Installation Instructions
- Remove the rear light clusters. For PASSAT SAL & EST models, fixings are found behind plastic trim on the side of the cluster. For PASSAT CC models, fixings are internal of the boot.
- Remove the rear bumper. This involves four fixings around each wheel arch, one fixing at each bumper tip, two fixings below each light cluster, and fixings along the lower edge. Note: The PASSAT CC has hidden fixings around the wheel arch.
- Pull each side of the bumper to remove it from its sliders.
- Cut a section from the lower edge of the bumper, as shown in the sketch, and trim to suit.
- Remove the bumper beam. This part is not refitted with the towbar.
- Temporarily lower the exhaust heat shield.
- Remove the tape from the outer face of each chassis member covering the towbar mounting points.
- Locate items A1 into the open ends of each chassis member. Use item D bolts with item H washers to secure them through the mounting points.
- Using item D bolts, attach item A (Towbar) between each side arm (A1).
- Using item E bolts with item G and item F spacer plates, attach item B (Swan Neck) and item C (Socket Plate) to item A.
- Fully tighten all nuts and bolts, ensuring the towbar is rigid and secure.
- Re-fit the exhaust heat shield, rear bumper, and light clusters.
Diagram Description
The main diagram illustrates the towbar assembly (labeled A) with its components. It shows the two handed side arms (A1) that attach to the vehicle chassis. Dimensions are provided, including 115mm and 150mm for overall length, and 40mm x 40mm for specific mounting points. An "INSIDE VIEW" is indicated. Notes
1. Recommended Torque Setting for M12 Grade 10.9 bolts is 10-139 Nm. Refer to overleaf notes for other torque settings.
2. Observe the vehicle's nose load limits and manufacturer's specified trailer/caravan weight limits.
