A Step-by-Step Guide to Firing Up Your Solo Stove

Switch Up Your Fuel

Try cooking with a full load of fuel lit on top. Start by placing large sticks and twigs neatly on top of the nichrome wire grate until they reach the top air vents. Light a small fire on top using your favorite fire-starting method and feed it with small to medium-sized sticks until the fire is self-sustaining. Continue to do this until the fire spans the full width of the stove and the main fuel load begins to burn from top down. Begin cooking and feed additional fuel through the opening ring as needed.

Use Dry Wood

Always use dry wood when possible. Wet wood will take longer to burn and will produce more smoke.

Search for Hardwood

Hardwood (birch, maple, hickory, oak, etc.) will burn longer and generate less soot build-up than softwood.

User Warnings

• Solo Stoves are for outdoor use only and should not be used in a building, a garage, or any other enclosed area.
• Solo Stoves are extremely hot when in use. Never attempt to touch or move your Solo Stove during use or before it has completely cooled down.
• Be especially careful not to lean up against or let any body part touch Solo Stoves during use or after use until all fire, coals, and ashes are completely extinguished and it has completely cooled. Any direct contact may lead to serious injury whether accidental or otherwise. Do not lean any objects against Solo Stoves.
• Do not use Solo Stoves for indoor heating. Toxic carbon monoxide can accumulate and cause asphyxiation and possibly death.
• Solo Stoves are not for commercial use.
• Do not operate Solo Stoves if under the age of 18 unless under strict adult supervision. Solo Stoves are not toys.
• Never leave Solo Stoves unattended, especially when children and pets are nearby.
• Be aware of potential damage to people and property from embers.
• Solo Stoves are not to be used in a boat or motorhome.
• Always use Solo Stoves in accordance with all applicable local, regional, and national codes. Contact your local fire service for details.
• When using Solo Stoves, exercise the same precautions you would with any open fire.
• The use of alcohol, prescription, or non-prescription drugs may impair the consumer's ability to operate Solo Stoves safely.
• Do not use Solo Stoves until you have read the operating instructions and user warnings.
• Solo Stoves are designed for use with natural fuel sources and may not function properly with other fuel sources.
• Do not alter or modify Solo Stoves in any manner.
• Do not store or use petrol or any other flammable vapors or liquids in the vicinity of Solo Stoves.
• Do not store or use LP gas cylinders within 30 feet of Solo Stoves while in operation.
• Do not use Solo Stoves near cars, lorries, vans, or motorhomes.
• Do not use Solo Stoves in any explosive environment. Keep the area around Solo Stoves clear and free of any combustible materials, petrol, or any flammable liquids.
• Do not use Solo Stoves under any overhead or near any unprotected combustible constructions. Avoid using or near any overhanging trees or shrubs.
• Always use Solo Stoves on a level non-combustible surface. Use on wood or composite decks at your own risk.
• Do not wear flammable or loose clothing when operating Solo Stoves.
• Do not use Solo Stoves in windy conditions.
• Do not use petrol, kerosene, diesel fuel, lighter fluid, alcohol, or any other flammable liquid to light or relight Solo Stoves.
• Keep all electrical cables away from Solo Stoves.
• All surfaces of Solo Stoves are extremely hot when in operation. To avoid burns and serious injury, do not touch your Solo Stove until the fire is completely out and it has completely cooled. Never touch the coals or ash to see if they're still warm.
• Do not attempt to move or store your Solo Stove until all fire, coals, and ashes are completely extinguished and the unit has completely cooled.
• Do not lean over Solo Stoves when lighting or when they are in use.
• After a period of non-use, check your Solo Stove for signs of damage and creosote build-up. Do not operate until the necessary repairs and/or clean-up is done.
• Do not use water to extinguish the fire as this could cause damage to the Solo Stove as well as injury to the user.
• Serious injury, death, and/or property damage may occur if the above instructions are not followed exactly.
