With the SYSTEM or MODE control set to COOL, your unit will run in cooling mode until the indoor temperature is lowered to the selected level. On extremely hot days, your unit will run for longer periods with shorter "off" periods than on moderate days.
Heating Mode (if installed with optional electric heat)
If your system is equipped with an electric heating source, set the MODE control to HEAT. Your system will automatically turn on the supplemental heat to maintain your selected comfort level.
Maintenance and Service
This section discusses maintenance. Most maintenance should be performed by your dealer. Some minor maintenance may be handled by the owner.
Routine Maintenance
All routine maintenance should be handled by skilled, experienced personnel. Your dealer can help establish a standard procedure. Ensure that the flow of condenser air is not obstructed. Maintain clearances: 48 in. (1219 mm) from the top, 36 in. (914 mm) from sides (except power entry side: 42 in. [1067 mm]), and 12 in. (305 mm) minimum from the duct side.
Maintenance and Care for the Equipment Owner
WARNING: FIRE, EXPLOSION, ELECTRICAL SHOCK AND CUT HAZARD
Failure to follow this warning could result in personal injury, death or property damage.
- TURN OFF ELECTRICAL POWER TO YOUR UNIT BEFORE SERVICING OR PERFORMING MAINTENANCE.
- When removing access panels or performing maintenance functions, be aware of sharp sheet metal parts and screws. Wear safety glasses, gloves, and appropriate protective clothing.
Air Filters
Check air filters every 3 or 4 weeks and change or clean when dirty. Dirty filters stress the blower motor and can cause overheating. This unit requires air filters to be in place during operation. Filters can be in wall/ceiling grilles or in an accessory filter rack inside the unit.
Filter Replacement (Accessory Filter Rack):
Small Chassis (See Fig. 3):
- Remove the return air duct cover at the rear of the unit using a 5/16-in. nut driver.
- Pull out the filter(s). If dirty, replace with new ones. When installing new filters, ensure airflow arrows point towards the indoor coil.
- Reinstall the duct cover, ensuring it is air and water tight.
Large Chassis (See Fig. 4):
- Remove the filter access door using a 5/16-in. nut driver.
- Pull out the filter(s). If dirty, replace with new ones. For units with bent indoor coils, install the 24 x 18 x 1 (610 x 457 x 25 mm) filter first, then the 24 x 16 x 1 (610 x 406 x 25 mm) filter. When installing new filters, ensure airflow arrows point towards the indoor coil.
- Reinstall the filter access door, ensuring it is air and watertight.

If you have difficulty locating air filters or have questions about filter maintenance, contact your dealer. Always use the same size and type of filter originally supplied.
CAUTION: UNIT OPERATION HAZARD
Failure to follow this caution may result in property damage. Never operate your unit without filters in place. Dust and lint accumulation can cause loss of efficiency and damage the blower motor and/or compressor.
Fans and Fan Motors
Periodically check fan wheels, housings, and fan-motor shaft bearings. Contact your dealer for required annual maintenance.
Indoor and Outdoor Coils
Cleaning of coils should only be done by qualified service personnel. Contact your dealer for required annual maintenance.
Condensate Drain
The drain pan and condensate drain line should be checked and cleaned concurrently with the cooling coils.
Compressor
Compressors are factory shipped with a normal charge of refrigeration grade oil. They rarely require additional oil.
Troubleshooting
Before you call for service...
Check for easily-solved problems.
If insufficient heating or cooling is suspected:
- Check for sufficient airflow. Check the air filter for dirt. Check for blocked return-air or supply-air grilles. Ensure they are open and unobstructed. If the cause is not found, call your servicing dealer.
If your unit is not operating at all:
- Ensure the temperature specified by your User Interface is set correctly for the season (below indoor temperature for cooling, above for heating) and the system is not set to OFF.
- If the unit still fails to operate, call your servicing dealer for troubleshooting and repairs. Provide the model and serial numbers of your unit.
In Case of Trouble
If, after performing the above steps, unit performance is still unsatisfactory, shut off the unit and call your dealer.
Regular Dealer Maintenance
Your unit should be inspected regularly by a properly trained service technician (annually, or at least every other year). Inspections should include:
- Inspection and cleaning of outdoor and indoor coils.
- Inspection and cleaning of the indoor coil drain pan.
- Inspection and cleaning of the blower wheel housing and motor.
- Inspection of supply-air and return-air ducts for leaks, obstructions, and insulation integrity. Resolve any problems found.
- Inspection of the unit base for cracks or gaps that may cause a hazardous condition.
- Inspection of the unit casing for signs of deterioration.
- Inspection of all electrical wiring and components for proper connection.
- Inspection for leaks in the refrigerant circuit. Perform a pressure check to determine the correct refrigerant charge.
- Inspection of compressor oil level by the service person to ensure proper oil level when the unit is installed and running.
- Operational check of the unit to determine working conditions. Perform repairs or adjustments as needed.
Your servicing dealer may offer a service contract for seasonal inspections. Ask for details. Complete service instructions are in the unit Installation, Start-up and Service Instructions.
Warranty Certificate
Your unit has a limited warranty. Read the warranty carefully to understand its coverage.
