The Power of IPL
IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light, an FDA-cleared light treatment used in the hair removal industry. It utilizes broad-spectrum polychromatic light pulses that target melanin in hair follicles, rendering them dormant for permanent hair removal.
IPL vs. Laser: Both IPL and laser are effective light treatments targeting melanin. The key difference lies in the light source: IPL uses broadband pulsed light, while laser uses monochromatic coherent light. While laser can be more precise and suitable for more skin tones due to its high power output, it is often recommended for professional settings. IPL offers a versatile at-home solution.

Ulike Patented Sapphire Ice-cooling Technology
IPL treatments can sometimes cause a slight snapping sensation due to heat. Ulike's patented Sapphire ice-touch technology integrates an ice-cooling system with the IPL emission. This provides simultaneous cooling applications, effectively preventing burning and pain during use.
The Ulike Air 3 model enhances this technology, capable of lowering epidermal temperature to 68°F (20°C) and below while emitting high-energy light for up to 20 minutes continuously.

Tips on How to Use the Hair Removal Device
Find the Right Level for You
It is strongly recommended to start with Soft Mode and perform a test patch. Observe your skin's reaction and adjust intensity levels as needed. Higher levels generally lead to faster results.
- Soft Mode: Suitable for delicate areas.
- Body Mode: Suitable for the whole body.
- Power Mode: Fast and powerful treatment.

Choose the Treatment Method
- Auto-Glide Method: Press and hold the treatment button for 2 seconds to activate. Glide the device across the skin; the light will flash automatically. This method is ideal for large areas like arms and legs.
- Spot Method: Short press the treatment button for a single flash. This method is suitable for small areas such as fingers and upper lips.

Follow the Agenda
For optimal results, adhere to the following treatment schedule for 3-4 weeks (approximately 10+ minutes for a complete body treatment):
- Weeks 1 & 2: Treat every other day.
- Weeks 3 & 4: Treat twice per week.
Consistent use will yield noticeable differences.
Why Do I Need to Shave before Using Ulike?
Shaving ensures the IPL treatment targets the hair root effectively, as the light works best when not obstructed by surface hair. Using shaving as the preparation method is crucial because other hair removal methods might affect the hair root, diminishing treatment performance.
If you notice a burning smell during treatment, it's likely due to the IPL light interacting with surface hair stubble or residue.

The Mode Suitable for Skin and Hair Color
Will IPL Hair Removal Work for Me?
Effective IPL hair removal requires a contrast between skin tone and hair color. Individuals with fair skin and dark hair typically achieve the best results, as IPL light is absorbed by melanin to heat and disable hair follicles for long-term reduction.
Hair colors lacking melanin, such as red, white, grey, and light blonde, may not respond as effectively because the follicles do not absorb sufficient light. Conversely, individuals with very dark skin tones may be at risk of burning due to excessive light absorption by melanin, a known limitation of IPL technology.
Consult the chart below to determine suitability:
Hair color | Skin color: White | Skin color: Beige | Skin color: Light brown | Skin color: Medium brown | Skin color: Dark brown | Skin color: Black and darker |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
White/Grey | X | X | X | X | X | X |
Red | X | X | X | X | X | X |
Light blond | X | X | X | X | X | X |
Dark blond/light brown | Regular mode | Regular mode | Regular mode | Soft mode | Power mode | X |
Brown | Regular mode | Power mode | Regular mode | Power mode | Regular mode | Soft mode |
Dark brown | Regular mode | Power mode | Regular mode | Power mode | Regular mode | Soft mode |
Black | Regular mode | Regular mode | Regular mode | Power mode | Power mode | Soft mode |
(Note: 'X' indicates that the treatment is not applicable for this combination.)
