HALO Remote User Guide
01 BACKFIRE Remote Layout
The Backfire Halo Remote features a comprehensive layout designed for intuitive control of your electric skateboard.
Throttle Wheel: Used for Acceleration, Braking, Preview, and Navigation.
Power Button: Powers the remote ON/OFF, and is used for Menu navigation and selection.
Turbo Button: Activates Turbo Mode, Tank Turn Mode, and accesses the Main Menu.
S/E Button: Switches between Sport Mode, Eco Mode, and accesses the Previous Menu.
Fingerprint Sensor: Enables secure and quick unlocking of the remote.
Forward/Reverse Toggle: Allows switching between forward and reverse motion.
Type-C Charging Port: For charging the remote.
Remote Features:
- A single button powers the board and remote on/off.
- The remote can keep the board in standby mode for up to a day.
- Double-clicking the Power Button activates the board's ambient lights, which change color based on the riding mode.

03 BACKFIRE Dashboard Layout
The dashboard provides essential information at a glance:
- Bluetooth Enabled: Connects to the Backfire APP for firmware updates.
- Cruise Control Enabled: Allows for setting a constant speed.
- Unlocked: Fingerprint unlock is enabled. The remote automatically locks after 6 seconds of inactivity to prevent accidental inputs.
- TRIP: Displays the distance traveled since the board was powered on (e.g., 14 KM).
- ODO: Displays the total distance traveled since the remote was first paired with the board (e.g., 1142 KM).
- Remote Battery Indicator: Shows the remaining charge of the remote.
- Board Battery Indicator: Shows the remaining charge of the electric skateboard.
- Current Speed: Displays the current speed of the board (e.g., 20 KPH).
04 BACKFIRE Pairing Instructions
Powering ON/OFF: Hold the Power Button for 3 seconds.
Pairing: With both the remote and board in the OFF state, hold the Power Button on both simultaneously for 3 seconds to pair.
4WD Configuration: The rear controller (ESC1) must be paired before the front controller (ESC2).
Pairing Process:
- Auto-Pairing: The remote searches for the board's ESC.
- Select 2WD/4WD: Choose the drivetrain configuration. (2WD requires pairing only one ESC).
- ESC Pairing: Hold the Power Button on ESC1 for 3 seconds, then on ESC2 for 3 seconds.
- Unit Selection: Choose between KM and MILES using the Throttle Wheel and confirm with the Power Button.
- Motor Type: Select the drivetrain setup (Belt or Hub).
- Wheel Size: Select the wheel size (e.g., 90MM-200MM).
- Gear Ratio: Select the gear ratio for the drivetrain.
- Pole Pairs: Select the number of pole pairs for the motor configuration (2-26).
- Complete: Pairing and configuration are complete.
Note: The remote and skateboard are pre-paired at the factory.
05 BACKFIRE Ride Modes
The Halo Remote supports multiple ride modes:
- ECO Mode: The default mode after pairing, offering a balanced riding experience.
- Sport Mode: Activated by pressing the S/E Button once. The remote display turns blue/red and vibrates once, providing enhanced performance.
- Turbo Mode: Activated by pressing the Turbo Button once, offering maximum power and speed.
Cruise Control Mode: While riding, press and release the Throttle Wheel after pressing the Power Button to engage Cruise Control.
06 BACKFIRE Battery Status
While the board is stationary, press the Power Button once to access the settings menu:
- Remote Power: Displays remaining remote power, time since power on, and battery capacity.
- Board Power: Displays board voltage, remaining capacity, temperature, and battery health.
- Motor & ESC: Shows motor and ESC temperatures.
- Acceleration/Braking: Allows adjustment of acceleration and braking profiles.
Battery Health Indicators:
- Blue: Healthy
- Red: Unbalanced
If battery cells are unbalanced, contact Backfire Support or use the Backfire Balance Charger.
07 BACKFIRE Advanced Settings
Customize your riding experience through advanced settings:
- Motor & ESC Temperatures: View current temperatures.
- ECO Setting: Adjust Speed, Acceleration, and Brake profiles for ECO Mode.
- Sport Setting: Adjust Speed, Acceleration, and Brake profiles for Sport Mode.
- Turbo Setting: Adjust Speed, Acceleration, and Brake profiles for Turbo Mode.
- Restore Setting: Resets the remote to factory calibrated settings.
08 BACKFIRE Fingerprint Setup
Add and manage fingerprints for secure access:
- Fingerprint Settings: Access options to add or remove fingerprints. Up to 3 fingerprints can be stored.
- Adding a Fingerprint: Place your finger on the sensor until the remote vibrates, then lift and repeat until the status reaches 100%. Multiple calibration cycles ensure reliability.
- Safety Switch: Enables or disables fingerprint unlock.
- Delete Fingerprints: Removes all stored fingerprints. Single fingerprint deletion is not supported.
09 BACKFIRE Restore Factory Settings and Updating Firmware
- Restore Setting: Resets the remote to its factory calibrated settings.
- Firmware Update: Updates the remote's firmware for improved performance and features.
10 BACKFIRE Charging Status
The remote displays various charging statuses:
- Board: Charging, Remote: Charging
- Board: Not Charging, Remote: Charging
- Board: Charging, Remote: Not Charging
- Board: Not Connected, Remote: Charging
- Board: Fully Charged, Remote: Fully Charged
11 BACKFIRE Tank Turn Mode
Engage Tank Turn Mode by pressing the Turbo Button twice. Press the Power Button once to disengage.
Warning: Exercise caution and keep clear of the board when Tank Turn Mode is active, as standing on it may cause serious injury.
12 BACKFIRE Rider Controls
For beginners and children, Backfire recommends wearing protective gear and starting with ECO Mode.
- Acceleration: Gently roll the Throttle Wheel forward in small increments. Lean forward to counteract the torque and prevent falling backward.
- Braking: Lean back when braking to prevent being thrown forward by sudden deceleration.
Ensure your feet are slightly wider than shoulder-width apart and bend your knees to lower your center of gravity for stability.
13 BACKFIRE Malfunctions
The remote may display various error messages:
- DISCONNECTED: Board and Remote are Disconnected.
- Over-Current Protection Active: Indicates excessive current draw.
- Motor Stalled: The motor has stopped rotating.
- Throttle Failure!: Issues with the throttle input.
- Board Over-Voltage!: Voltage detected is too high.
- Throttle Wheel Requires Calibration: The throttle needs recalibration.
- Board Over-Voltage: Similar to the above, indicating high voltage.
- Abnormal Voltage: Voltage outside the normal operating range.
- Battery Cells out of Balance: Indicates an imbalance in battery cell voltages.
- Remote Low Power: Remote battery is critically low (under 5% or 10%).
- Board Low Power: Board battery is critically low (under 25% or 10% or 5%).
- High Temperature Warning: Motor / Battery / ESC: Indicates overheating of motor, battery, or ESC.
- Unlock Failed: Fingerprint authentication failed.
