9 Product and safety information

For your safety

Read these simple guidelines. Failure to follow them may be dangerous or against local laws and regulations. For more information, read the complete user guide.

Switch off in restricted areas

Switch off your device when mobile device use is not allowed or may cause interference or danger, for example, in aircraft, hospitals, or near medical equipment, fuel, chemicals, or blasting areas. Always obey instructions in restricted areas.

Road safety comes first

Obey all local laws. Always keep your hands free to operate the vehicle while driving. Prioritize road safety.

Interference

All wireless devices may be susceptible to interference, which could affect performance.

Authorised service

Only authorized personnel may install or repair this product.

Batteries, chargers, and other accessories

Use only batteries, chargers, and other accessories approved by HMD Global Oy for this device. Do not connect incompatible products.

Keep your device dry

If your device is water-resistant, consult its IP rating in the technical specifications for more detailed guidance.

Glass parts

The device and/or its screen is made of glass. This glass can break if the device is dropped on a hard surface or receives a substantial impact. If the glass breaks, do not touch the glass parts of the device or attempt to remove the broken glass. Stop using the device until the glass is replaced by authorized service personnel.

Protect your hearing

To prevent possible hearing damage, do not listen at high volume levels for long periods. Exercise caution when holding your device near your ear while the loudspeaker is in use.

SAR

This device meets RF exposure guidelines when used against the head or positioned at least 1.5 centimeters (5/8 inch) away from the body. For more information, see the Certification Information (SAR) section of this user guide or visit www.sar-tick.com.

Take care of your device

Handle your device, battery, charger, and accessories with care to keep them operational.

  • Keep the device dry. Precipitation, humidity, and liquids can contain minerals that corrode electronic circuits.
  • Do not use or store the device in dusty or dirty areas.
  • Do not store the device in high temperatures; high temperatures may damage the device or battery.
  • Do not store the device in cold temperatures. When the device warms up, moisture can form inside and cause damage.
  • Do not open the device except as instructed in the user guide.
  • Unauthorized modifications may damage the device and violate radio device regulations.
  • Do not drop, knock, or shake the device or battery. Rough handling can cause breakage.
  • Use only a soft, clean, dry cloth to clean the device surface.
  • Do not paint the device, as paint can prevent proper operation.
  • Keep the device away from magnets or magnetic fields.
  • To keep your data safe, store it in at least two separate places (e.g., device, memory card, computer) or write down important information.

During extended operation, the device may feel warm, which is normal. To prevent overheating, the device may slow down, dim the display during calls, close apps, stop charging, or switch itself off. If the device is not working properly, take it to the nearest authorized service facility.

Recycle

[Recycle symbol with phone] Always return used electronic products, batteries, and packaging materials to dedicated collection points. This helps prevent uncontrolled waste disposal and promotes recycling. Electrical and electronic products contain valuable materials like metals and precious metals that can be recovered.

Crossed-out wheelie bin symbol

[Crossed-out wheelie bin symbol] This symbol reminds you that electrical and electronic products and batteries must be collected separately at the end of their working life. Remember to remove personal data first. Do not dispose of these products as unsorted municipal waste; take them for recycling. For information on your nearest recycling point, check with your local waste authority or visit www.hmd.com/phones/support/topics/recycle.

Battery and charger information

Check the Get started guide to determine if your tablet has a removable or non-removable battery.

Devices with a removable battery: Use only the original rechargeable battery. It can be charged and discharged hundreds of times but will eventually wear out. Replace the battery when standby time is noticeably shorter.

Devices with a non-removable battery: Do not attempt to remove the battery, as you may damage the device. The battery can be charged and discharged hundreds of times but will eventually wear out. Replace the battery at an authorized service facility when standby time is noticeably shorter.

Charge your device with a compatible charger. Charging time may vary. Battery and charger safety information:

Once fully charged, unplug the charger from the device and the outlet. Continuous charging should not exceed 12 hours. A fully charged battery loses charge over time if left unused.

Extreme temperatures reduce battery capacity and lifetime. Keep the battery between 15°C and 25°C (59°F and 77°F) for optimal performance. A battery in hot or cold conditions may not work temporarily. Batteries may drain quickly in cold temperatures, potentially switching off the device within minutes. Keep your device warm when outdoors in cold temperatures.

Obey local regulations and recycle when possible. Do not dispose of this product as household waste.

Do not expose the battery to extremely low air pressure or high temperatures (e.g., in a fire), as it may explode or leak flammable liquid or gas.

Do not dismantle, cut, crush, bend, puncture, or otherwise damage the battery. If a battery leaks, flush affected areas with water or seek medical help immediately. Do not modify, insert foreign objects, or immerse the battery in water or other liquids. Damaged batteries may explode.

Use the battery and charger only for their intended purposes. Improper use of unapproved or incompatible batteries/chargers may pose risks of fire, explosion, or other hazards, and may invalidate approvals or warranties. If a battery or charger appears damaged, take it to a service center or dealer before further use. Never use a damaged battery or charger. Only charge indoors. Do not charge during lightning storms. If a charger is not included, use the data cable and a USB power adapter. Third-party cables and adapters compliant with USB 2.0 or later and applicable safety standards are acceptable; however, others may not meet standards and could pose risks.

To unplug a charger or accessory, hold and pull the plug, not the cord.

If your device has a removable battery:

  • Always switch the device off and unplug the charger before removing the battery.
  • Accidental short-circuiting can occur if a metallic object touches the battery's metal strips, potentially damaging the battery or the object.

Small children

Your device and accessories are not toys. They may contain small parts. Keep them out of the reach of small children.

Hearing

Warning: Using a headset may affect your ability to hear outside sounds. Do not use the headset where it could endanger your safety.

Some wireless devices may interfere with hearing aids.

Protect your device from harmful content

Your device may be exposed to viruses and other harmful content. Take these precautions:

  • Be cautious when opening messages, as they may contain malicious software.
  • Be cautious when accepting connectivity requests, browsing the internet, or downloading content. Do not accept Bluetooth connections from untrusted sources.
  • Only install and use services and software from trusted sources that offer adequate security.
  • Install antivirus and other security software on your device and any connected computer. Use only one antivirus app at a time, as multiple apps may affect performance.
  • If accessing preinstalled bookmarks or third-party links, take appropriate precautions. HMD Global is not liable for such sites.

Vehicles

Radio signals may affect improperly installed or shielded electronic systems in vehicles. Check with your vehicle manufacturer for details. Only authorized personnel should install the device in a vehicle; faulty installation can be dangerous and void your warranty. Regularly check that all wireless equipment in your vehicle is mounted and operating correctly. Do not store or carry flammable or explosive materials in the same compartment as the device or its accessories. Do not place your device or accessories in an airbag deployment area.

Potentially explosive environments

Switch your device off in potentially explosive environments, such as near petrol pumps. Sparks can cause explosions or fires. Note restrictions in areas with fuel, chemical plants, or blasting operations. These areas may not be clearly marked. Examples include areas where you are advised to switch off your engine, below deck on boats, chemical transfer or storage facilities, and areas with airborne chemicals or particles. Check with manufacturers of vehicles using liquefied petroleum gas (like propane or butane) regarding safe use of this device in their vicinity.

Certification information

This mobile device meets guidelines for exposure to radio waves.

10 Use the Low blue light mode

Blue light is a color in the visible light spectrum. It has the shortest wavelength and produces more energy. Blue light passes through the eye's cornea and lens to the retina, potentially causing eye strain, headaches, and sleep disturbances. To limit blue light, the display industry developed solutions like the Low blue light mode.

To switch on the Low blue light mode on your tablet, tap Settings > Display > Night Light > Turn on. If you need to look at your tablet's screen for a long time, take frequent breaks and relax your eyes by looking at distant objects.
