The PRYMEBLU BTH-550-RADIO is a wireless speaker microphone designed for use with Icom radios featuring built-in Bluetooth connectivity.
Controls and Connection
The speaker microphone features several controls and connection points:
Accessory Jack
This 3.5mm jack is used to connect an optional, wired listen-only earphone or an audio accessory for enhanced privacy. Standard 3.5mm mono or stereo listen-only earphones can be plugged in. Received calls will be heard over the earphone. It can also be used with a 3.5mm 4-conductor (Apple iPhone compatible) audio accessory that includes both an earphone and a microphone. When such an accessory is used, received calls are heard over its earphones, and transmit audio is taken from its microphone.
PTT Button
This button activates the push-to-talk feature of the connected 2-way radio.
Pairing Button
Press and hold this button to place the BTH-550 microphone into pairing mode for connection to a 2-way radio.
Front Firing Speaker
Received calls are heard through this speaker. Volume can be adjusted using the Volume/Power Knob on the speaker microphone or the volume controls on the 2-way radio.
Volume Control/Power Knob
This knob turns the BTH-550 microphone on and off and adjusts the volume of received calls.
Status LEDs
Red and blue LEDs indicate the current status of the speaker microphone.
Microphone
This microphone picks up the user's voice audio for transmitting calls.
Replaceable Clothing Clip
An alligator-type clip secures the speaker microphone to the user's clothing. The clip can be rotated for optimal positioning.
Charge Jack
This mini-USB jack is used to recharge the removable battery by connecting the BTH-550 to a USB charger or any powered USB source.
Charging the Speaker Microphone
The BTH-550 speaker microphone has an internal Lithium Ion rechargeable battery pack that requires charging before operation and regularly thereafter. A fully charged battery provides up to 40 hours of continuous operation, though actual operating time may vary based on usage and battery condition.
The microphone can be charged using a wall charger (not included) or an optional drop-in charging cradle (not included, part number P-CHA-550).
Charging using the Wall Charger:
- Ensure the microphone is turned off using the Power/Volume Knob. The microphone cannot be operated while plugged into the wall charger.
- Plug the charge cable into any powered USB outlet (e.g., an AC wall charger) and then into the charge jack on the bottom of the speaker microphone.
- The LED indicator on the speaker microphone will show a constant red light during charging.
- Typical charge time is approximately five hours, but actual time may vary based on battery state, condition, and age.
- When the battery is fully charged, the LED indicator will turn off.
- Disconnect the charger from the microphone upon completion.
Charging using the Optional Drop-in Charging Cradle:
- Plug the power cable for the charge cradle into any powered USB outlet (e.g., an AC wall adapter) and then into the jack on the back of the charge cradle. The LED on the charge cradle will light solid green.
- Place the microphone into the charge cradle. Note: The microphone can continue to be operated while in the charge cradle.
- The LED indicator on the charge cradle will show a constant red light once charging begins.
- Typical charge time is approximately five hours. Actual charge time may vary based on whether the microphone is operated during charging, and the battery's state, condition, and age.
- When the battery is fully charged, the LED indicator on the charge cradle will turn green.
Charging Cautions:
- Do not use a charger or charge cable that appears damaged (e.g., frayed wires, melted plastic). Contact PRYME for manufacturer-approved replacements.
- Do not tamper with or modify the speaker microphone or charger.
- Always turn the speaker microphone off when charging.
Optional Cradle Charger Part No. P-CHA-DT1
Pairing with an Icom Radio
To pair the PRYMEBLU Speaker Microphone with an Icom radio:
- Ensure the Speaker Microphone is powered off.
- Power the Microphone ON using the Volume Knob.
- Press and hold the Pairing Button for approximately 3 seconds until the LED flashes RED-BLUE-RED-BLUE repeatedly. The microphone is now in pairing mode.
- Follow the Icom radio manufacturer's instructions to scan for nearby headset devices.
- Select the PRYMEBLU microphone from the list of nearby devices.
- The devices should sync within a few seconds. The status LED on the Speaker Microphone will show one flash every few seconds once paired.
- Once successfully paired, you can operate your 2-way radio using the PRYMEBLU Speaker Mic.
Reconnecting a Previously Paired Device
Once paired, the PRYMEBLU Speaker Microphone and radio will remember their connection. They will attempt to reestablish their link automatically when both are powered on and within range. Reconnection can take 10-60 seconds.
Using the PRYMEBLU Speaker Microphone
After pairing, received signals will be heard through the speaker microphone's front-firing speaker or an optional earphone. Volume is adjustable via the Volume/Power Knob or the radio/cellphone's volume controls.
When transmitting or on a call, the microphone picks up the user's voice. Push-to-Talk (PTT) is activated by pressing and holding the PTT button on the speaker microphone.

The speaker microphone's LEDs provide status information:

Connecting an Audio Accessory
For enhanced privacy, the PRYMEBLU BTH-550 speaker microphone can be used with a listen-only earphone or another compatible audio accessory that includes an earphone and a microphone. Various optional wired audio accessories are available.
To connect an audio accessory:
- Plug the audio accessory into the 3.5 mm audio jack located on the top of the speaker microphone. Ensure the connector is fully inserted.
- Adjust the volume of received signals using the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons on the speaker microphone or the volume settings on the cellphone/radio.
Optional Audio Accessories:
The 3.5 mm audio jack accepts any stereo earphone with a 3.5 mm audio plug. It also supports 3.5mm 4-conductor (Apple iPhone compatible) accessories with both an earphone and microphone (e.g., Apple part numbers ME186LL/A, or MD827LL/A - not included). If the accessory has a built-in microphone, transmit audio will be sourced from it.

Support and Warranty
PRYME Radio Products warrants this product against defects in materials or workmanship for one year from the date of retail purchase. PRYME will repair or replace a defective unit at its option, without charge for parts or labor. This limited warranty extends only to the original purchaser and is valid only for consumers in the United States and Canada. It does not cover damage or failure caused by Acts of God, abuse, misuse, improper or abnormal usage, faulty installation, improper maintenance, lightning, excessive voltage, or tampering/repairs by unauthorized facilities. It also does not cover consumable parts, transportation costs, or damage in transit.
Repair or replacement under this warranty does not extend the warranty period. This warranty can only be modified in writing by an officer of PRYME Radio Products. Should the product prove defective, the consumer's sole remedies are repair or replacement as provided herein. PRYME Radio Products shall not be liable for any direct, consequential, or incidental loss or damage arising from the use or inability to use this product. Some states do not allow limitations on implied warranty duration or exclusions of incidental/consequential damages, so these limitations may not apply.
