Wiring Instructions
WARNING — SHOCK HAZARD: Turn OFF the power to the branch circuit for the switch and lighting fixture at the service panel. All wiring connections must be made with the POWER OFF to avoid personal injury and/or damage to the switch.
This device is intended for installation in accordance with the National Electric Code and local regulations in the United States or the Canadian Electrical Code and local regulations in Canada.
Step 1: Shut off power
- Shut off power to the circuit at the circuit breaker or fuse box.
- IMPORTANT! Verify power is OFF to the switch box before continuing.
Step 2: Remove existing switches
- Remove both wallplates.
- Remove the switch mounting screws.
- Carefully remove the switch from each switch box location. DO NOT disconnect the wires yet.
Step 3: Identify switches and wires
- Line Switch (Primary Switch): Identify the switch connected to the fuse box. Label the wire connected to the common terminal “LINE.”
- Load Switch (Add-on Switch): Identify the switch connected to the lighting/fixture. Label the wire connected to the common terminal “LOAD.”
Step 4: Wiring the Line Switch (Primary Switch)
This involves replacing a standard switch with the Enbrighten primary switch.
- Disconnect all wires on the existing switch.
- Locate neutral wires inside the switch box (typically a bundle of white wires). Remove the wire nut securing them (A).
- Connect the included jumper wire to the neutral wires and secure with a wire nut (A).
- Connect the opposite end of the jumper wire to the NEUTRAL terminal on the primary switch (B).
- Connect the wire labeled “LINE” to the LINE terminal on the primary switch (C).
- Connect the ground wire (bare/copper/green) to the GROUND terminal on the primary switch (D).
- Connect one of the two remaining wires (T1) to the LOAD terminal on the primary switch (E). Write down the color of this wire; you will need it for the add-on switch installation.
- Connect the remaining wire (T2) to the TRAVELER terminal on the primary switch (F).
Step 5: Wiring the Load Switch (Add-on Switch)
This involves replacing a standard switch with the Enbrighten add-on switch.
- Disconnect all wires on the existing switch.
- Locate neutral wires inside the switch box (typically a bundle of white wires). Remove the wire nut securing them (AA).
- Connect the included jumper wire to the neutral wires and secure with a wire nut (AA).
- Connect the opposite end of the jumper wire to the NEUTRAL terminal on the add-on switch (BB).
- Connect the ground wire (bare/copper/green) to the GROUND terminal on the add-on switch (CC).
- Locate the wire color you noted in Step 4 (T1). Using a wire nut, secure it only to the wire connected to the “LOAD” terminal on the existing switch.
- Connect the remaining wire to the TRAVELER terminal on the add-on switch (DD). This wire should be the same color as the wire connected to the TRAVELER terminal on the primary switch.
Step 6: Attach switches to boxes
- Place both switches into their respective switch boxes, being careful not to pinch or crush wires.
- Secure each switch to the box using the supplied screws.
- Mount each switch wallplate.
- Reapply power to the circuit at the fuse box or circuit breaker and test the system.
