In the Box
- 2x halves of the Grid Reflector
- 1x Feedhorn
- 1x Reinforced Rotational L-Bracket
- Assorted bolts, washers, and clamps
- Optional parts (included with kit only):
- 1x 30 ft RS400 coaxial cable
- 1x TS9, 1x SMA & 1x U.FL pigtail adapter
Assembling Griddy
Assembly typically takes a few minutes. You will need a 10mm wrench or pliers.
- Bring the two grid reflector halves together, ensuring the tabs overlap.
- Check tab alignment. If excessive force is needed, they are not correctly aligned.
- Secure the two halves with bolts in the four outer holes. Bolt heads should face inward.
- Slide the feedhorn's pigtail through the grid's center hole and insert four bolts through the feedhorn and grid.
- Place the rotational L-bracket over the bolts and pigtail. Tighten the feedhorn, grid, and bracket together with four nuts.
- Loosely attach the U-bolt and toothed bracket to the L-bracket.
- Slide the assembled antenna, bracket, and U-bolt onto your mast and tighten the U-bolts firmly.
- To cross-polarize the antenna, loosen the screw on the rotational mount, adjust, and retighten.
Assembly is now complete! Refer to the next section for aiming instructions.
Feedhorn Depth Selection
Adjust the feedhorn for optimal gain at specific frequencies. Slide the inner tube until the desired hole (1-4) aligns with the pinhole on the outer tube.
Instructions:
- Use a flat tool to remove the pins on both sides.
- Slide the feedhorn's pinhole to the required position and reinsert the pins.
Frequency Bands:
- Hole 1: 600-750 MHz (+1dB)
- Hole 2: 750-980 MHz (+2dB)
- Hole 3: 1700-6500 MHz (Default as per spec sheet)
- Hole 4: 1700-6500 MHz (+2dB)
Aiming Griddy
Griddy has a narrow beamwidth, requiring precise aiming for best signal strength.
Aiming at Cell Towers
1. Use a lower gain directional antenna to scan for the general direction of the best signal strength (RSRP) and quality (SINR) from your hotspot or booster.
2. Fine-tune with Griddy, adjusting a few degrees at a time. Even a 1°-2° difference can significantly impact signal strength and quality.
Accurate aiming takes patience but yields better results. Contact Waveform for assistance if needed.
Using Two or Four Griddys for MIMO
For 2x2 MIMO, loosen the rotational bracket screw and pivot antennas 45 degrees from vertical in opposite directions to "cross-polarize" them.
Antennas can be spaced horizontally or vertically a few inches apart.
For 4x4 MIMO, space two pairs of cross-polarized Griddys a few feet apart.
Aiming Griddy for Point-to-Point WiFi
Griddy is effective for point-to-point WiFi with clear line-of-sight. Align antennas by eye first, then fine-tune. Even minor adjustments (1°-2°) can improve performance.
Pro Tips
- Ensure the feedhorn is vertically aligned with the indicator arrow pointing upwards.
- Ground your antenna and mast to protect against lightning strikes.
- Maintain clear line-of-sight to the signal source. If obstructed by trees, try to position the antenna above the obstruction. Use cellmapper.net to locate nearby towers.
- If you encounter issues or expect better results, contact Waveform for expert assistance.
