Product Overview (Fig. 1)

The steam generator iron consists of the following parts:

Preparing for Use

Type of Water to Use

This appliance is designed for tap water. For areas with hard water, distilled or demineralized water (or a 50% mix) is recommended to prolong the appliance's lifetime. Warning: Do not use perfumed water, water from tumble dryers, vinegar, starch, descaling agents, ironing aids, or other chemicals, as they can cause spitting, staining, or damage.

Filling the Water Tank

Fill the water tank before each use or when the 'water tank empty' light flashes. You can refill it anytime during use.

  1. Remove the water tank (Fig. 2) and fill it with water up to the MAX indication (Fig. 3).
  2. Reinsert the water tank, fitting the bottom part first.
  3. Push the top part until it locks into place with a 'click' (Fig. 4).

Water Tank Empty Light

When the water tank is nearly empty, the 'water tank empty' light flashes (Fig. 5). Fill the tank and press the steam trigger to reheat. Continue steaming when the 'iron ready' light is continuously lit.

Using the Appliance

OptimalTEMP Technology

Warning: Do not iron non-ironable fabrics.

OptimalTEMP technology allows ironing all ironable fabrics in any order without adjusting temperature or sorting garments. The hot soleplate can be safely rested directly on the ironing board (Fig. 6). Fabrics with symbols like those in Fig. 7 are ironable (e.g., linen, cotton, polyester, silk, wool, viscose, rayon). Fabrics with symbols like those in Fig. 8 are not ironable (e.g., synthetics like Spandex, elastane, polyolefins; prints on garments are also not ironable).

Ironing

  1. Place the steam generator on a stable, even surface. (Note: Use a stable ironing board for safety.)
  2. Ensure the water tank is filled (see 'Filling the Water Tank').
  3. Plug the mains cord into an earthed socket and press the on/off button. Wait for the 'iron ready' light to be continuously lit (Fig. 9), approximately 2 minutes.
  4. Remove the steam supply hose from its compartment.
  5. Press the carry lock release button to unlock the iron from the iron platform (Fig. 10).
  6. Press and hold the steam trigger to start ironing (Fig. 11). (Note: For first use, hold for up to 30 seconds. Longer if stored.)
  7. For best results, perform final strokes without steam.

MAX Setting

For faster ironing and more steam:

  1. Press and hold the on/off button for 5 seconds until the light turns white.
  2. The appliance returns to normal steam mode automatically after 15 minutes for energy saving.
  3. To switch back to normal steam mode, press and hold the on/off button for 2 seconds until the light turns blue again.

Steam Boost Function

For difficult creases:

Vertical Ironing

Warning: Hot steam is emitted. Never iron clothes on a person (Fig. 12). Do not direct steam at yourself or others.

Use the steam iron vertically to remove wrinkles from hanging fabrics. Hold the iron vertically, press the steam trigger, lightly touch the garment with the soleplate, and move the iron up and down (Fig. 13).

Safe Rest

While rearranging your garment, you can rest the iron on the iron platform or horizontally on the ironing board (Fig. 6). The OptimalTEMP technology ensures the soleplate will not damage the ironing board cover.

Energy Saving

ECO Mode

Use ECO mode (reduced steam) to save energy without compromising ironing results.

Auto-Shut Off

The appliance switches off automatically after 10 minutes of inactivity to save energy. The auto-off light on the on/off button flashes. Press the on/off button to reactivate. Warning: Never leave the appliance unattended when connected to the mains. Always unplug after use.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Descaling the Appliance

It is important to use the EASY DECALC function as soon as the 'EASY DECALC' light flashes (Fig. 15). The light indicates the appliance needs descaling (approx. 1 month or 10 ironing sessions). Perform the EASY DECALC procedure before continuing to iron. Note: Increase frequency if you have hard water.

Warning: To avoid burns, unplug and let the appliance cool for at least two hours before descaling (Fig. 16).

  1. Remove the plug from the wall socket.
  2. Remove the detachable water tank (Fig. 2).
  3. Remove the iron from the iron platform.
  4. Hold and shake the steam generator base (Fig. 17).
  5. Remove the EASY DECALC knob (Fig. 18).
  6. Hold the base over a sink and empty it through the EASY DECALC opening (Fig. 19). (Note: Be mindful of the appliance's weight.)
  7. Reinsert the EASY DECALC knob and turn clockwise to fasten (Fig. 20).
  8. You can use the iron immediately after completing the procedure.

Descaling the Soleplate

If not descaled regularly, scale particles can cause brown stains. Perform this procedure twice for best results.

  1. Ensure the appliance is cool and clean the soleplate with a damp cloth.
  2. Remove the water tank and iron from the iron platform.
  3. Remove the EASY DECALC knob and empty water through the EASY DECALC opening.
  4. Hold the appliance with the EASY DECALC opening facing up and pour 500ml water into it (Fig. 21). (Note: Be mindful of the appliance's weight.)
  5. Keep the opening facing up, reinsert the EASY DECALC knob, and turn clockwise to fasten (Fig. 22).
  6. Place the appliance on a stable surface. Fill the water tank halfway. Switch on the appliance and wait 5 minutes.
  7. Keep the steam trigger pressed while ironing thick cloth back and forth for 3 minutes (Fig. 23). Warning: Hot, dirty water (approx. 100-150 ml) will come out of the soleplate.
  8. Stop cleaning when no more water or only steam comes out of the soleplate.
  9. You can use the appliance immediately, or unplug it after descaling is complete.

Storage

  1. Switch off and unplug the appliance. (Note: Empty the water tank after each use.)
  2. Place the iron on the iron platform and lock it using the carry lock release button (Fig. 24).
  3. Let the appliance cool down completely.
  4. Fold and store the supply hose in the storage compartment (Fig. 25).
  5. Fold and secure the mains cord with the Velcro strip.
  6. The appliance can be carried with one hand by the iron's handle when locked.

Troubleshooting

This section summarizes common problems. For further assistance, visit www.philips.com/support or contact the Consumer Care Center.

ProblemCauseSolution
Dirty water, brown stains, or white flakes from soleplate.Scale buildup inside the appliance due to infrequent descaling. Chemicals or additives added to the water tank.Descale the appliance and soleplate (see 'Cleaning and Maintenance'). Never use chemicals or additives. If used, follow the 'Cleaning and Maintenance' procedure to remove them.
No or little steam.Appliance not heated sufficiently. Not enough water in the tank.Wait until the 'iron ready' light is continuously lit (approx. 2 minutes). Fill the water tank to the MAX indication.
Water leaks from the soleplate.Scale buildup inside the appliance due to infrequent descaling. Steam condenses into water in the hose on first use or after long periods of non-use.Descale the appliance and soleplate (see 'Cleaning and Maintenance'). This condensation is normal; hold the iron away from the garment and press the steam trigger until steam, not water, emerges.
Ironing board cover becomes wet, or water droplets on floor/garment.Board cover not designed for high steam rate.Use a layer of felt material in the board cover to prevent water droplets.
Surface under base wet, or steam/water from EASY DECALC knob.EASY DECALC knob not tightened properly. Worn rubber sealing ring of the EASY DECALC knob.Switch off, wait 2 hours to cool. Unscrew and reattach the knob to ensure it is tightened. Contact an authorized Philips service center for a new EASY DECALC knob.
Iron not heating, amber DECALC light flashes.Appliance reminds you to perform descaling procedure (light flashes after approx. 1 month of use).Perform the descaling procedure as instructed in the 'Descaling the Appliance' section.
