Tripp Lite Replacement Battery Cartridge (RBC) Owner's Manual
Introduction
Congratulations on your new, long-lasting, high-performance Replacement Battery Cartridge (RBC). Properly selected, it is designed to extend your UPS system's life. All RBCs are valve-regulated and spill-proof, requiring no special handling. Their cases, constructed of ABS plastic, styrene, or polypropylene, are non-conductive and offer high resistance to shock, vibration, chemicals, and heat. Advanced design techniques and high-quality plate production processes result in batteries with extremely high energy density and superior power-to-volume and power-to-weight ratios. RBCs are certified to provide:
- Compatibility with all UPS systems, when properly selected
- Completely maintenance-free operation
- Economical pricing
- Rugged construction for long service life
- High discharge rate with deep discharge recovery
- Wide operating temperature range
Important Safety Instructions
WARNING! Read before attempting battery replacement. This manual contains important instructions and warnings that should be followed during the installation and operation of all RBCs.
WARNING!
- Follow the original UPS system manufacturer's instructions and safety information thoroughly before attempting replacement.
- To eliminate high-voltage shock hazard, ensure the UPS system is turned OFF and the power cord is unplugged from the AC outlet prior to battery replacement. Consult your UPS system's owner's manual for guidance on 'hot swap' procedures if permitted.
- Do not dispose of batteries in a fire; they may explode.
- Do not open or mutilate the battery. Released chemicals are harmful to the skin or eyes and may be toxic. Follow first-aid procedures for chemical burns in the event of exposure. Use appropriate protective clothing when handling a leaking battery.
- A battery can present a risk of high current in the event of a short circuit. High discharge can lead to severe burns and/or the risk of fire. Observe the following precautions when working around high-capacity storage batteries:
- Remove watches, rings, or other metal objects that might come in contact with battery terminals.
- Use tools with an insulated handle.
- Do not lay tools or metal parts on top of the battery or near the terminals.
Battery Replacement
After following the safety procedures listed above:
- Disconnect the UPS system from the power source.
- Open the battery compartment.
- Disconnect and recycle used batteries. Connect new RBCs. Note: To properly reconnect multiple batteries, first take note of battery position and cable connections by drawing a sketch before disconnection.
- Close the battery compartment.
UPS and Battery Recycling
Eaton recommends recycling old UPS systems and batteries to support a cleaner, more sustainable environment. Please refer to your local codes for disposal requirements.

Additional RBC Selection
When you replace an old, depleted UPS battery with a genuine Eaton battery, you can extend your UPS system's runtime by up to 30%. Compared to many third-party batteries, Eaton replacement batteries offer longer runtimes and the assurance of quality and reliability that only a UPS industry leader can deliver.
Eaton provides a wide range of additional RBCs. Consult https://tripplite.eaton.com/products/battery-finder for the most popular battery recommendations.
When making your selection, whether or not your manufacturer and/or UPS system model number is listed, it is prudent to verify the following information:
- Battery voltage* [example, 12V (Volts)]
- Battery capacity* when optimally charged [example, 7.2Ah (Amp Hours)]
- Battery dimensions**
- Battery quantity***
* Usually marked on the battery.
** This is important because manufacturers sometimes change battery content without changing model numbers.
*** In multiple battery systems, manufacturers recommend that all batteries be replaced at the same time.
Eaton has a policy of continuous improvement. Specifications are subject to change without notice.
