Important Safety Information
WARNING! The Carbon Monoxide (CO) Alarm is a sophisticated device that has been carefully designed and tested to detect CO build-up in residential environments. CO cannot be seen, smelled or tasted and can be fatal. CO build-up in the food is a carbonmonoxide poisoning. It is generated by the body's ability to apply oxygen. Killing oxygen. In depending on the concentration, carbon monoxide can kill in minutes. The most common sources of CO are used for heating and cooking in vehicles, engines, electric generators, blocked chimneys and faulty appliances.
WARNING! NEVER ignore any alarm. If there is any question as to the cause of an alarm, it should be assumed that the alarm is due to dangerous levels of carbon monoxide and the dwelling should be evacuated. See section "What to Do If the Alarm Sounds" for more information. Failure to respond can result in injury or death.
This device is intended for use in ordinary living units. Individuals with medical conditions that may make them more sensitive to carbon monoxide may consider using warning devices which provide audible and visual alarms for carbon monoxide concentrations under 30 ppm. For additional information on carbon monoxide and your medical condition, consult your physician. Gas appliances/equipment should be installed by trained personnel only. Get the devices/equipment in good mechanical condition and have them checked regularly. The installation of the CO detector should not be used as a substitute for proper installation, use and maintenance of fuel-fired facilities, including appropriate ventilation and exhaust systems.
How Your CO Alarm Works
The CO Alarm consists of the following components:
- Test/Hush/Networking button [⚙️]
- Buzzer [?]
- LED Indicator [?]
- Air inlet [?️]
The alarm operates by detecting carbon monoxide gas. When CO is detected at dangerous levels, the alarm will sound a loud audible warning and flash its LED indicator.
Note: The "DISPLAY" item mentioned in some contexts refers to models with a digital display, which this model may not have.
Alarm Conditions and Indicators
Condition | Operation | LED | Buzzer |
---|---|---|---|
Power up and Warm-up | Install 2xAA batteries. Alarm warms up for approx. 100 seconds. LEDs flash alternately. | Red/Yellow/Green LED flashes alternately | One short beep |
Stand-by condition | After warm-up, alarm enters standby. | Green LED flashes every 30 seconds | None |
Test condition | Press and release Test/Hush/Networking button. | Red LED flashes four times | Alarm sounds four beeps |
Alarm condition | Presence of carbon monoxide. | Red LED flashes quickly (four flashes every 5 seconds) | Beeps quickly (four beeps every 5 seconds) |
Low battery | Battery needs replacement. | Yellow LED flashes every 30 seconds | One beep every 30 seconds |
Sensor failure | Sensor malfunction. | Yellow LED flashes twice every 30 seconds | Two beeps every 30 seconds |
End of life | Device needs replacement. | Yellow LED flashes twice every 30 seconds | One long beep and one short beep every 30 seconds |
Hush condition | Silence an unwanted alarm. Press and release Test/Hush/Networking button. | Red LED flashes quickly (four flashes every 5 seconds) | None (Hush duration: about 10 minutes) |
Hush condition (Low Battery) | Silence low battery warning. Press Test/Hush/Networking button. | Yellow LED flashes every 30 seconds | None (Hush duration: about 12 hours) |
*Attention: If remote silencing function is available, any remote silencing feature shall only be used in line of sight of the CO alarm. Hushing: When the CO Alarm is sounding an alarm after a suspected false alarm, you can press the Test/Hush button and the CO alarm will remain silent for 10 minutes. While the Alarm is silenced, it will continue to monitor the air for CO. The alarm will sound again if CO level is still at a dangerous level. The Hush Feature is intended to temporarily silence the Alarm horn; it will not correct a CO problem.
Placement Recommendations
6. LOCATIONS TO AVOID
- Garages, kitchens, furnace rooms, or any extremely dusty, dirty, or greasy areas.
- Areas where combustion particles are produced (e.g., near stoves, furnaces, water heaters, space heaters) if possible. Maintain at least 20 feet (6 meters) distance. In smaller homes, place as far as possible from fuel-burning sources to reduce "unwanted" alarms. Ventilate these areas well.
- Within 5 feet (1.5 meters) of any cooking appliance.
- Extremely humid areas, at least 10 feet (3 meters) from bathrooms, saunas, humidifiers, laundry rooms, etc.
- Areas with temperatures below -10°C or above 40°C (e.g., unconditioned crawl spaces, unfinished attics, poorly insulated ceilings, porches, garages).
- Areas with turbulent air (near ceiling fans, heat vents, air conditioners, open windows) as blowing air may prevent CO from reaching the sensors.
- In direct sunlight.
Caution: When cleaning, painting, or using aerosols, remove the CO alarm to prevent sensor damage.
Caution: High concentrations of certain substances (methane, propane, solvents, aerosols, etc.) can damage the sensor and cause false alarms.
A diagram illustrates typical room layouts (Living Room, Bedroom, Kitchen, Garage) with recommended placement zones for the CO alarm, avoiding direct proximity to combustion sources.
