Beckett BK17/BK22 Condensate Removal Pump
This document provides installation, maintenance, and warranty information for Beckett Condensate Removal Pumps, Models BK17 and BK22.
Installation
Follow these steps for proper installation:
- Select a level location for the TANK, positioned below the condensate pan drain.
- Mount the unit on a wall using the MULTI-SLOT METAL MOUNT TABS. The tabs are spaced at 8.0", 8.35", 9.33", 10.3", or 10.65" intervals.
- Use the BULLSEYE LEVEL to ensure the pump is installed level.
- Connect the CONDENSATE DRAIN using flexible tubing or PVC pipe to one of the four top inlets. Ensure the tubing or pipe extends at least 1" below the lid but not to the bottom to prevent obstruction or siphoning.
- Connect the discharge to the CHECK VALVE using 3/8" vinyl tubing secured with a hose clamp (not included). A check valve replacement kit is available if needed.
- If the DISCHARGE TUBING is extended, slant it downward where possible to aid drainage. For optimal performance, do not extend discharge tubing beyond 17 feet vertically for the BK17 and 22 feet for the BK22. Refer to the performance chart for details.
- Connect the SAFETY SWITCH leads for proper pump operation. This feature can prevent overflow damage if the discharge is blocked or the pump fails. The leads can be wired in series with the low-voltage thermostat circuit to shut down the HVAC system or connected to an external alarm.
- To maximize mounting options, the tank LID can be removed and rotated 180°. This places the check valve on the opposite side. To remove the lid, insert a slotted screwdriver into the lid's slot and pry the tank outward while lifting the lid. Ensure the lid snaps back firmly after rotation.
- Once all mounting and water connections are secure, connect the unit to the electrical supply.
WARNING: This pump is supplied with a 3-prong grounding plug. Connect only to a properly grounded receptacle to reduce the risk of electric shock.
- Do not pump flammable liquids.
- Do not use this pump in explosive areas.
- Do not run dry.
- Do not handle the unit with wet hands or while standing in water.
- Connect only to the voltage shown on the nameplate.
- Always disconnect the unit from its electrical supply before servicing.
- Connect the safety switch for proper operation.
- For indoor use only.
Testing Pump Operation: Lift the TEST TAB up and down to verify the MAIN SWITCH and MOTOR are functioning.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows the condensate pump assembly with numbered components corresponding to the installation steps. Key parts include the tank, enclosure, fan, main switch, safety switch, check valve, and intake assembly.
Performance Chart Description: The chart illustrates the average performance of the BK17UL, BK22UL (115V), and BK22UL (230V) models. It plots flow rate (in Liters/Hour and Gallons/Hour) against head (in Meters and Feet). For instance, the BK17UL model can deliver approximately 379 Liters/Hour (100 Gallons/Hour) against a head of 3.6 meters (12 feet).
Maintenance
WARNING: DISCONNECT FROM ELECTRICAL SUPPLY BEFORE SERVICING.
Beckett pumps are tested for reliable service. If the pump is used in a dirty environment or pumps fluids other than clear condensate, the tank should be cleaned periodically with soap and water.
If the pump fails to run, check the following:
- Ensure the pump is receiving electrical power. Test with another outlet.
- Examine the discharge tubing for kinks or blockages. Ensure the intake tubing or pipe is not obstructed.
- Disconnect power, remove the ENCLOSURE (item 2), and manually spin the FAN (item 3) to confirm the motor is free.
- Verify that the MAIN SWITCH (item 1) and SAFETY SWITCH (item 4) are securely mounted.
- If further disassembly is needed, push the sides (item 5) on both ends to remove the TANK (item 6).
- Inspect the PUMP-CHECKVALVE ASSEMBLY intake (item 7) for obstructions. The CHECKVALVE (item 8) can be removed by pressing the BLOCKING PLATE (item 9) and turning the check valve counterclockwise.
