Introduction

Congratulations on your purchase of the Professional Remote Cooking Thermometer, a programmable radio frequency food thermometer. You will now be able to remotely monitor the time and temperature of food cooking on your grill, smoker or oven.

Components

  1. 1 - receiver unit.
  2. 1 - transmitter unit.
  3. 1 - detachable stainless steel probe sensor.
  4. 2 - AAA batteries.

Receiver Features

The receiver unit features a soft rubber sleeve, a belt clip, and a battery compartment. The front panel includes an LCD display and several buttons.

LCD Display: Displays all icons, temperature, and timer. The backlight flashes Blue when temperature increases by 10°F from the start, turns Green when within 15°F of the set temperature, and Red when the set temperature is reached.

Transmitter Features

The transmitter unit has a soft rubber sleeve on its sides. A wire stand is attached to the back, which can be folded out or reversed to act as a hanger. At the top is a sensor socket hole for the probe. A small TX indication LED is visible. The battery compartment is located on the back.

Installing Batteries

Insert two "AAA" batteries with correct polarity into the battery compartments of both the receiver and the transmitter.

Turn On/Off Unit

Press and hold the [°F/°C] button on the receiver or transmitter for 2 seconds to turn the unit ON or OFF.

Synchronize/Pair Transmitter and Receiver

The units are usually pre-paired. If re-synchronization is needed:

  1. Insert probes into the transmitter.
  2. Turn on the transmitter (hold [°F/°C] for 2 seconds).
  3. Turn on the receiver (hold [°F/°C] for 2 seconds).
  4. On the receiver, press and hold the [MODE] button for 2 seconds to enter synchronization mode (display shows "[sync-indicator]" and it is flashing).
  5. Wait for the temperature reading to appear on the receiver display, indicating successful pairing.

Note: Synchronization is maintained even after battery replacement.

Auto Off Feature

The receiver automatically shuts off after 30 minutes of no signal from the transmitter, with a one-minute beep warning. This feature is disabled when the timer is running.

Measuring Meat Temperature

To USDA Doneness Temperature Range:

  1. Select thermometer mode ([MODE] button).
  2. Select meat type using the [MEAT] button (e.g., BEEF, POULTRY, LAMB & FISH).
  3. Select doneness level using the [TASTE] button (e.g., RARE, MEDIUM, WELL DONE).
  4. The receiver displays the preset target temperature (TEMP SET).
  5. When the meat temperature (PROBE TEMP) reaches the preset level, the receiver beeps and the LCD backlight turns red.

To Specific Taste Temperature:

  1. Select thermometer mode.
  2. Use [HR] or [MIN] buttons to set a custom temperature. Pressing [MEAT] returns to USDA presets.
  3. When the meat temperature reaches the set level, the receiver beeps and the LCD backlight turns red.

Procedure for Typical Use on an Outdoor Grill

This example guides setting the thermometer for a medium beef steak and a 5-minute hot dog timer.

  1. Turn on the grill.
  2. Ensure the thermometer is synchronized.
  3. Place steak and hot dogs on the grill.
  4. Insert the probe sensor into the thickest part of the steak, avoiding bone or heavy fat.
  5. Position the probe wire away from flames and ensure it is not pinched by the grill cover.
  6. Place the transmitter away from the grill's heat source. Do not place it on or under the grill cover. It is not waterproof and should not be used in rain.
  7. Set meat to BEEF and taste to MEDIUM (target 150°F / 65°C).
  8. Switch to timer mode ([MODE] button).
  9. Set a 5-minute countdown timer ([MIN] button x 5) and start it ([START/STOP]).
  10. The receiver can be used up to 300 ft away.
  11. At 5 minutes, the receiver will beep for 60 seconds.
  12. The LCD backlight will flash Blue at 55°F, Green at 135°F, and Red at 150°F (medium beef).
  13. Press [STOP] to turn off the alert.
  14. Turn off the grill. Remove the probe sensor carefully with a heat-resistant glove.
  15. Clean and dry the probe sensor thoroughly.
  16. Turn off the transmitter.

Using the Timer

Countdown Timer:

  1. Select timer mode ([MODE] button).
  2. Set the timer using [HR] and [MIN] buttons.
  3. Start the countdown ([START/STOP]). A blinking indicator [blink-down] appears.
  4. To stop, press [START/STOP]. The indicator becomes solid.
  5. Press [HR] & [MIN] together to reset to 0:00.

Note: Minimum setting is 1 minute. When below 1 hour, display shows 59'59". After reaching 0:00, it counts up and beeps for 60 seconds. The timer and indicator blink. Press [START/STOP] to silence. Count up stops at 23:59:59, resets to 0:00, and beeps.

Count Up Timer:

  1. Select timer mode ([MODE] button).
  2. Start the count up ([START/STOP]). A blinking indicator [blink-up] appears.
  3. To stop, press [START/STOP]. The indicator becomes solid.
  4. Press [CLEAR] to reset to 0:00.
