  • Mounting screws (Part # 52502, 2x)
  • Keys (2x) ?
  • SmartKey™ tool

Required Tools

You will need the following tools for installation:

  • Phillips head screwdriver ?
  • Ruler ?

⚠️ Note: Do not use electric drills.

Installation

Step 1: Measure Door Thickness

Ensure your door thickness is between 1-3/4" and 2" (44mm - 51mm).

⚠️ If door thickness is greater than 2" (51mm), contact Kwikset customer service at 1-800-327-5625. Your installation will require a thick door installation kit.

Step 2: Remove Your Existing Deadbolt

Your new lock supports a door thickness of 1-3/4" to 2" (44mm to 51mm) and a door bore hole diameter of 2-1/8" (54mm).

If drilling a new door, use the supplied template and instructions available at: kwikset.com/doorprep.

Step 3: Install the Latch

A. Extend the latch bolt.

B. Ensure the "UP" indicator is on top.

C. If the D-shaped hole is not centered in the bore hole, rotate the latch face to extend the latch.

? If your door requires a drive-in latch, please contact Kwikset at 1-800-327-5625.

Secure the latch using screws (Part # 03809, 2x). Use longer screws if the holes are worn out. You will have two extra screws.

Step 4: Install the Strike and Sensor Magnet

Install the strike plate onto the door jamb using screws (Part # 46780, 4x). Install the longer screws closest to the door jamb.

A. Peel the liner from the door sensor magnet.

B. Place the magnet above the strike, ensuring the surface is clean and flat. The magnet should be positioned approximately 3/4" (20mm) from the strike.

C. Press firmly for 10 seconds.

The strike plate requires a 1" (25 mm) hole depth.

Step 5: Install the Exterior Assembly

A. Route the cable under the latch.

[OUTSIDE] orientation indicated.

Step 6: Install the Interior Assembly

Ensure the interior assembly is oriented correctly for the inside of the door.

Before installation: Remove the interior cover from the interior assembly. Make sure to remove the battery pack before installing the interior assembly. Press down on the tab to release the battery pack and pull it out.

A. If the turnpiece is not pointing up, rotate it until it's in a vertical position.

B. Connect the cable. Ensure a tight cable connection.

C. Lay the cable flat inside the bottom of the interior housing.

D. Ensure the spindle fully engages with the turnpiece shaft.

⚠️ Ensure the cable remains connected.

Secure the interior assembly onto the mounting plate using screws (Part # 52502, 2x).

Tighten the screws evenly. DO NOT over-tighten.

Keep the interior assembly parallel to the door edge.

Step 7: Install Batteries and Battery Pack

A. Insert (4) AA batteries (included) into the battery tray. Ensure correct polarity. Use new, non-rechargeable alkaline batteries only.

With the door open, install the battery pack. NOTE: The lock must be installed on the door before inserting the batteries.

B. Ensure the bottom tabs of the battery pack are placed in the slots of the interior assembly before fully inserting the battery pack. The battery pack should be flush after installation if inserted properly.

⚠️ The Kwikset app is needed to use this lock. If this lock was professionally installed (or installed by someone other than the homeowner), make sure this step is performed by the homeowner.

Reference Guide

Locked / Unlocked

To lock your door: Press the lock icon ?. The bolt will extend, then the screen will display the Locked LED Indicator and play the locked tone.

To unlock your door: Enter your access code. The bolt will retract, then the screen will display the Unlocked LED Indicator and play the unlocked tone.

Amber connectivity icon will remain on for 1.5 seconds when locked.

Green connectivity icon will remain on for 1.5 seconds when unlocked.

SmartKey® Re-key

Re-key the lock to work with your existing key by following the SmartKey® Re-key instructions.

NOTE: If Auto-Lock is enabled, remove the battery pack before re-keying your lock.

Exterior LED Indicators

  • Amber: Locked
  • Green: Unlocked
  • Alternating Red flashing: Lock Jammed
  • Red: Low Battery ?
  • Red: Invalid Credentials
  • Red: Lockout

Interior Status LED Indicators

  • Green Slow Blinking: Unlocked
  • Amber Slow Blinking: Locked
  • Red Blinking: Low Battery ?

Factory Reset

Factory Reset will:

  • Delete all access codes and associated schedule.
  • Reset lock settings to default.
  • Lock will show as offline in the Kwikset App.
  • Lock will be deactivated and will need to be set up as new.

Factory Reset should be used when:

  • You want to change the lock owner.
  • You have lost your phone.
  • You are troubleshooting the lock.

Procedure:

  1. Remove the battery pack, then press and hold the Programming Button.
  2. While still holding the Programming Button, insert the battery pack. Continue holding the Programming Button for 30 seconds.
  3. After 30 seconds, the Status LED light will flash RED and the lock will beep. Release the Programming Button.
  4. Press the Programming Button once within 5 seconds of the Status LED light displaying RED to confirm factory reset.
  5. SUCCESS: Lock will play a series of beeps, Status LED will flash GREEN, then pulsing BLUE.
  6. UNSUCCESSFUL: Lock will play a single-tone sound, Status LED light will flash RED.

  • Keyway: For physical key access.
  • SmartKey™ tool access: For re-keying.

  • Battery Icon: ? (Indicates battery status)
  • Button A: (Specific function may vary, often for pairing/setup)
  • Pairing Button: Used for connecting to networks/devices.
  • Lock Icon: ? (Initiates locking action)

Interior View (cover removed):

  • Status LED: Indicates lock status (Green/Amber/Red).
  • Programming Button: Used for setup and reset.
  • Battery Compartment: Holds AA batteries.

Important Safeguards

  1. Read all instructions in their entirety.
  2. Familiarize yourself with all warning and caution statements.
  3. Remind all family members of safety precautions.
  4. Always have access to your lock's standard key.
  5. If using the Auto-Lock features, make sure you have your smartphone or standard key with you to prevent locking yourself out.
  6. Familiarize yourself with all light bar error notifications.
  7. Replace low batteries immediately.
  8. Dispose of used batteries according to local laws and regulations.
