Hardware Connections
This section guides you through connecting your ZyXEL C424G device.
- Connect a computer: Use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer to one of the GbE LAN ports on the device. Diagram shows a computer connected via Ethernet cable to port 1 on the device.
- Connect a phone: Connect a phone to the VoIP port. Diagram shows a phone connected to port 2 on the device.
- Connect the power: Connect the power adapter to the device and plug it into a power outlet. Diagram shows the power adapter connecting to the device's power port (12V DC 2.5A).
- Check LEDs: Ensure the device powers on and check the status of the GPON and VoIP LEDs.
LED Status Indicators:
- POWER: Indicates the device is powered on.
- WAN/GPON:
- GREEN: PON connection established and registered.
- RED: PON not connected. Disconnect power and repeat hardware connection steps.
- OFF: PON not connected.
- INTERNET: Indicates internet connectivity status.
- VoIP1:
- GREEN: VoIP registration is complete.
- RED: VoIP registration failed. Go to the Web Configurator and configure VoIP settings.
- OFF: VoIP not configured or disabled.
- VoIP2: Similar status to VoIP1.
- WiFi 2.4G / WiFi 5G: Indicate wireless network status.
- WPS: Indicates Wi-Fi Protected Setup status.
Internet Setup
To access the internet setup and configuration interface:
- Open a web browser on a connected computer.
- Enter the IP Address: http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar.
- Enter the administrator username and password. The default credentials are often found on a sticker on the device.
Default Username: admin
Default Password: 1234
- Click "Apply" to log in.
Wireless Setup
Using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)
This method allows for quick and secure connection of wireless devices.
- On the ZyXEL C424G, press the WPS button until the WiFi 2.4G LED flashes orange. This typically takes more than 5 seconds.
- On your wireless client device (e.g., laptop, smartphone), press its WPS button or activate WPS through its settings. This should be done within 2 minutes of pressing the WPS button on the ZyXEL device.
Manual Wireless Connection (No WPS)
If WPS is not available or preferred, you can connect manually using the SSID and wireless key.
- Locate the device's wireless network name (SSID) and password (wireless key). These are often printed on a sticker on the bottom of the device.
- On your wireless client device, search for available Wi-Fi networks.
- Select the device's SSID (e.g., "CenturyLink0001" or "CenturyLink0001_5G").
- Enter the wireless key (passphrase) when prompted to connect.
Advanced Setup: GPON Interface
The device allows for advanced configuration of GPON WAN interfaces. You can add or remove interfaces as needed. It is recommended to create interfaces in a specific order, for example, creating 'veip0' first, then 'veip1'.

The ZyXEL C424G can be mounted on a wall for convenient placement.
- Attach the mounting bracket to the wall using appropriate screws and anchors. Ensure it is level and secure.
- Align the device with the mounting bracket.
- Slide the device onto the bracket until it clicks into place, securing it to the wall.
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Information
FCC Interference Statement
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. The equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy. This equipment complies with FCC radiation exposure limits set forth for an uncontrolled environment. It must be installed and operated in accordance with provided instructions.
