Button Guide
The Tabcat Handset features the following controls:
- Directional Lights: Indicate the direction of the Tag.
- Volume: Adjusts the audio output level.
- Register and locate up to four Tags: Buttons to assign and locate individual Tags.
- Status Light: Indicates the operational status of the Handset.
- On/Off: Press and hold for 2 seconds to turn the device on or off.
Getting Started
Follow these steps to set up and start using your Tabcat:
1. Activate Handset Battery
Pull out the battery strip on the back of the Handset. The Handset will beep and all lights will flash, indicating it is now ON. The Handset will automatically power off after approximately 40 seconds of inactivity.
2. Register a Tag
- To activate and register a Tag, pull out the white strip on the Tag. It will beep twice and the red light will flash twice.
- Place the Tag you wish to register next to the Handset, ensuring all other Tags are moved away.
- Make sure the Handset is switched on (indicated by a flashing red status light).
- Select one of the buttons on the front of the Handset to assign the Tag to. Hold the button down for 3 seconds until the Handset beeps, then release.
- Tabcat will begin registration, and the status light will flash rapidly. The Tag will complete the registration process.
- Once registered, the Tag and Handset will beep and flash once.
- Repeat this process for up to 4 Tags, assigning each Tag to a different button. Each Tag will beep differently when located, aiding identification.
3. Attach Tag to Collar
Insert the Tag into the splashproof case by pushing it through the hole on the back. Then, attach it directly onto your pet's collar by threading the collar through the two holes on the back of the case. It is recommended to use the provided silicone case for attaching the Tag to your cat's collar. Failure to use the case may result in damage to the Tag. Additional protective cases can be purchased from the website.
Switching On / Off
To Turn On: Hold the right-hand side button for 2 seconds. The Handset will beep and all lights will flash. The status light will flash while the device is on. The Handset powers down automatically after 40 seconds of inactivity.
To Turn Off: Hold the right-hand side button for 2 seconds. The Tabcat will beep and turn off.
Volume
Press the left-hand side button to select from three volume settings: Off, Low, or High. An audio beep will sound when pressed, indicating the current volume level.
Tips
- If a locate button is pressed without an assigned Tag, an error tone will sound, and the status lights will blink rapidly. To assign a Tag, follow the 'REGISTER A TAG' steps.
- When inserting a battery into a Tag, listen to the number of beeps: one beep means it's registered, two beeps mean it's unregistered. No beeps indicate a flat battery or incorrect insertion.
- Range varies by location and environment. Locating from a high vantage point can improve range. Training your cat to come home using Tabcat can help avoid lengthy searches.
- If you cannot pick up your cat's signal, try moving outside your cat's usual territory. Searching by car can also help cover more ground.
Locating - Searching for a Pet
Lost
- Press and hold the ON button for 2 seconds until the Tabcat beeps and lights flash.
- Press the button allocated to your cat's Tag.
- The Tabcat will beep, and the status light will flash rapidly as it searches for the Tag.
- When a Tag is detected, the locating lights will illuminate, and audio will start.
- Hold the Tabcat forward and slowly turn in a full circle.
- As you point in the correct direction and move closer to your cat, the audio pitch and beep frequency will increase, and the Handset lights will change from red to amber, then green, as you get closer.
- Once a circle is completed, face the direction of the strongest audio and visual signal and walk that way.
- Three green lights indicate the Tag is very close.
- To guide you precisely, the Tabcat enters 'zooming in' mode. As you approach in this mode, amber and red lights will also illuminate, and the audio pitch will increase.
Found
To stop a search, press the ON/OFF button or the locate button assigned to your Tag.
Low Battery Warning
- Handset: Status light will flash twice per second.
- Tag: Tag LED will flash and audio will beep once every 10 seconds.
Locating Tips
- Place the Tag on a surface and practice locating it several times to get a feel for its operation.
- If unsure of direction, slowly repeat a 360° circle and move towards the strongest signal.
- The strongest signal is when the Tabcat points directly at the Tag. Try pointing the Handset up and down, as the Tag/cat might be upstairs, downstairs, in a tree, or under a bush.
- If you get a strong signal near a wall, check the adjacent room.
- When close, try turning off the Handset volume to better hear the Tag's beeps.
- If no signal is displayed, move to a different area and repeat the process (see page 6 for tips).
- Train your cat to come home. The Locate button activates a small beep on the Tag. Activate searches before mealtimes so your cat associates the beeps with food. Use this to train your cat to return on demand.

Range Guidelines
The range varies greatly depending on where the Tag is used and what it's attached to. With a clear line of sight (e.g., a cat in a tree), the Tag can be located from over 150m (500 feet). Range is significantly reduced through doors and walls. Actual range can differ due to application type and environment. If no signal is received, continue walking; as soon as you are in range, the Tabcat will pick up the signal and guide you.
Batteries
Tabcat Handheld
If the Tabcat does not power on or lights are faint, replace the battery with a CR2032, ensuring the '+' side faces up. The battery compartment is on the underside of the back. Slide the cover down to open.
Changing Batteries in a Tag
- Use your thumbnail or a flat tool to press into the indentation near the lanyard hole on the Tag's edge, along the split line.
- Slide the tool along the split line towards the middle of the long side to open the Tag.
- Replace batteries with 2x Silver Oxide GP389, SR1130 or similar. Ensure the positive side of the battery nearest the lanyard hole faces up, and the positive side of the other battery faces down.
- Replace the lid by engaging one long side first, then pressing shut. If batteries are correctly inserted, the Tag will beep when the case is closed.
- To test batteries, open the Tag. If it does not beep and flash, replace the batteries. A single beep means registered; two beeps mean unregistered.
General Care
Tabcat Tags are water-resistant but not waterproof. Use with the provided splashproof case for extra protection.
- Never clean with water, detergent, or cleaning agents; use a clean, dry cloth.
- Operating temperature for the Handset and Tags is 0°C to +55°C. Storage temperature is -10°C to +60°C.
- Pet Safety: Ensure the collar is not too loose or tight to prevent rubbing. Owners should know how to fit collars correctly. For your cat's comfort, remove the collar/Tabcat monthly for inspection.
- Product Maintenance: Remove the Tag from its silicone case every three months to check for cat hair inside and inspect the case for damage. Replace if damaged.
Unregister a Tag
Once a Tag is registered, only its assigned button can locate it. To move a Tag to another Handset or button, you must first unregister it.
- Place the Tag to be unregistered next to the Handset, moving all other Tags away.
- Hold down the Volume button and, simultaneously, press the button assigned to the Tag for 3 seconds.
- The Tabcat will beep; release the buttons.
- The Tabcat will beep twice, and the status light will flash rapidly, initiating the unregistration process.
- To confirm successful unregistration, the Tag and Tabcat will beep twice.
Delete a Tag
If a Tag is damaged or lost, it can be permanently deleted, allowing another Tag to be assigned to that button.
- Hold down the Volume button and simultaneously press the button assigned to the Tag for 7 seconds, or until the Tabcat beeps twice, then release the buttons.
- The Tabcat will beep, and the LED will flash.
- To confirm successful deletion, the Tag and Tabcat will beep, and the LED will flash.
Please Note
- The 150-meter / 500-feet range is based on clear line of sight. Actual range depends on usage, environment, and location.
- Tabcat is not a toy and should only be used by adults or with parental supervision.
- The locate mode is designed to help find your cat; it should not be relied upon to find people.
- Tabcat is intended for use according to these instructions.
- CHOKING HAZARD: KEEP LOOSE TAGS OUT OF THE REACH OF YOUNG CHILDREN.
