Cautions for Safest Use
Installation Location
- Ensure good ventilation; do not cover ventilation holes.
- Place away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.
- Choose a location with minimal humidity, vibration, and dust.
Power Source
- KN200: Use ONLY the included AC adaptor (SY-AD1).
- KN400: Ensure the line voltage selector matches local voltage before connecting. DC power cannot be used.
Handling the Power Cord
- Never touch the power cord or plug with wet hands.
- Do not pull the power cord.
Internal Safety
- Do not permit metal articles to get inside the unit, as this may result in electric shock or damage. Warn children about this risk. If an object enters the unit, disconnect power and contact the dealer.
- Never attempt to remove top or back panels or touch inside parts. High voltage is present. Contact qualified personnel for inspection or fuse replacement.
If Water Gets into the Unit
Disconnect the power cord plug from the outlet and contact the dealer. Avoid placing liquid containers on the unit.
If Operation Seems Abnormal
Immediately turn off the instrument, disconnect the power cord plug, and contact the dealer. Discontinue use to prevent further damage or accidents.
Power Cord Condition
Never use a damaged power cord (scarred, cut, broken, or with bad contact) as it may cause fire or serious electrical shock. Do not forcibly bend the power cord.
Maintenance
- Switch off the instrument after use. Avoid rapid on/off switching.
- To clean, use a clean, damp cloth and polish with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid thinners or petrochemical-based polishes. Wax-based polish may be used on the cabinet.
Symptoms Which Appear to Be Signs of Trouble
The following performance changes may occur but do not indicate trouble:
Sounds and Effects
- Malfunctioning buttons/keys, no sound, limited polyphony, DIGITAL CELESTE issues, CONDUCTOR/AUTO PLAY CHORD/PANEL MEMORY not working, strange highest note for SOLID GUITAR:
- KN200: Turn the ▶️ PLAY button off and then on again. All settings reset to factory defaults.
- KN400: Turn the ? POWER button off. Then, while pressing all three MANUAL PERCUSSION buttons, turn the ? POWER button on. All settings reset to factory defaults.
- Check if MAIN VOLUME is at minimum; adjust it.
- If DEMO button is on, press it to turn off.
- Check BALANCE volumes; they may be set to 0. Adjust using POLY (+) or specific ACCOMP PART buttons.
- Check if local control for a keyboard part is set to 'off'; set to 'on'.
- Note that polyphony may decrease depending on selected sound and settings.
- KN400: DIGITAL CELESTE may not function for DUAL, DUET, TRIO sounds.
- Check MIDI receive mode; set to single mode if necessary.
- The SOLID GUITAR sound (VARIATION on) or SPECIAL 6 sound may produce a cutting sound on the highest note; this is normal for those specific sounds.
Rhythm
- Rhythm does not sound, or only hi-hat and bass drum are heard:
- Check BALANCE volumes for DRUMS; adjust if set to 0.
- KN400: Ensure a COMP button with a stored performance was selected in RHYTHM SELECT. Change rhythm or store a new pattern.
- Check MIDI clock setting; set to internal clock if necessary.
- If only hi-hat and bass drum are heard, the KEYBOARD PERCUSSION button might be on. Turn it off for normal rhythm.
Auto Play Chord
- Some parts do not sound:
- Check BALANCE volumes for each part; adjust if set to 0.
- KN400: Ensure the corresponding ACCOMP PART 1, 2, or 3 button is on.
- If KEYBOARD PERCUSSION is played, ACCOMP and BASS patterns may not sound. Turn off KEYBOARD PERCUSSION.
Sequencer
- Error "beep" when attempting to record, multi-track recording not working:
- Check if SEQUENCER memory storage capacity is full.
- Ensure the START/STOP button has been pressed for playback track selection. A flashing track indicator shows ready for recording; a lit indicator shows ready for playback.
- KN400: Ensure the part to record is turned on in the CONDUCTOR section (e.g., POLY 1 and POLY 2 for simultaneous recording).
- Check for conflicts between SEQUENCER buttons (POLY 1, ACCOMP/CHORD), AUTO PLAY CHORD modes (FINGERED/ONE-FINGER), and ACCOMP PART buttons.
Composer (KN400)
- Storage not possible:
- Check if COMPOSER memory storage capacity is 0. Erase a COMP 1-4 pattern if necessary.
- Stored rhythm pattern differs from original:
- A 2-measure pattern can be stored. Some rhythms are 4 measures; only 2 measures will be copied.
- Drum sound not erased when INSTR ERASE is pressed:
- Some drum sounds in preset rhythms cannot be erased this way. Follow the CLEAR procedure.
Other Issues
- Noise from radio or TV: Try moving electrical equipment further away. The sound may be from nearby broadcast or amateur radio stations.
- Cabinet becomes warm: This is normal due to the built-in power source and does not indicate trouble.
