Tamiya 51752 Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) RC Car Body
This document provides instructions for assembling and painting the Tamiya 1/10 scale RC Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) polycarbonate body.
General Precautions and Preparation
Important Notes:
- This body features a wheelbase of 251mm (short type).
- Some bodies may be pre-painted or have other work already carried out depending on the product.
- Read and fully understand all instructions before commencing assembly.
- When assembling this kit, tools including knives are used. Extra care should be taken to avoid personal injury.
- Read and follow the instructions supplied with paints and/or cement, if used (not included in kit). Ensure proper ventilation when using these products.
- Keep out of reach of small children. Children must not be allowed to put any parts in their mouths, or pull vinyl bags over their heads. Sensibly dispose of leftover parts immediately.
- Ensure tools are handled with care.
Cutting Out Polycarbonate Body Parts:
Use scissors for straight sections and a modeling knife for curved sections. When using a modeling knife, make multiple passes to score the cut line, then bend and snap off the unwanted area. Keep hands and fingers off of the section being cut, particularly when using a modeling knife.
Making Holes:
- Make a pilot hole in the indicated position using a pin vise and drill bit, etc.
- Enlarge the hole to the desired size using a body reamer.
- Make holes of the sizes shown. Ensure the drill is perpendicular to the target surface.
- Do not make holes when attaching optional wings (sold separately). Refer to the wing's instruction manual for hole placement if attaching an optional wing.
- For 2mm holes, use a pin vise carefully.
- If using an external antenna, make a hole matching the antenna position.
- Make holes on the opposite side in the same manner.
Cleaning the Body:
Wash the body thoroughly with detergent in order to remove any oil, then rinse well and allow to air dry.
Painting the Body
General Painting Instructions:
- This mark denotes Tamiya Color paints.
- Paint the body from the inside using polycarbonate paints.
- When painting in multiple colors, paint darker colors first, then lighter colors.
- Paint plastic parts (side mirrors, etc.) using plastic paints. For plastic parts, paint lighter colors first, then darker colors.
- Refer to the painting instructions on page 3 for detailed steps.
Tamiya Color Paints:
- Polycarbonate Paints: PS-5 Black, PS-23 Gun Metal, PS-31 Smoke
- Plastic Paints: TS-14 Black, TS-29 Semi-Gloss Black
Painting Process (Step-by-Step):
- Cut out masking stickers and mask off window and light areas from the inside of the body.
- Mask off areas to be painted other than Black (PS-5) using masking tape (sold separately).
- Paint the body from the inside using Black (PS-5). Apply thin layers of spray paint 2-3 times, keeping a distance of about 30cm from the body.
- After the black paint has dried, remove masking tape and paint the body with Gun Metal (PS-23).
- When the paint has dried, remove masking stickers from window areas, then paint windows with Smoke (PS-31) if desired.
- Remove remaining masking stickers and the protective film from the outside of the body.
Painting Body Parts:
Wash parts thoroughly with detergent and allow to air dry. Paint the side without protective film. After painting, remove the protective film from the painted surface.
Applying Stickers (Markings)
General Sticker Application:
- Remove protective film before applying stickers.
- Apply stickers in numbered order.
- Cut out stickers as close as possible to the printed edges. Cut out numbered stickers in the order they are applied to prevent confusion.
- When applying stickers, slightly peel away one end of the lining and position the sticker on the body.
- Slowly remove the remaining lining while checking sticker position. Do not completely remove lining prior to application as this may cause unwanted air bubbles and creases.
- Stickers in parentheses are recommended for use with different body colors.
Specific Sticker Placement:
Refer to the diagrams on page 4 for the exact placement of numbered stickers on the body, headlights, rear wing, and wing plates.
Assembly
Attaching Headlights:
Use double-sided tape (transparent) to attach the headlight parts to the body. Refer to diagrams for tape placement.
Attaching Side Mirrors:
Secure side mirrors using snap pins and O-rings as shown. Apply stickers to the mirror parts and cut as indicated. Use double-sided tape (black) for attachment.
Rear Wing Assembly:
Assemble the rear wing components including the wing flap, wing plates, and rear wing. Use screws, nuts, washers, O-rings, and double-sided tape as indicated. Attaching the wing flap adds downforce and increases rear grip; its height can be adjusted to fine-tune downforce.
Attaching Body:
Pass the antenna pipe through the body. Attach the body to the chassis using snap pins. Ensure the snap pin positions allow the body to clear the tires and track surface. Trim body mounts as needed.
