Where to Place Your Outdoor Wall Lights
Proper placement ensures optimal illumination and sensor function.
Single Light Placement: If installing one light next to an entryway or garage door, position it at 1/3 the height of the door. For example, on an 80-inch tall door, the light should be approximately 26.7 inches from the floor.
Dual Light Placement: If installing lights on both sides of the door, position each light at 1/4 the height of the door. For an 80-inch door, this would be approximately 20 inches from the floor.
Illumination Height: Lights should be placed 66 inches from the floor or ground to effectively illuminate the lock and handle area.
Edge Clearance: Position lights 6 inches from the edge of the door.
Single Light Orientation: If using only one light, place it on the side of the door closest to the door handle.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows a house with two wall lights mounted on either side of the front door. Key dimensions provided are: Fixture Height: 12.8 inches; Door Height: 80 inches; Recommended Fixture Height from Ground: 60 inches. The diagram also shows the 80" door height and a calculation for fixture height (80" door x 0.75 = 60" height for each fixture), implying a 1/4 placement ratio.
Helpful Tip: This fixture is equipped with a dusk-to-dawn sensor. Ensure no objects, such as eaves or overhangs, obstruct the sensor, as this could cause the light to remain on continuously.
Features and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Dusk-to-Dawn Sensor
Yes, the fixture features an intelligent dusk-to-dawn sensor. It automatically turns the light ON when ambient light levels fall below 20 LUX and OFF when brightness exceeds 90 LUX. This provides energy savings and eliminates the need for manual operation.
Troubleshooting: Lamp Not Turning On
If the lamp does not turn on during installation, it is likely due to the sensor's natural deactivation during daylight hours. To test functionality, cover the sensor with your hand or a cloth after turning on the power switch. If the lamp illuminates, the sensor is working correctly, and the issue is related to the automatic day/night cycle.
Disabling the Dusk-to-Dawn Functionality
If you prefer manual control, the fixture includes a convenient rubber cap. Simply slide this cap over the sensor to disable the dusk-to-dawn feature.
