SMB fuse replacement
Power Cable/Fuse Replacement

This document describes how to change the power cord and fuse on a SmartBits chassis when using the Power Cable/Fuse Kit that is shipped with the chassis.
The Power Cable/Fuse Kit contains the power cable and fuses that should be used for international operation (other than U.S.A.) in a SmartBits chassis, in compliance with safety requirements. Each SmartBits chassis is shipped with the default U.S.A. fuses installed.

Fuse Amperage Information

Table 1 lists the fuse amperage specified for each SmartBits chassis.

Chassis Fuse Location

The power supply inlet switch is the main disconnect device and is located on the rear of each SmartBits chassis. It houses the power switch, fuse holder, and a universal 3-wire instrument power cord jack. The power supply connector in each SmartBits chassis has a universal input that accepts 120/240 VAC and requires no selection or adjustment.

Warning: To comply with safety regulations, always make sure that the chassis is powered off and disconnected when removing or inserting fuses.
Figure 1 shows the location of the power supply inlet switch on each SmartBits chassis.

Types of Power Supply Inlet Switches

There are two types of power supply inlet switches used in the SmartBits chassis. One type is used with the SMB-10, SMB-200, SMB-2000, and SMB-600 chassis and is described on page 3. The other type is used in the SMB-6000B and is described on page 4.
The fuse holder is located within the power supply inlet switch (see Figure 2). Use a small, flat-head screwdriver to open the fuse holder for each switch.

5 Remove the fuse and replace it with the international fuse provided in the Power Cable/Fuse Kit.
6 Replace the fuse holder assembly by sliding it back into the power supply inlet switch until it snaps into its proper position.
7 Connect the new international power supply cable provided in the Power Cable/Fuse Kit.
Note: In the fuse holder assembly, there is a small compartment that slides open (see Figure 5). This is used to hold a spare fuse. To open the compartment, use a pointed instrument (such as a pencil) and push the compartment out from either end.
