Procedure for Typical Use on an Outdoor Grill
This example demonstrates setting an alert for a medium-cooked beef steak and a reminder to rotate hot dogs.
- Turn on the grill.
- Follow the synchronization/pairing procedure.
- Place the steak and hot dogs on the grill rack.
- Insert the probe sensor into the thickest part of the steak, avoiding bone or heavy fat. Assume an initial meat temperature of 45°F (7°C).
- Position the probe wire so it does not contact flames and exits the grill without being pinched by the cover.
- Place the transmitter away from the grill's heat source. Do not place it on or under the grill cover. The transmitter is not waterproof and should not be used in the rain.
- Press [MEAT button] until "BEEF" is displayed.
- Press [TASTE button] until "MEDIUM" is displayed. "150°F" will show as TEMP SET.
- Press [MODE button] to switch to timer mode.
- Press [MIN button] five times to set the timer for 5 minutes (display shows "0:05"). Press [START/STOP button] to start the countdown.
- Press [MODE button] to return to thermometer mode.
- The receiver can be used up to 300 ft (91m) away from the grill. You can go indoors.
- When the 5-minute timer expires, the receiver will beep for 60 seconds.
- When the steak reaches 150°F (66°C), the receiver will beep.
- Press [STOP button] to deactivate the alert.
- Turn off the grill. Remove the probe sensor from the steak. Always wear heat-resistant gloves when handling the probe or wire during or after cooking. Do not touch with bare hands.
- Clean the stainless steel probe and dry thoroughly after each use.
- Turn off the transmitter and receiver.
Helpful Hints and Cautions
Helpful Hints
- If the receiver or transmitter displays "LLL" or "HHH" instead of the probe temperature, wait for the probe to reach room temperature. If the issue persists, the internal probe wire may be shorted due to moisture or heat damage.
- Do not immerse the probe or probe wire in water. Clean with a damp, soapy cloth.
- Do not allow the probe or wire to contact flames. Use medium or low heat if the grill cover is closed.
- If the probe is defective within the 90-day warranty period, return it with your address for a free replacement.
- If the displayed temperature seems too high or rises too quickly, check if the probe tip is protruding from the food. Reposition the tip to the center of the thickest part, avoiding bone or fat.
