Operating Instructions
Follow these steps to use the Kobalt DT-9011 Voltage Tester:
- Inspect the Tester: Before use, visually inspect the tester, test leads, and probes for any signs of damage. Do not use if damaged.
- Select Voltage Range and Mode: Turn the rotary selector dial to the desired voltage range and to either AC or DC mode. Start with a higher range if the voltage is unknown.
- Connect the Probes:
- For DC voltage measurement, connect the red probe to the positive side of the circuit and the black probe to the negative side.
- For AC voltage measurement, the polarity of the probes does not matter.
- Perform the Test: Carefully touch the tip of one probe to one point in the circuit and the tip of the other probe to another point. Ensure good contact.
- Read the Display: Observe the analog meter's needle. The needle will deflect to indicate the measured voltage on the selected scale.
- Disconnect Probes: After taking the reading, carefully remove the probes from the circuit.
- Turn Off/Select Off Position: Return the rotary dial to the 'OFF' position when not in use.
Diagram Description: The tester features a clear analog display with a needle indicator, a rotary selector dial for choosing voltage ranges and AC/DC modes, and two insulated test probes connected by a flexible cable. The probes have insulated handles and metal tips for contact.
Maintenance and Care
To ensure the longevity and accuracy of your Kobalt DT-9011 Voltage Tester:
- Keep the tester clean and dry. Wipe with a soft, dry cloth.
- Store the tester in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and corrosive materials.
- Avoid dropping or subjecting the tester to strong impacts.
- Do not attempt to disassemble or repair the tester yourself. Contact authorized service personnel.
Troubleshooting
Problem: Needle does not move or shows zero reading.
Possible Causes & Solutions:
- Circuit is not live: Verify power to the circuit.
- Incorrect range selected: Ensure the dial is set to an appropriate voltage range.
- Poor probe contact: Ensure probes are making firm contact with the circuit points.
- Damaged test leads or tester: Inspect for damage. If damaged, discontinue use and seek service.
