Oase FiltoClear UVC Pond Filter System

Unit Configuration and Function Description

The Oase FiltoClear UVC is a pressure filter designed for pond water clarification. It utilizes a multi-stage cleaning process involving foam filters and a UV-C lamp to remove both mechanical and biological impurities.

Unit Components: The unit consists of a housing containing various cleaning stages. Key components include:

Function Description:

Filter Starter: Optimal biological cleaning is achieved after several weeks. The establishment of a bacterial community on the foam filters can be accelerated by using a filter starter product (not included).

Installation

General Installation Guidelines:

Installation Possibilities:

Connecting a Filter Pump:

Fitting the Water Inlet:

  1. Push the union nut (26) over the black hose connector (22).
  2. Insert the flat sealing ring (27) into the union nut (26).
  3. Screw the hose connector to the water inlet socket (2) using the union nut.
  4. Push the hose clamp (29) over the hose (30).
  5. Push the hose over the hose connector and secure with the hose clamp.

Fitting the Water Return:

  1. Push the union nut (26) over the transparent hose connector (20).
  2. Place the flow indicator flap (28) into the union nut.
  3. Screw the hose connector to the water return socket (1) using the union nut.
  4. Push the hose clamp (29) over the hose (30).
  5. Push the hose over the hose connector and secure with the hose clamp. Leave a segment of the hose visible for monitoring flow and soiling.

Fitting the Soiled Water Drain:

  1. Unscrew the cover cap (9) from the soiled water drain socket (7).
  2. Push the union nut (26) over the transparent hose connector (20).
  3. Place the flow indicator flap (28) into the union nut.
  4. Screw the hose connector to the socket using the union nut.
  5. Push the hose clamp (29) over the hose (30).
  6. Push the hose over the hose connector and secure with the hose clamp. Leave a segment of the hose visible for monitoring flow and soiling.

Closing the Soiled Water Drain:

Note: Ensure the soiled water socket (7) or drain hose (30) is always closed with a cover cap (9) with the flat sealing ring inserted during filter operation to prevent unintended emptying of the pond.

  1. Push the hose clamp (29) over the hose (30).
  2. Push the hose connector (23) into the hose and secure with the hose clamp.
  3. Close the hose connector using the cover cap with the flat sealing ring (9) inserted.

Commissioning/Start-up

Attention! Sensitive electrical components. Possible consequences: The unit will be destroyed. Protective measures: Do not connect the unit to a dimmable power supply.

  1. Fit all connections as described in the Installation section.
  2. Check the secure fit of hoses, the cover cap for the soiled water drain, and the clamping ring with safety latch.
  3. Turn the function switch (5) to the "water filtering" (40) position.
  4. Switch on the pond pump.
  5. Only switch on the UVC unit when water is flowing through it. Connect the power plug. The UVC unit switches on immediately, indicated by the blue LED (33).

Operation

The unit's biological activity is reduced at water temperatures below 50°F (10°C). Remove the unit from operation at temperatures below 46°F (8°C) or when freezing temperatures are expected. The UV-C lamp has a lifespan of approximately 8000 operating hours and requires replacement thereafter.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Attention! Dangerous electrical voltage. Possible consequences: Death or serious injuries. Protective measures: Switch off the mains voltage before performing any work on the unit.

Removing the UVC Unit Head:

  1. Unplug the UVC unit.
  2. Press the blue "Press" button (31) on the UVC unit head (4).
  3. Turn the UVC unit head counter-clockwise.
  4. Carefully pull the UVC unit head out of the filter lid (8).

Inserting the UVC Unit Head:

Note: The O-ring (32) on the UVC water housing closure (4) is firmly clamped. Remove it only if replacement is necessary (e.g., if it is porous).

  1. Carefully insert the UVC unit head (4) into the filter lid.
  2. Turn the UVC unit head clockwise until it stops. The blue "Press" button (31) will engage.

Opening the Container:

  1. Push back the safety latch (36).
  2. Press the closing hook (35) inwards.
  3. Open and remove the clamping ring (10).

Closing the Container:

  1. A. Clean the channel (37) around the container rim. Grease the lid sealing ring (34) and place it flush around the container (38) top edge.
  2. B. Press the filter lid (8) with the foam filters onto the container. Assist with body weight if necessary. Place the clamping ring (10) around the container top edge (avoid pinching the power cable) and assemble. Engage the closing hook (35) and push in the safety latch (36).

Cleaning the Foam Filters (Easy-Clean Function):

The Easy-Clean function facilitates cleaning of foam filters, UVC unit, and UVC water housing by actuating a cleaning handle and flushing with water.

  1. Remove the closing cap from the drain hose or dirty water drain socket (7). Attention: Do not lose the sealing ring in the cap!
  2. Turn the function switch (5) counter-clockwise to "Cleaning foam filters" (41).
  3. Pull the cleaning handle (3) up vigorously several times, then push it down against the stop (pumping action). This action rinses the foam filters.
  4. As soon as only clean water appears in the transparent hose connector (20), turn the function switch (5) counter-clockwise to "Cleaning UVC" (42). The UVC unit and housing are flushed.
  5. As soon as only clean water appears in the transparent hose connector (20), turn the function switch (5) counter-clockwise to "Filter water" (40). The unit will then filter the pond water.
  6. Close the drain hose or soiled water drain socket (7) using the closing cap with the inserted sealing ring.

Disassembling the Foam Filters:

Cleaning the Quartz Glass Tube Manually

Attention! Ultra-violet radiation. Possible consequences: Eye or skin injury from burns. Protective measures: Never operate the UVC lamp outside its housing or in a defective housing. Danger: Ultraviolet radiation. Do not expose eyes to lamp rays. Disconnect power before servicing or replacing the lamp. Warning: To reduce the risk of electric shock, connect only to a circuit protected by a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI).

Attention! Breakable glass. Possible consequences: Injury to hands from cuts. Protective measures: Handle the quartz glass and UVC lamp with care.

  1. Switch off the filter pump and UVC unit.
  2. Remove the UVC unit head (See Cleaning and maintenance\Removing/inserting the UVC unit head).
  3. Check the quartz glass tube and O-ring for damage. Replace if necessary.
  4. Clean the quartz glass tube externally with a moist cloth.
  5. Insert the UVC unit head (See Cleaning and maintenance\Removing/inserting the UVC unit head).
  6. Switch on the filter pump.
  7. Switch on the UVC unit.

Attention! Dangerous electrical voltage. Possible consequences: Death or serious injuries. Protective measures: Switch off the mains voltage prior to carrying out any work on the unit.

Cleaning the Unit and Washing or Replacing the Foam Filters:

Foam filter wear is due to mechanical stress and aging. OASE recommends replacing old foam filters with new ones at the beginning of each new season.
