AMFPD User Guide

Chapter 1: Description

The AMFPD is an amplified, switchable-gain, InGaAs photodetector in an FC/APC Connector. It operates within a wavelength range of 900 to 1700 nm. The device features a double connector (J2) that allows the user to adjust the gain in 10 dB steps. It provides a buffered output capable of driving 50 Ω load impedances up to 5 V. The output signal is accessible via the RF SAM connector.

Chapter 2: Setup

2.1 Input Connector

The input optic signal is connected using an FC/APC connector. Refer to Figure 1 for the top view of the AMFPD.

Figure 1: AMFPD Top View
This image shows the top of the AMFPD circuit board. The input optic signal connects via an FC/APC connector, which is clearly labeled as "Photo diode with FC/APC connector".

2.2 Power Supply

The AMFPD requires a double DC 12V power supply. For connecting the J1 (2.54mm 3-pin connector), please refer to Figure 2.

Figure 2: AMFPD PCB View
This diagram illustrates the AMFPD printed circuit board (PCB) layout. It displays the placement of various components, including the J1 connector (marked with +12V, 0V, and -12V) and the J2 connector. The RF SAM connector is also visible. The recommended power supply is the Globtek GT-51084-12N12.

2.3 Output

The output is connected via an RF SAM female adapter. The device offers a buffered output that can drive a 50 Ω load up to 5V. Refer to Figure 3 for the back view of the AMFPD.

Figure 3: AMFPD Back View
This image displays the rear side of the AMFPD circuit board. Key features highlighted include the "Gain(Av) Adjustment" section, the "+/- 12V Power Supply" input connector (J1), and the "Output" RF SAM connector (P1).

2.4 Gain (Av) Adjustment

The responsivity of a photodiode is defined as the ratio of generated photocurrent (IPD) to the incident light power (P) at a specific wavelength, expressed by the formula: R(λ) = Ipd / P.

The gain (Av) is calculated as: Av = Ipd x Rf.

The terminal J2 connector position determines the gain setting. The following configurations are provided:

  • Rf = 100: J2 connector pin configuration for A2, A1, A0.
  • Rf = 1000: J2 connector pin configuration for A2, A1, A0.
  • Rf = 10000: J2 connector pin configuration for A2, A1, A0.
  • Rf = 100000: J2 connector pin configuration for A2, A1, A0.

Note: Specific jumper placements for each Rf setting are visually represented in the original document diagrams.

Chapter 3: Specifications

Detailed specifications for the AMFPD are provided in this section of the original document.
