Power Requirements
Double Insulation: Tools with double insulation have a polarized plug (one prong wider than the other) that fits only one way into a polarized outlet. If it does not fit, reverse the plug. If it still doesn't fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not alter the plug. This insulation eliminates the need for a grounded third prong or connection.
Extension Cables: Use an extension cable with adequate gauge for the product's power needs. A lower gauge cable can cause voltage drop, power loss, and overheating. Refer to the table below for correct gauge based on length and amperage. When in doubt, use the next higher gauge.
Ampere Capacity | Number of Conductors | Extension gauge (5.9' to 49.2' | higher than 49.2') | |
---|---|---|---|
0 A to 10 A | 3 (one grounded) | 18 AWG(*) | 16 AWG |
10 A to 13 A | 16 AWG | 14 AWG | |
13 A to 15 A | 14 AWG | 12 AWG | |
15 A to 20 A | 8 AWG | 6 AWG |
(*) Safe to use only if extensions have built-in over-current protection. AWG = American Wire Gauge.
Outdoor Use: When operating outdoors, use a Voltek grounded extension cable labeled "For Outdoors Use" to reduce the risk of electric shock.
