My Weigh Maestro Digital Kitchen Scale
User Manual: Comprehensive guide to operation, calibration, and features.
Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the My Weigh® Maestro Kitchen Scale. This electronic scale is a precision instrument designed for reliable service with proper care and treatment. For more information, please visit www.myweigh.com.
General Precautions:
- Do not exceed the maximum capacity, as overloading will cause permanent damage.
- Operate the scale at normal room temperature, avoiding extreme heat or cold.
- Maintain a clean environment for the scale. Dust, dirt, moisture, vibration, air currents, and proximity to other electronic equipment can affect accuracy.
- Handle the scale with care. Gently place items on the weighing platform and avoid shaking, dropping, or shocking the scale, as this can damage sensitive sensors and void the warranty.
- Allow the scale to acclimate to normal room temperature for at least one hour before use. Provide 30-60 seconds for internal components to stabilize before calibration.
Precautions Before Using the Balance
- Static electricity can affect accuracy. Discharge static electricity, for example, by using Static-Guard spray on the weighing platform.
- Ensure no objects are on the platform before powering on the scale.
- Place items in the center of the weighing platform for accurate measurements.
- Recalibrate the scale frequently to maintain optimum accuracy.
Power Supply
My Weigh is committed to environmental responsibility. This scale includes an approved AC power adapter to reduce the use of disposable batteries. The scale housing is made from ECM-Earth-Plastic, which is designed to break down faster in landfills.
AC Adapter
The scale can be powered using the included AC adapter (DC 5v 300mA). It is crucial to use only the correct AC adapter for this scale to prevent damage, fire, or injury. Using an incorrect adapter will void your warranty.
Batteries
The scale can also operate on battery power (requires 3 x AA batteries). Low batteries or poor battery connections are a primary cause of scale malfunction and inaccuracy. Use good quality batteries and replace them regularly. If the scale fails to turn on, check battery connections; slightly bending battery prongs may improve contact.
Battery Installation
- Open the battery cover located at the bottom of the unit.
- Insert the batteries, ensuring the polarity (+ and -) is correct.
- Close the battery cover until it clicks shut.
Note: The appearance of a battery symbol on the display indicates low battery power.
Operation Instructions
Weighing Procedures
- Press the [①] button to turn the scale on. Press and hold the [①] button to turn the scale off. After powering on, the scale will countdown and display "0".
- The scale features two display lines: the top line consistently shows weight in grams (g), while the bottom line displays the selected unit.
- Large Platform Weighing (Capacity: 8kg x 1g): Press the [MODE] button to cycle through weighing units such as kg, lb, oz, and lb:oz on the lower display.
- Mini-Tray Weighing (Capacity: 200g x 0.1g): A smaller weighing platform is located on the right side of the scale for more accurate measurements. Extending this tray activates the Mini Tray Mode, disabling the large platform. Press the [MODE] button to cycle through units like oz, ct, dwt, and ozt on the lower display.
- To begin weighing, verify the display reads "0". Place items onto the weighing platform. A stable indicator will appear when the reading is stable.
Tare Function
The Tare function is used to exclude the weight of an empty container. Place an empty container on the scale and press [TARE]. Then, add the items to be weighed into the container. If the container is removed from the scale, the tared value will be displayed as a negative number. Press [TARE] again to reset the scale to zero.
Removable Display & Mini Tray
The scale's display can be detached and positioned separately for user convenience. The integrated mini tray offers a smaller, more precise weighing surface.
- Pull the display panel away from the main scale unit; the display cable will auto-lock into place.
- The display is now separated and ready for use.
- To retract the cable, pull the display and cable towards the left.
- The smaller weighing platform on the right side of the scale is designed for more accurate weighing (Capacity: 200g x 0.1g).
Calibration
Calibration may be required when the scale is first set up, moved to a different altitude or location, or due to mechanical deviations over time. Accurate calibration requires specific weights: a 5kg weight and a 200g weight.
Large Platform Calibration
- Ensure the scale is off. Press and hold both the [MODE] and [①] buttons. Release them when the display shows "CALE".
- Place the 5kg weight onto the platform and press [TARE]. The display will flash and then show "PASS" upon successful calibration.
- The scale will automatically return to normal weighing mode.
Mini Platform Calibration
- Pull out the small mini tray from the side of the scale.
- Ensure the scale is off. Press and hold both the [MODE] and [①] buttons. Release them when the display shows "CALE".
- Place the 200g weight onto the mini platform and press [TARE]. The display will flash and then show "PASS" upon successful calibration.
- The scale will automatically return to normal weighing mode.
Scale Features
Hold Function
Press the [HOLD] button to freeze and display the current weight reading. Press [HOLD] again to cancel the hold function.
Auto Off
An automatic shut-off feature is included to conserve battery power. The display will show "A_OFF" when this feature is enabled.
Weighmeter™
The Weighmeter™ feature is indicated by a series of bars on the display that increase as the load on the scale increases. This feature helps monitor the remaining capacity of the scale and will signal an overload condition. Please use the Weighmeter™ to manage your weighing loads and avoid overloading the scale.
Baker's Percentage Weighing Feature
The Baker's Percentage Weighing Feature provides a simple method for bakers to calculate recipe ingredients as percentages. Flour is designated as the primary ingredient, set at 100%, with all other ingredients calculated in proportion to it. This feature allows recipes to be easily resized.
Example: 1 loaf of bread
Ingredient | Percentage | Equivalent Measurement |
---|---|---|
Flour | 100% | 2 cups |
Water | 65% | 1 1/3 cups |
Butter | 5% | 4 tbsp |
Salt | 2% | 1 tsp |
Yeast | 1% | 1 2/3 tsp |
Milk | 0.75% | 1/2 cup |
How to Use
- Place the bowl on the weighing platform and press [TARE].
- Add the first ingredient (flour) to the bowl.
- Once the flour is weighed and established as 100%, press the [%] button.
- Remove the flour from the scale; the display will show "0%".
- Add the next ingredient; the percentage will increase accordingly until the desired percentage is reached.
- Remove the ingredient and start the next one, repeating this process until all ingredients are weighed.
- Press [TARE] to clear the reading.
Function Settings
Enable or Disable Auto-off
- From the off setting, press and hold the [HOLD] and [①] buttons. Release both keys when the display shows "OFF".
- The display will show "OFF 0" for Auto-Off disabled, "OFF 1" for Auto-Off after 2 minutes, or "OFF 2" for Auto-Off after 5 minutes.
- Press the [MODE] button to toggle between the auto-off settings.
- Press the [TARE] button to confirm the selected setting and move to the next setting.
Weight Response Speed
- The display will show "nb 0" for slowest response, "nb 1" for medium response, or "nb2" for fastest response.
- Press the [MODE] button to toggle between the weight response speed settings.
- Press the [TARE] button to confirm the selected setting and move to the next setting.
Beep Setting
- The display will show "beep 0" for disabled or "beep 1" for enabled.
- Press the [MODE] button to toggle the settings.
- Press the [TARE] button to confirm the setting and return to normal weighing mode.
