ENERGY RECOVERY VENTILATION
Thank you for purchasing the AprilAire Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV). This ERV is designed to remove indoor air pollution and supply fresh air to your home. Growing evidence suggests indoor air quality can be compromised, with people spending approximately 90% of their time indoors breathing potentially polluted, stale, recirculated air. This can pose health risks, as cumulative effects from multiple pollutant sources can be significant. Your ERV actively works to provide a supply of fresh air and remove indoor air pollution.
The AprilAire Energy Recovery Ventilator utilizes indoor stale exhaust air to precondition incoming fresh air, adapting to seasonal needs. During the heating season, the core's cross-flow design pre-heats incoming cool, fresh air using warm, stale exhaust air, thereby reducing the energy required by the heating system for comfort maintenance.
Similarly, during the summer, this process removes heat and moisture from incoming air. The ERV ensures a comfortable and healthy indoor environment year-round with minimal maintenance and quiet operation.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
The Energy Recovery Ventilator features a three-position speed switch. Settings 'I' or 'II' establish continuous operation, while 'STANDBY/OFF' mode is also available. Turning the on/off switch to 'I' provides a constant supply of fresh air to your home.
ERV operation can be scheduled using an AprilAire Thermostat with IAQ Control or an AprilAire Model 8120X Ventilation Control. Consult your installing contractor for details on the AprilAire Thermostat with IAQ Control. For external control, set the speed switch to the STANDBY/OFF mode.
MAINTENANCE
- Unplug the unit before opening the access panel and performing maintenance.
- Dirty filters impede air resistance and reduce airflow. Clean or replace filters at least 3 to 4 times per year. Clean filters with running water or a vacuum cleaner. Ensure filters are completely dry before reinstallation.
- To maintain high heat exchange efficiency, regular cleaning of the core is essential. Remove the two screws securing the core and pull it out. Gently clean air passages using a vacuum with a soft brush attachment. Water may also be used for cleaning if necessary. Avoid sharp objects, abrasive detergents, or aggressive solvents, as they can damage the core. Ensure the core is dry before reinstalling it.
- Inspect outdoor intake and exhaust vents every six months and clean as needed.
- Check blower compartments for debris buildup every six months and vacuum/clean if necessary. The blower motor requires no maintenance.
