This machine offers excellent results with simplicity, thanks to its intuitive interface allowing you to choose from 13 different beverages and personalize them to your preferences. Each machine undergoes rigorous testing to ensure high quality and correct functioning. This manual provides all necessary information for installation, use, cleaning, and descaling.

Control Panel and Display
The control panel features several buttons for operating the machine:
- Multifunction Keys (1/2): Used to select displayed functions.
- ON/OFF Button (3): Press and hold for a few seconds to turn the machine on or off.
- HOME Button (4): Access the beverage menu.
- CLEAN/SET Button (5): Access the cleaning and settings menu. This button also functions as an ESC key to exit screens.
- START/STOP Button (6): Start or stop beverage dispensing, or initiate/stop displayed procedures.
First Installation
Before initial use, perform a manual rinse cycle. This is also recommended if the machine has not been used for a long time.
- Place a container under the coffee dispensing spout and select "ESPRESSO LUNGO".
- Press the [
] button until the [ ] option is selected, without adding pre-ground coffee. - Press the START/STOP [play/pause icon] button to begin dispensing hot water.
- Empty the container and ensure the hot water spout is installed.
- Place a container under the hot water dispensing spout and select "HOT WATER".
- Press the START/STOP [play/pause icon] button to dispense.
- Empty the container and repeat steps 5-7 until the water tank is empty.
- Refill the water tank to the MAX level. The machine is now ready for use.
Tip: For a more flavorful coffee, it is recommended to prepare 5 cups of coffee initially to allow the machine to auto-adjust.
Water Hardness Measurement
Upon first installation, you must set the water hardness level. Use the provided test strip:
- Immerse the test strip in a glass of water for 1 second. Remove and wait 1 minute.
- Observe the number of red squares that appear.
- Use the [
] and [ ] buttons to select the corresponding water hardness value from the table below, then press [ ] to confirm.

INTENZA+ Water Filter
To limit limescale buildup, installing the INTENZA+ water filter is recommended. This extends the machine's lifespan and maintains coffee aroma. Proper water filtration is crucial for professional coffee preparation. The INTENZA+ filter prevents mineral deposits and improves water quality.
Installing the INTENZA+ Water Filter
- Immerse the INTENZA+ filter vertically in cold water (opening facing up), gently pushing it to release air bubbles.
- Remove the filter from the water. Adjust the base of the filter according to the measured water hardness (A=1-2 squares, B=3 squares, C=4 squares).
- Insert the INTENZA+ filter into the water tank, ensuring it is correctly seated. Refill the water tank and place it back in its compartment.
- Press the CLEAN/SET [settings icon] button, then select "SETTINGS".
- Select "WATER FILTER" and press [
]. - Select "ACTIVATE" and follow the on-screen instructions.
Note: The filter activation can be paused by pressing START/STOP [play/pause icon] and resumed by pressing it again.
Replacing the INTENZA+ Water Filter
When the INTENZA+ water filter is depleted, a warning message will appear.
- To replace or deactivate the filter, press the CLEAN/SET [settings icon] button, then select "SETTINGS".
- Select "WATER FILTER" and press [
]. - Select "REPLACE" to change the filter or "DEACTIVATE" if you do not intend to use a new filter. Press [
] to confirm. - Follow the on-screen instructions to activate the new filter.

Espresso Tray
The Espresso tray is designed to ensure impeccable beverage preparation, especially for traditional Italian espresso with its characteristic cream layer. It allows the use of small espresso cups by ensuring the perfect height for compact and homogeneous cream. To use, lift the Espresso tray from the drip tray grid and insert it into the appropriate slot.
Coffee Dispensing
Dispensing Coffee with Whole Beans
Attention: Use only whole espresso beans. Do not use pre-ground, unroasted, or instant coffee, as this can damage the machine.
Tip: Preheat cups with hot water for hotter coffee.
- Place the espresso tray, then a small cup under the coffee dispensing spout. Adjust the spout height according to the cup size. Press the HOME [home icon] button to access the beverage menu.
- Scroll through the options to find and select your desired coffee.
- Once selected, press the [
] button to dispense two cups simultaneously (excluding Americano). - Press the START/STOP [play/pause icon] button to begin dispensing.
Note: Dispensing can be interrupted at any time by pressing START/STOP [play/pause icon]. For personalized drink settings, refer to the "Personalizing Drinks" chapter.
Dispensing Coffee with Pre-ground Coffee
Use the provided measure to add the correct dose to the pre-ground coffee compartment.
- Open the pre-ground coffee compartment lid and add one level measure of pre-ground coffee.
Attention: Do not add substances other than pre-ground coffee to avoid damaging the machine.
- Place a cup under the coffee dispensing spout and select the desired beverage.
- Press the [
] button as many times as needed to select the coffee.
Note: The "pre-ground coffee" function does not allow dispensing two cups simultaneously or adjusting aroma, which are only available with whole beans.
- Press the START/STOP [play/pause icon] button to dispense the coffee.
For personalized drink settings, refer to the "Personalizing Drinks" chapter.
Note: Dispensing can be interrupted at any time by pressing START/STOP [play/pause icon].
Dispensing Coffee Over Ice
Note: This coffee is prepared at a lower temperature. For optimal results, pour it over ice and interrupt the automatic rinse cycle if it is the first beverage dispensed after powering on.
- Fill a glass halfway with ice cubes (approx. 6 cubes for a standard drink).
- Place the glass under the coffee dispensing spout.
- Select the "OVER ICE" beverage.
Recommendation: Use aroma level 5 or the "boost" function for a more intense coffee.
- Press the START/STOP [play/pause icon] button to start dispensing.
Note: Selecting "coffee boost" or "pre-ground coffee" prevents dispensing into two cups simultaneously. After dispensing a hot beverage or steam, the machine may dispense at a slightly higher temperature. It is recommended to prepare an "over ice" coffee first using the pre-ground function without adding coffee.
Preparation of Coffee and Emulsified Milk Drinks
Attention: Before selecting a coffee or milk-based beverage, ensure the milk carafe is installed and the milk dispensing spout is open. Incorrect installation may cause steam or hot milk to spray.
Filling the Milk Carafe
Note: Before using the milk carafe, clean it thoroughly as described in the "Cleaning the Milk Carafe" chapter.
The milk carafe can be filled before or during use.
- Lift the cover of the milk dispensing unit.
- Pour milk into the carafe, ensuring it is between the MIN and MAX levels indicated on the carafe. Replace the cover.
Inserting the Milk Carafe
If installed, remove the hot water dispensing spout:
- Press the two side buttons to unlock the dispensing spout and lift it slightly.
- Pull the water dispensing spout to remove it.
- Verify that the top part of the carafe is correctly positioned. The transparent tab and graduated lines should face outwards.
- Gently tilt the milk carafe and insert it completely onto the machine's guides.
- Press and turn the carafe downwards until it clicks into place on the drip tray.
Note: Do not force the carafe into place.
Removing the Milk Carafe
Turn the carafe upwards until the tab in the drip tray detaches. Then, remove it.
Dispensing Coffee and Emulsified Milk Drinks
Tip: Use cold milk (approx. 5°C) with at least 3% protein for optimal foam. Whole, semi-skimmed, skimmed, soy, or lactose-free milk can be used.
- Remove the milk dispensing spout to the right until the symbol is visible.
Note: If the milk dispensing spout is not fully extracted, milk may not emulsify correctly.
- Place a cup under the open milk dispensing spout.
- Press the HOME [home icon] button and select the desired beverage from the menu.
- Press the button for the desired beverage.
- Press the START/STOP [play/pause icon] button to begin dispensing the selected beverage.
The machine dispenses a pre-set volume of emulsified milk and coffee. The order of dispensing (coffee first or milk first) depends on the chosen beverage.
For personalized drink settings, refer to the "Personalizing Drinks" chapter.
- After preparing coffee and milk-based drinks, a quick cleaning cycle for the milk circuit can be performed within 10 seconds. This can also be done later via the "CLEAN/SET" [settings icon] menu: press "CLEANING", select "QUICK CLEANING", and press [
]. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Note: Perform the quick cleaning cycle at least once a day. Press START/STOP [play/pause icon] to confirm or the [
Hot Water Dispensing
Attention: The hot water dispensing spout may spray steam and hot water at the beginning of dispensing. Wait for dispensing to finish before removing the spout.
- Insert the hot water dispensing spout.
- Press the HOME [home icon] button, scroll through the screens using the [
] and [ ] buttons, and select "HOT WATER". - Press the "HOT WATER" button, then press START/STOP [play/pause icon] to begin dispensing.
Note: Dispensing can be interrupted at any time by pressing START/STOP [play/pause icon]. For personalized drink settings, refer to the "Personalizing Drinks" chapter.
Personalizing Drinks and Memorizing Settings (MEMO)
This machine allows you to modify drink settings to your preferences and memorize them (MEMO), overwriting previous settings.
Personalizing Drinks
- Press the HOME [home icon] button.
- Select the desired beverage.
- The display shows all adjustable/selectable options. Depending on the beverage type, you can adjust/select:
- Coffee and milk quantity
- Coffee temperature
- Dispensing for two cups at once
- Use of pre-ground coffee
- Aroma intensity (only with whole beans)
- "Coffee boost" function (for coffee over ice only)
- After pressing the "COFFEE" [coffee cup icon] or "MILK" [milk jug icon] buttons, use the [
] and [ ] buttons to adjust the desired quantity. Press [ ] to confirm and return to the previous screen. - Press the "TEMP C" [temperature icon] button repeatedly to change the beverage temperature (low, medium, high).
- Press the [
] button to prepare two cups, or the [ ] button for one cup. The beverage image on the display will indicate the selected number of cups.
Note: This function is not available for milk-based drinks, Americano, or hot water.
- To adjust aroma intensity or select pre-ground coffee, press the [
] button. You can choose from 5 intensity levels. Each press changes the intensity by one degree. The display shows the selected intensity or pre-ground option. - 1. Very light

Note: The pre-ground function only allows dispensing one coffee at a time.
- For coffee over ice, you can select the "coffee boost" [lightning bolt icon] function. The machine will perform a double grind for a more intense flavor.
Note: This function dispenses only one coffee at a time. It cannot be used with pre-ground coffee and does not allow aroma adjustment.
- Once personalized, press START/STOP [play/pause icon] to dispense the drink.
- If any parameter has been modified, the machine will ask if you wish to memorize the recipe as modified after dispensing is complete.
Attention: Newly memorized settings will overwrite previous recipe settings.
Note: There are two options to revert to factory settings for each recipe:
- Manually re-enter the settings indicated in the "Drink Type" section for each beverage and memorize them.
- Restore all settings using the "Default Settings" in the "SETTINGS" menu.
Grind Adjustment
The grind adjustment knob, located in the coffee bean hopper, allows you to set the grind size. The ceramic grinder ensures a perfect and homogeneous grind for every cup, preserving aroma for a consistently perfect taste.
Note: Grind adjustment can only be performed while the machine is grinding whole beans. Taste differences will be noticeable after 2-3 cups.
Attention: To avoid damaging the grinder, do not turn the adjustment knob more than one notch at a time.
- Place a cup under the coffee dispensing spout.
- Open the coffee bean hopper lid.
- Dispense an espresso following the procedure in the "Dispensing Coffee with Whole Beans" chapter.
- While the machine is grinding, press the grind adjustment knob in the bean hopper and turn it one notch at a time, left or right.
- You can choose from 5 different grind degrees. Smaller notches result in stronger, more full-bodied coffee.
Note:
- Coarse grind: Lighter taste, for dark roasts (3-5).
- Fine grind: More intense taste, for light roasts (1-3).
Cleaning and Maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance keep the machine in optimal condition, ensuring excellent coffee, a constant flow, and perfect milk foam. Consult the table below for when and how to clean removable parts.

Cleaning the Milk Carafe
Milk Carafe Cleaning Programs
The machine offers two programs for cleaning the milk carafe: Quick Cleaning and Deep Cleaning. Both can be selected via the CLEAN/SET [settings icon] button, then pressing "CLEANING". The Quick Clean is also offered at the end of milk-based drink dispensing.
- Quick Cleaning Program: Cleans the milk circuit with hot water.
- Deep Cleaning Program: Thoroughly cleans the entire milk circuit using the "Milk Circuit Cleaner" product from Philips.
Cleaning the Milk Carafe with Running Water
The milk dispensing spout has 5 components. All components (except the milk tank) can be washed in a dishwasher.
- Milk tube
- Rubber support
- Pannarello
- Pannarello connector
- Milk dispensing spout housing
Refer to Fig. 4 for component references.
- Remove the milk dispensing unit cover (Fig. 21).
- Press the release buttons on both sides of the upper part of the milk dispensing unit (1) and remove the upper part of the milk tank (2) (Fig. 22).
- Remove the milk dispensing spout from its unit (Fig. 23).
- To disassemble the spout:
- Turn the milk dispensing unit over and hold it firmly. Remove the milk tube from the support (Fig. 24).
- Press the release buttons on the pannarello and remove it from the rubber support (Fig. 25).
- Remove the pannarello connector (Fig. 26).
- Wash all components under running water.
- Once cleaning is complete, reassemble all components by following the same procedure in reverse order.
Cleaning the Brew Group
Attention: Do not wash the brew group in a dishwasher or use dish soap, as this may cause malfunction and affect coffee taste.
Removing the Brew Group
- Turn off the machine and unplug the power cord.
- Remove the drip tray with the coffee grounds container.
- Open the maintenance flap.
- Press the PUSH lever (1) and pull the brew group handle (2) to remove it from the machine.
- Remove the coffee grounds drawer.
Cleaning the Brew Group with Running Water
- Thoroughly clean the coffee outlet duct with the handle of a small spoon or a pointed kitchen tool.
- Rinse the brew group and coffee grounds drawer thoroughly with lukewarm water. Carefully clean the upper filter.
- Allow the brew group to air dry.
Note: Do not dry the brew group with cloths to avoid lint accumulation.
Reinstalling the Brew Group
- Before reinserting the brew group, ensure the two yellow markers on the side align. If not, perform the following: Ensure the lever is in contact with the base of the brew group.
- Ensure the yellow locking hook of the brew group is in the correct position. To position it correctly, push it upwards to its maximum extent. If the hook remains down, it is not correctly positioned.
- Reinsert the coffee grounds drawer.
- Reinsert the brew group into the machine along the side guides until a locking click confirms correct positioning.
Attention: Do not press the PUSH lever.
- Close the maintenance flap.
Cleaning the Brew Group with Tablets for Coffee Oil Removal
Attention: For cleaning, use only Gaggia tablets for coffee oil removal.
- Place a container under the coffee dispensing spout.
- Press the CLEAN/SET [settings icon] button and select "CLEANING".
- Select "BREW GROUP CLEANING" and press [
] then START/STOP [play/pause icon] to start the cleaning procedure. - Follow the on-screen instructions for correct brew group cleaning.
- The procedure lasts approximately 5 minutes. To interrupt or restart it, use the START/STOP [play/pause icon] button.
Lubricating the Brew Group
For optimal machine performance, the brew group must be lubricated. Consult the table for lubrication frequency.

- Turn off the appliance and unplug the power cord.
- Remove the brew group and rinse it with lukewarm water (see "Cleaning the Brew Group with Running Water" chapter).
- Apply a thin layer of the supplied lubricant around the insertion pivot, located at the bottom of the brew group.
- Apply a thin layer of lubricant on the guides, on both sides (see figure).
- Reinstall the brew group (see "Reinstalling the Brew Group" chapter).
Note: The lubricant tube can be used multiple times.
Descaling
Descaling Procedure
Descale the machine whenever required. Use only the Gaggia descaling solution, designed for optimal machine performance. Using other products may damage the machine and leave residue. Failure to descale will invalidate the warranty.
- Press the CLEAN/SET [settings icon] button and select "CLEANING".
- Select "DESCALING" and confirm with [
], then press START/STOP [play/pause icon] to start the procedure. - Remove the drip tray and coffee grounds container, empty them, and replace them.
- Remove and empty the water tank. Then remove the INTENZA+ filter, if present.
- Pour the entire bottle of Gaggia descaling solution into the water tank and add water up to the "CALC CLEAN" level. Replace the tank in the machine.
- Fill the milk carafe halfway with water and insert it into the machine.
- Place a large container (1.5L) under the milk and coffee dispensing spouts.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to start the descaling procedure. This procedure takes about 25 minutes and includes a descaling cycle followed by a rinsing cycle, with regular dispensing.
- Once the descaling cycle is complete, rinse the tank, milk carafe, and water circuit according to the on-screen instructions.
- Reinstall the INTENZA+ filter in the water tank.
Note: The procedure can be paused and resumed at any time by pressing START/STOP [play/pause icon].
Attention: During descaling, the brew group cannot be removed. Wait for the descaling process to finish before removing the brew group.
What to do if the Descaling Procedure is Interrupted
The descaling procedure can be exited by pressing the ON/OFF [power icon] button for a few seconds. If the procedure is interrupted before completion, proceed as follows:
- Empty and thoroughly rinse the water tank.
- Fill the water tank with tap water up to the "CALC CLEAN" level and turn the machine back on. The machine will heat up and perform an automatic rinse cycle.
- Before preparing a beverage, perform a manual rinse cycle as described in the relevant chapter.
Note: If the procedure was not completed, a new descaling procedure should be performed as soon as possible.

Water Filter

Stand-by Time
After selecting "STAND-BY TIME", you can set the timer to one of the following options:
- 15 min.
- 30 min
- 60 min
- 180 min
Unit of Measure
Select "UNITS" to set the unit of measure to "ml" or "ounces".
Water Hardness
After selecting "WATER HARDNESS", follow the on-screen instructions and refer to the "Water Hardness Measurement" chapter.
Coffee Counter
The number of cups dispensed since the machine's first use can be displayed for each beverage. This data cannot be reset.
Touch Sound
To disable touch sounds, select "OFF".
Default Settings
The machine can be reset to factory values. A double confirmation will be required before the procedure is performed.
Error Code Meanings
Certain error codes that may appear on the display are listed below, with their meaning and possible solutions. If the indicated solutions are ineffective and the error code icon remains displayed, or if other error codes appear, contact an authorized service center or local dealers.
