

Skip Forward/Back: Use , buttons.

Fast Playback: Use or buttons.

5 Minute Skip: Use Cursor buttons to skip forward or backward by 5 minutes.

Zoom Function: Press ZOOM button. Use cursor buttons to select zoom area. Supports ZOOM X1.5, X2, X3.

Subtitle Display: Press SUBTITLE button to toggle subtitles on/off. Select subtitle language if multiple are available.

Audio Display: Press AUDIO button to toggle audio tracks.

Using the Playback Function

Displaying Disc Information: Press INFO button to view disc details.

Checking the Remaining Time: Press REMAIN button to view elapsed/remaining time for title/chapter.

Fast Playback: Use or buttons for faster playback.

Slow Playback: Use SLOW button for slow motion playback (no sound).

Skipping Scenes/Songs: Use , buttons to skip to the next/previous chapter or track.

Repeat Playback: Press REPEAT button to cycle through repeat modes (CHAPTER, TITLE, TRACK, GROUP, DISC, RANDOM, OFF).

To Select Repeat Mode via Disc Info: Press INFO twice, navigate to REPEAT PLAYBACK, select mode, press ENTER.

A-B Repeat Playback: Designate a section of a DVD to play repeatedly. Press INFO twice, navigate to REPEAT PLAYBACK, select A, press ENTER at start, press ENTER at end.

Step Function: Press STEP button to advance frame by frame.

Angle Function: Press INFO, navigate to ANGLE, select desired angle.

Zoom (Screen Enlarge) Function: Press ZOOM, use cursor to select area, press ENTER.

EZ VIEW Function: Removes black bars from widescreen movies. Press EZ VIEW to toggle On/Off.

Bonus Group: Access bonus content on DVD-Audio discs using a 4-digit key number.

Navigating Pages: Use cursor buttons on DVD-Audio discs with still images.

Audio Language Selection: Press INFO twice, navigate to AUDIO, select language.

Subtitle Language Selection: Press INFO twice, navigate to SUBTITLE, select subtitle.

Moving Directly to a Scene/Song: Use cursor buttons or numeric buttons to select title/track/chapter/time.

Using the Disc Menu: In Stop mode, press MENU, navigate to DISC MENU, select item, press ENTER.

Using the Title Menu: In Stop mode, press MENU, navigate to Title Menu, press ENTER.

Playing Media Files using the USB HOST Feature

Connect USB device to the front USB port. Select USB mode using FUNCTION or USB button. Playback starts from the USB MENU. Safe USB Removal: Press STOP twice, then disconnect USB cable.

Supported Devices: USB Mass Storage v1.0, MP3 Players, Digital Cameras, USB HDDs/Flash Drives (USB2.0/1.1), USB Card Readers. NTFS file system is not supported.

Supported Formats: JPG, MP3, WMA, WMV, DivX.

Setup

Setting the Language

In Stop mode, press MENU, navigate to Setup > LANGUAGE > OSD LANGUAGE. Select desired language.

Setting TV Screen Type

In Stop mode, press MENU, navigate to Setup > TV DISPLAY. Select 4:3LB, 4:3PS, or WIDE/HDTV based on your TV.

Setting Parental Controls (Rating Level)

In Stop mode, press MENU, navigate to Setup > PARENTAL. Select rating level and enter password (default: 7890).

Setting the Password

In Stop mode, press MENU, navigate to Setup > PASSWORD. Enter old password, new password, confirm new password.

Setting the Wallpaper

During playback, press PLAY/PAUSE when an image is displayed, then press LOGO. The unit restarts with the selected image as wallpaper. Up to 3 wallpapers can be set.

To Select Wallpaper: In Stop mode, press MENU, navigate to Setup > LOGO. Select USER 1, 2, or 3.

DVD Playback Mode

To play DVD-Video content on a DVD-Audio disc, set DVD TYPE to DVD VIDEO. Default is DVD AUDIO.

DivX (R) registration

Register your player at www.divx.com/vod.

Setting the Speaker Mode

In Stop mode, press MENU, navigate to Audio > SPEAKER SETUP. Select speaker configuration (SMALL/NONE).

Setting the Delay Time

In Stop mode, press MENU, navigate to Audio > DELAY TIME. Select speaker and adjust delay time (0-15mSEC for Center, 0-15mSEC for Rear).

Setting the Test Tone

In Stop mode, press MENU, navigate to Audio > TEST TONE. Test tone plays for each speaker. Can also be activated directly via TEST TONE button on remote.

Setting the Audio

In Stop mode, press MENU, navigate to Audio > SOUND EDIT. Adjust speaker volume and balance.

Setting the DRC (Dynamic Range Compression)

In Stop mode, press MENU, navigate to Audio > DRC. Adjust compression level for quieter playback.

Setting the AV SYNC

In Stop mode, press MENU, navigate to Audio > AV-SYNC. Adjust audio delay to match video for digital TVs.

Setting the HDMI Audio

In Stop mode, press MENU, navigate to Audio > HDMI AUDIO. Toggle audio output via HDMI (ON for TV speakers, OFF for Home Theater speakers).

Sound Field (DSP)/EQ Function

Press DSP/EQ button to select sound modes (ROCK, POP, CLASSIC, STUDIO, CLUB, HALL, MOVIE, CHURCH, PASS). Available in STEREO mode only.

Dolby Pro Logic II Mode

Press PL II MODE button to select audio mode (MUSIC, CINEMA, PRO LOGIC, MATRIX, STEREO).

Dolby Pro Logic II Effect

In MUSIC mode, press PL II EFFECT to adjust PANORAMA, C-WIDTH, DIMENS for enhanced surround effects.

Miscellaneous

Listening to Radio

Press TUNER button to select FM band. Tune using Automatic Tuning ( , buttons) or Manual Tuning ( , buttons).

Presetting Stations: Tune to a station, press TUNER MEMORY, select preset number, press TUNER MEMORY again.

Convenient Functions

Sleep Timer Function: Press SLEEP button to set auto-off time (10-150 minutes or OFF).

Adjusting Display Brightness: Press DIMMER button to adjust display brightness.

Mute Function: Press MUTE button to silence audio. Press again to restore.

Using Headphones: Connect headphones to the Headphone jack for private listening.

Operating a TV with the Remote Control

Set remote to TV mode (TV button). Hold POWER, enter TV brand code. Point remote at TV and press POWER. If TV turns off, setting is complete. A list of TV brand codes is provided.

Troubleshooting

Refer to the troubleshooting chart for common issues like disc tray not opening, playback not starting, no sound, sound from few speakers, no Dolby Digital 5.1, remote control issues, menu screen problems, aspect ratio issues, and unit not working. Solutions include checking connections, power, disc condition, settings, and performing a reset.

Cautions on Handling and Storing Discs

Handle discs carefully to avoid scratches. Store discs in a clean, ventilated area, away from direct sunlight. Clean discs gently from the inside out with a mild detergent and soft cloth.

A list of language codes is provided for setting Disc Audio, Subtitle, and Disc Menu languages.

Lists compatible Digital Cameras, USB Flash Discs, MP3 Players, and USB External HDDs.
