Hook-up
This section describes how to connect the EUROLIVE B1800XP/B1500XP subwoofer with satellite speakers. The diagrams illustrate two common setups:
Mono Setup:
A mixer (e.g., XENYX 1222FX) is connected to the B1800XP subwoofer via XLR cables. The subwoofer's THRU or OUTPUT jacks are then used to connect to the satellite speakers (B212D).
Stereo Setup:
A mixer (e.g., XENYX 1222FX) is connected to two B1800XP subwoofers (one for left, one for right) via XLR cables. The subwoofers' THRU or OUTPUT jacks are then used to connect to the satellite speakers (B212D) for each channel.
Note on Pole Mounting: The B1800XP/B1500XP is designed for pole mounting, allowing it to be securely attached to a speaker pole for elevating satellite speakers.
Controls
The EUROLIVE B1800XP/B1500XP features several controls for sound shaping and system integration:
- INPUT Jacks (XLR): Accept audio signals via balanced XLR cables.
- THRU XLR Jacks: Send out full-range copies of each input signal.
- OUTPUT XLR Jacks: Send out filtered copies of each input signal. Each signal is processed through a 100 Hz high-pass filter for use with mid- and high-frequency satellite speakers.
- LEVEL Knob: Controls the input gain.
- BOOST FREQUENCY Knob: Targets a boost frequency between 40 Hz and 90 Hz.
- BOOST Switch: Adds +10 dB of boost to a specific frequency controlled by the BOOST FREQUENCY knob.
- HIGH CUT Knob: Controls the upper corner frequency for the subwoofer's amplifier. This control does not affect the THRU A/B or OUTPUT A/B signals.
- PHASE Switch (NORM/REV): Reverses the output phase to compensate for frequency cancellation between the subwoofer and satellite speakers. Select the position that delivers the best-sounding result.
- POWER LED: Lights up when the speaker is powered on.
- SIGNAL LED: Lights up when a signal enters the amplifier at the INPUT XLR jacks.
- LIMIT LED: Lights up when the amplifier overloads.
- POWER Button: Turns the speaker on and off.
- POWER SOURCE Jack: Accepts the included IEC power cable.
Getting Started
- Step 1: Setup
Place the speaker(s) in desired locations. - Step 2: Connections
Make all necessary connections. DO NOT turn on the power yet. - Step 3: Initial Settings
Set the controls as shown: LEVEL knob fully counter-clockwise, HIGH CUT knob fully clockwise, BOOST FREQUENCY knob centered, BOOST switch set to the OFF position, and PHASE set to the NORM position. - Step 4: Power On Audio Source
Turn on your audio source. - Step 5: Power On Speaker
Turn on your speaker(s) by pressing the POWER SWITCH. The POWER LED will light up. - Step 6: Adjust Volume
While playing your audio source, adjust the LEVEL knob to the desired volume level. If the LIMIT LED flashes continuously, turn the LEVEL knob back down until the LIMIT LED only lights occasionally. - Step 7: Adjust High Cut and Phase
Slowly rotate the HIGH CUT knob counter-clockwise until you find the best sound balance between the subwoofer and the satellite speakers. To compensate for possible phase cancellation between the subwoofer and other speakers in your system, move the PHASE switch from the NORM position to the REV position. Keep the setting which delivers the best-sounding result. - Step 8: Shape the Sound with Boost
To further shape the sound, move the BOOST switch to the ON position. Rotate the BOOST FREQUENCY knob until you find a suitable frequency.
