JL Audio MV600/6i Marine Amplifier
600W Full-Range 6-Channel Class D Marine Amplifier with Integrated DSP and NexD2™ Switching Technology
Introduction
Thank you for purchasing a JL Audio amplifier for your marine sound system. This amplifier is designed and manufactured to exacting standards for years of musical enjoyment. For maximum performance, installation by an authorized JL Audio dealer is highly recommended. If you choose to install it yourself, please read this manual thoroughly.
For assistance, contact your authorized JL Audio dealer or the JL Audio Technical Support Department at technical@jlaudio.com/support.
Installation Applications
This amplifier is designed for 12-volt DC, negative-ground electrical systems. Use in vessels with positive ground or voltages other than 12V DC may result in damage and void the warranty. This product is not certified for use in aircraft.
Planning Your Installation
Carefully plan your installation to avoid damaging vessel electrical systems. Consult reliable wiring diagrams and use proper test equipment. If you are uncomfortable with these procedures, enlist the services of an authorized JL Audio dealer.
Safety Considerations
- Install in a dry, well-ventilated location away from factory systems.
- Do not submerge or subject to high-pressure water spray.
- Avoid direct exposure to elements, engine compartments, extreme heat, or hot air.
- Mount vertically with connections pointing downward if possible. Route wiring to direct condensation away from the amplifier.
- Securely mount the amplifier to prevent loosening from jolts or vibrations.
- Check for hidden wiring or systems before drilling.
- Do not run system wiring outside or underneath the vessel.
- Protect all system wires from sharp edges using grommets and loom where appropriate.
- Secure wiring with cable ties or clamps.
Power Connector
The MV600/6i's '+12 VDC' and 'Ground' connections accept up to 4 AWG copper wire. Tinned copper power wire is recommended for marine installations. 4 AWG is the minimum copper wire size.
To connect wires:
- Back out set screws on the connector using supplied hex wrenches.
- Strip 3/8 inch (10 mm) of insulation from each wire end.
- Insert bare wire firmly into the connector receptacle, ensuring no bare wire is exposed.
- Tighten set screws firmly without stripping the heads.
- Plug the connector into the amplifier firmly.
Connections:
- +12 VDC: Run copper wire from the positive (+12V) battery post. For multiple amplifiers, use appropriate gauge wire for combined current draw and install a fused distribution block.
- Fuse/Circuit Breaker: Install an appropriately rated fuse or ignition-protected circuit breaker (sold separately) within 7 inches (18 cm) of the battery post connection or per marine industry standards. Use a 50 A fuse for this amplifier. Do not install the fuse or close the breaker until all connections are secure.
- Ground: Connect to the NEGATIVE battery post or an appropriately equipped DC ground bus bar. All ground connections should be made at the same location.
- Remote: Connect to the source unit's positive (+12V) remote turn-on output. If no dedicated output exists, connect to a +12V switched circuit via a switch.
Input Section
Eight female RCA jacks provide a differential-balanced input section for flexibility and noise rejection. This allows the MV600/6i to accept analog audio signals up to 16 VRMS without a line-output converter.

Cooling Efficiency Considerations
The amplifier's outer shell dissipates heat. For optimal cooling, expose it to ample airflow. Enclosing the amplifier in a poorly ventilated space can cause overheating and performance degradation. If an enclosure is necessary, use a fan for ventilation. Ensure at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) of space above the amplifier for proper cooling. When mounted vertically with connections downward, the amplifier achieves an IPX2 water-resistance rating.
Mounting Considerations
MV amplifiers feature keyhole-style mounting holes for easy installation in confined spaces or vertical mounting. Mounting screws can be pre-installed to allow connections before final securing. Consider amplifier orientation and connection access. Vertical mounting with downward-pointing connections is recommended for IPX2 rating.
Speaker Output Harnesses
Connect speaker output leads to corresponding speaker wires using the provided harnesses with water-resistant connectors.
