Introduction

The Control4® Lux Wired Keypad is intended for use in a Control4 system. It installs in standard and shallow US wall boxes and it is compatible with the Control4 Bus Ethernet Gateway V2. Communication to the Control4 system is via RS-485 protocol and wiring. For RS-485 wiring topologies, refer to the Keypad Bus Wiring Guide (ctrl4.co/buswiring).

Mounting Plate Required for Install

The Control4 Lux Wired Keypad requires a faceplate and mounting plate designed to fit your install (1 gang, 2 gang, etc) and are required before you install the device. Part numbers for faceplates and plates:

Warnings and Considerations

✔️ IMPORTANT! Do NOT use a power screwdriver to install this device. If you do, you may overtighten the screws and strip them. Also, overtightening the screws may interfere with proper button operation.
✔️ IMPORTANT! This is an electronic device with intricate components. Handle and install with care!

Installation Instructions

Caution! When wiring the keypad, make sure that either:

The Bus Power Supply is powered off.
OR -
The pluggable connector is disconnected from the Bus Power Supply.

Using a manual screwdriver, install the mounting plate to the wall box. Do not overtighten the screws. Pull the rest of the wires through the mounting plate.

This step is not required, however you may connect the supplied ground wire lead to the ground wire in the wall box. If you do, then, using the supplied hardware, fasten the ground wire lead to whichever side of the mounting plate that leaves the most space for the lighting device.

TIP: If all of the devices in the wall box are Lux Wired Keypads, you may remove the grounding wire from the mounting plate, because they are grounded via their GND terminal.
Prepare the cable for termination by stripping the outer sheath and individual wires. Then, wire into the pluggable terminal block as shown below.

Fit the wires back into the wall box.
CAUTION: Install buttons after device is installed in the wall box. Pushing the device into the wall box with buttons installed may damage the device.
Insert the device into the mounting plate and fasten it with screws. Overtightening can warp the device, causing mechanical malfunction and difficulty mounting the buttons and faceplate.
Install the temporary buttons. Start at the bottom and work your way up. Each button slot on the device has a pair of pegs on each side. Align the button's lower tabs to the device's lower pegs. Then, snap the button onto the device.
TIP: This device ships with temporary buttons for basic operation until finished. Engraved buttons can be ordered. To remove the temporary buttons and install the engraved buttons, see the Control4 Lux Button Installation Guide (ctrl4.co/lux-butn-ig). Blank unengraved buttons in all colors are also available.
Install the Control4 faceplate following the instructions in the Control4 Lux Faceplate Installation Guide (ctrl4.co/lux-fp-ig).

Operation and configuration

On initial power up, all status LEDs on the keypad will illuminate blue, indicating that the device has power. Until the keypad has been configured into a Control4 system, it will not control any loads. To set up this keypad for use with a Control4 system, refer to the Composer Pro User Guide (ctrl4.co/cpro-ug).

Button tap sequences

The button tap sequences are defined in the table below. Button tap sequences that require a single button should use the top button. For example, the factory reset sequence is 9 taps on the top, then, 4 on the bottom, and then, 9 on the top.

Troubleshooting

If the LEDs do not light up indicating that the keypad is receiving power:

Ensure that the Bus Power Supply is powered on.
Ensure that the Bus Ethernet Gateway is powered on and connected.
Check for proper wiring (see "Installation instructions" above).
Ensure that the Control4 system is running OS 3.4.3 or greater.

LED status information

— Flashing LED: Indicates normal operation or activity.

— Solid LED: Indicates a fault condition.

Care and cleaning

Do not paint the keypad or its wall plate.
Do not use any chemical cleaners to clean the keypad.
Clean surface of the keypad with a soft damp cloth as needed.
