Important Safety Information
⚠️ This symbol alerts you to important operating or servicing instructions. Always follow basic safety precautions to reduce the risk of injury, fire, or electric shock.
- Read and understand all instructions. Observe all product markings.
- Avoid using the telephone during thunderstorms to prevent electric shock from lightning.
- Do not use near gas leaks. Sparks from plugging in or cradling the handset could ignite flammable gases. Ensure adequate ventilation in such environments.
- Do not use near water or when wet (e.g., basement, shower, near pools, sinks). Do not use liquids or aerosol sprays for cleaning. If liquid contacts the product, unplug immediately and dry thoroughly before reuse.
- Install in a protected location to prevent tripping over cords. Protect cords from damage.
- If the product malfunctions, consult the troubleshooting section of the user manual. Do not open the product except as directed; incorrect reassembly can expose you to hazardous voltages.
- Replace batteries only as described (Page 6). Do not burn or puncture batteries.
- The power adapter is intended for vertical or floor mount. Do not plug into ceiling or under-table outlets.
- For pluggable equipment, the socket-outlet must be near the equipment and easily accessible.

Battery Safety: To prevent fire or explosion, replace batteries with the correct type. Dispose of used batteries properly. Do not use batteries in extreme temperatures, if damaged, or if disposed of in fire. Use only supplied or specified replacement batteries (BT183342/BT283342). Handle rechargeable batteries with care to avoid short circuits; they contain caustic materials.
Cordless Telephone Specifics: Conversations are transmitted via radio waves and may be intercepted. Do not consider cordless conversations as private as corded ones. The base must be plugged into a working electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switch. Interference with TVs/VCRs may occur; keep the base away from them.
Battery Recycling: This product uses Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries. The RBRC Seal indicates participation in a recycling program. Contact 1-800-8-BATTERY for locations.
Pacemaker Precautions: Keep wireless phones at least six inches from pacemakers. Do not place the phone directly over the pacemaker. Use the phone on the ear opposite the pacemaker.
ECO Mode: Reduces power consumption by adjusting transmission power based on handset-to-base distance.
Answering System Recording: This unit does not beep to indicate recording. Inform the other party if you are recording a conversation to comply with regulations.

Installation
Telephone Base
Connect the telephone line cord to the telephone jack or a DSL filter. A DSL filter is required for DSL high-speed internet service (not included).
Charger
Plug the power adapter into a power outlet. Use only the provided adapter.
Battery Installation
Install the battery into the handset by opening the compartment, inserting the battery correctly, and closing the compartment. Charge the handset for 11 hours before initial use; the CHARGE light will be on.
Wall-Mount Installation (Optional)
- Plug the telephone line into the telephone base.
- Align the wall-mount bracket with the wall plate and slide it down to lock.
- Insert the bracket tabs into the back slots of the telephone base and push down until secure.
- Plug the power adapter into a wall outlet (not controlled by a switch) and connect it to the telephone base.
Handset Overview
CHARGE light: Indicates when the handset is charging.
PUSH TO TALK: Initiate one-to-one or one-to-group broadcasts. Press and hold for group broadcasts.
REDIAL/PAUSE/DIR/MENU/SELECT/FLASH/PHONE/OFF/VOLUME/CID/CANCEL:
- REDIAL: View last ten numbers dialed. Press and hold to insert a dialing pause.
- MENU/SELECT: Access the menu when idle. Select items or save settings in the menu.
- FLASH: Make a call, answer a call, or answer a call waiting alert.
- CANCEL/OFF: Hang up a call. Cancel an operation in a menu. Back up to the previous menu. Press and hold to exit the menu. Mute ringer temporarily when ringing. Press and hold to erase missed call indicator.
- DIR: Show directory entries. Move cursor left/right when entering text.
- VOLUME: Adjust listening volume during a call or message playback.
- CID: Show caller ID log. Change case when entering names. Display dialing options.
- TONE: Switch to tone dialing temporarily during a call.
- SPEAKER: Make or answer calls using speakerphone.
- MUTE/DELETE: Mute microphone during a call. Delete digits or characters.
- CALL BLOCK: Block incoming calls when ringing or during a call. Show call block menu when idle.
Handset Display Icons
- Battery Icon Flashing: Battery is low and needs charging.
- Battery Icon Animates: Battery is charging.
- Battery Icon Solid: Battery is fully charged.
- [Speakerphone Icon]: Speakerphone is in use.
- [Mute Icon]: Ringer is turned off.
- VM/New Voicemail: New voicemail from service provider.
- ANS ON/New Messages: Built-in answering system is on; new messages available.
- New in Caller ID Log: Entry being reviewed is new in the caller ID log.
- [Mute Icon]: Microphone is off.
- Time (e.g., 10:30 AM): Displays current time with AM/PM.
- Message Number (e.g., MSG # 10/16): Displays current message playing and total new/old messages.
Telephone Base Overview
- IN USE Indicator: Lights up when the phone is in use, answering an incoming call, or flashes when another phone is in use on the line.
- Message Counter: Shows the number of messages.
- X / DELETE: Delete current message or all old messages.
- ▶ / PLAY/STOP: Start or stop message playback.
- ◀ / REPEAT: Repeat current message or play the previous message.
- ▶ / SKIP: Skip to the next message.
- ▼ / -VOLUME+ / ▲: Adjust base ringer volume (idle mode) or listening volume (playback).
- / ANS ON/OFF: Turn the answering system on or off.
- FIND HS: Page all handsets when the phone is idle.
Initial Basic Settings
After installation or power restoration, the handset prompts for date and time. Skip by pressing OFF/CANCEL.
Voice Guide Setup (Smart Call Blocker & Answering System)
Follow voice prompts to set up Smart Call Blocker (screening options for unknown numbers) and the Answering System (record announcement, set rings, message alert tone). Setup can be skipped using OFF/CANCEL.
Date and Time
Use the handset to set the date and time.
Record Your Own Announcement
Record a custom outgoing announcement for the answering system.
Number of Rings
Set the answering system to answer after 2-6 rings or use Toll Saver (answers after 2 rings with new messages, 4 rings with no new messages).
Ringer Volume
Adjust ringer volume to one of six levels or turn it off.
LCD Language
Select display language (English, Français, Español). Reset to English using MENU then 364#.
Voice Language
(Canada only) Select voice prompts language (English or Français).
Dial Mode
Set to Touch-tone or Pulse dialing.
Temporary Tone Dialing
Switch to tone dialing during a call for services like telephone banking.
Set Speed Dial Voicemail Number
Save your voicemail number for easy access by pressing and holding '1'.
Operation
Making a Call
Press PHONE or SPEAKER, then enter the number.
On-Hook Dialing (Predialing)
Enter the number first, then press PHONE or SPEAKER.
Answering a Call
Press PHONE or SPEAKER, or any dialing keys.
Ending a Call
Press OFF or return the handset to the base/charger.
Handset Speakerphone
Press SPEAKER to switch between handset and speakerphone.
Redial
Press REDIAL to cycle through entries and call.
Volume Control
Use VOLUME buttons to adjust listening volume.
Call Waiting
(Requires service provider subscription) Press FLASH to put a call on hold and answer another; press again to switch between calls.
Directory
Store up to 50 entries shared by all system devices. Add contacts by entering number and name. Search by name or number. Save caller ID entries to the directory.
Bluetooth®
Pairing a Cell Phone and Downloading the Phonebook
Download up to 1,000 phonebook entries from your Bluetooth-enabled cell phone. Keep devices within 15 feet for optimal performance. Ensure your cell phone has coverage and Bluetooth is enabled. Pair by placing the phone next to the base and pressing and holding REPEAT for 4 seconds. Follow prompts on both devices. The download process may take up to 30 minutes.
Canceling/Restarting Download
Cancel by pressing X/DELETE. Restart if an error occurs by repeating the pairing process.
Caller ID
Supports caller ID services, storing the last 50 incoming calls. Information is common to all devices.
Caller ID Announce
The handset/base speaks the caller's name for incoming calls. Can be turned on/off for base and/or handsets.
Review and Dial a Number in the Call Log
Use CID to scroll through the call log and press PHONE/SPEAKER to call.
Delete a Caller ID Log Entry
Use CID to scroll, then press DELETE to remove an entry.
Erase Missed Calls Indicator
The screen shows "XX Missed calls". To clear, review the log or press and hold OFF/CANCEL.
Smart Call Blocker
Filter unknown callers with caller ID service. By default, it allows all calls. Settings can be adjusted to screen specific types of calls.
Call Controls
Welcome Calls: Numbers in allow list, directory, not in block list, or with star name list are allowed through.
Unwelcome Calls: Numbers in the block list are blocked.
Unknown Calls: Can be screened with caller name, screened without caller name, allowed, forwarded to answering system, or blocked.
Uncategorized Calls: Includes calls with absent caller ID, not in directory, not in allow list, not in block list, or with caller ID names not found in star name list. These can be screened, allowed, sent to answering system, or blocked.
Setup Allow, Block, and Star Name Lists
Add numbers from the caller ID log or manually to the block, allow, or star name lists.
Call Block Settings
Configure settings to allow all calls, screen unknown calls, block unknown calls, or block only calls on the block list.
Block Caller While on a Call
During a call, press CALL BLOCK and SELECT to end the call and add the number to the block list.
Unblock a Telephone Number
Access the block list via CALL BLOCK, select Review, browse entries, press DELETE, and confirm to unblock.
Answering System
About Answering System and Voicemail
The system handles messages left on the built-in answering system and at your service provider's voicemail. Refer to Message Playback for built-in messages.

Turn Answering System On or Off
Use MENU -> Answering sys -> Answer ON/OFF to turn the system on or off. The handset displays "ANS ON" when active.
Message Alert Tone
Enables a beep every 10 seconds when new messages are present. Configure via MENU -> Answering sys -> Ans sys setup -> Msg alert tone.
Call Screening
Hear incoming messages being recorded at the base. You can answer the call by pressing PHONE on the handset.
Message Playback
Use /PLAY on the base or MENU twice on the handset to play messages. Adjust volume, stop, skip, repeat, play previous, or delete messages using designated buttons.

FCC Part 68 and ACTA
Complies with FCC Part 68 and ACTA technical requirements. The product identifier (US:AAAEQ##TXXXX) must be provided to your service provider. Use compliant cords and jacks. The Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) determines how many devices can be connected to your line (sum of RENs should not exceed five). Do not use with Party Lines. Ensure alarm equipment is not disabled. Malfunctioning equipment must be unplugged. Service provider may temporarily discontinue service if harm to the network occurs. This product is hearing aid compatible.
Industry Canada
Complies with Industry Canada's licence-exempt RSS. Operation is subject to no interference and acceptance of any interference. Privacy of communications may not be ensured.
FCC Part 15
Tested and found compliant with FCC Part 15 for Class B digital devices. Provides reasonable protection against harmful interference in residential installations. If interference occurs, try reorienting the antenna, increasing separation, or connecting to a different circuit. Changes not approved by the responsible party may void the user's authority to operate.
Limited Warranty
AT&T products have a one-year limited warranty (SynJ®/Syn248® have two years). Warranty service and questions should be directed to https://telephones.att.com or 1 (800) 222-3111 (Canada: 1 (866) 288-4268).
Warranty Coverage: Covers material defects in material and workmanship for products purchased and used in the US and Canada.
Remedy for Defects: Manufacturer will replace defective products with new or refurbished units at their option. Replacement may take approximately 30 days.
Exclusions: Warranty does not cover misuse, accident, damage from repair/alteration by unauthorized personnel, signal/network issues, non-AT&T accessories, removed/altered serial numbers, products purchased/used outside the US/Canada, or commercial/institutional use. Installation/setup charges are not covered.
Obtaining Service: Visit website or call the provided numbers. Check the manual before calling. You assume risk of loss/damage during transit for service.
Other Limitations: This warranty is the entire agreement. No other warranties are expressed. State/Provincial laws may grant additional rights. Implied warranties are limited to one year. Liability for indirect or consequential damages is excluded.
