This document provides instructions for the INKBIRD IBS-M2 WiFi Gateway.
1. Product Introduction
The IBS-M2 Wi-Fi Gateway is designed to work with INKBIRD Bluetooth/wireless thermometers and hygrometers, functioning either independently or in conjunction with them.
Device Overview: The gateway features a display showing current readings. The 'IN' section displays internal temperature and humidity, while the 'OUT' section displays readings from a connected sub-device (e.g., 'OUT 3'). The display also shows Wi-Fi signal strength and battery level indicators. Key components are:
- Gateway Wi-Fi Signal: Indicates the strength of the Wi-Fi connection.
- Action Buttons: Physical buttons on the device for control.
- Current temperature detected by the gateway: The internal temperature reading.
- Current humidity detected by the gateway: The internal humidity reading.
- Temperature-and-humidity type icon of the gateway sub-device: An icon representing the type of sensor connected.
- Current channel number of the gateway sub-device: The identifier for the connected sensor (e.g., CH1, CH2).
- Battery level of the gateway sub-device: Indicates the battery status of the connected sensor.
- Current humidity detected by the gateway sub-device: The humidity reading from the connected sensor.
- Current temperature detected by the gateway sub-device: The temperature reading from the connected sensor.
The INKBIRD Wi-Fi Gateway connects to your mobile network, allowing all synchronized devices to be managed via the INKBIRD app.

3. App Connection
3.1 Download the INKBIRD App
The INKBIRD Wi-Fi Gateway requires the INKBIRD app for management. Ensure your device meets the following requirements:
- iOS Devices: Must be running iOS 10.0 or above.
- Android Devices: Must be running Android 4.4 or above.
- Wi-Fi: The device supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi routers only.
3.2 Registration
To use the INKBIRD app, you need to register an account:
- Open the app and select your Country/Region. A verification code will be sent to you.
- Enter the received verification code to confirm your identity and complete the registration.
3.3 Connect to your phone
Follow these steps to connect the gateway to your phone:
- 3.3.1 Add Device: Open the app and tap the ➕ icon to add a new device. Select 'IBS-M2' from the list.
- 3.3.2 Power On: Connect the gateway to a USB power supply and ensure it is powered on. Click 'Next Step' to proceed.
- 3.3.3 Wi-Fi Setup: Select your Wi-Fi network from the available list and enter the password if required. Click 'Next Step'.
- 3.3.4 Pairing Mode: Press and hold the ? button on the gateway for 5 to 8 seconds until the Wi-Fi indicator flashes. This puts the device into pairing mode. Click 'Next Step'.
- 3.3.5 Device Scan: Your phone will automatically scan for the device. Once found, click 'Next Step'.
- 3.3.6 Pairing: The device will automatically pair with the network.
- 3.3.7 Success: Pairing is successful.
Troubleshooting: If pairing fails, unplug the power supply, restart the device, and repeat steps 3.3.1 through 3.3.6.
3.4 Reset the Wi-Fi Network
To reset the Wi-Fi network configuration on the gateway, press and hold the ? button for 5~8 seconds.
3.5 Main Interface of INKBIRD App
The INKBIRD app interface displays the gateway's status and connected devices. Key elements include:
- Device Status: Shows the gateway name (e.g., 'IBS-M2 Online').
- Current Readings: Displays current temperature (e.g., 32.6°C) and humidity (e.g., 55.5%) from the gateway or connected sub-devices.
- Navigation Icons:
- ➕ (top right): Go to add sub-devices.
- Menu icon (bottom left): Access settings.
- Graph icon (bottom right): View historical data graphs.
3.6 Add Sub-Devices
To add temperature and humidity sensors (sub-devices) to the gateway:
- Ensure the gateway host is powered on and connected to the app (refer to step 3.2).
- Install batteries in the sub-device and power it on. Place the sub-device close to the gateway host for optimal connection.
- In the app, navigate to the 'add sub-devices' section. Select the relevant device to add. The sub-device will automatically connect and its channel number will be displayed.
Troubleshooting: If adding a device fails, remove the sub-device's batteries, wait a moment, and repeat steps b and c.
4. Action Button Instructions
The gateway has three main buttons:
- Wi-Fi Button ?: Press and hold for 5 seconds to reset the Wi-Fi connection and initiate network pairing.
- °C/°F Button ?️: Press this button to toggle the temperature display unit between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F).
- CH/R Button:
- Press to cycle through connected channels (CH1 to CH9). The screen will display the temperature reading for the selected channel. If CH0 is selected, it cycles through all channels, displaying each for 3 seconds.
- Press and hold for 5 seconds to reset the registration of all connected sub-devices (transmitters). For successful reconnection, ensure sub-devices are placed close to the gateway before re-adding them via the app.
5. Safeguards
- Do not attempt to disassemble the product unless you are a qualified professional.
- Ensure the sensor is kept clean and free from dust to maintain accurate measurements.
- Avoid using alcohol to clean the sensor, as it may cause damage.
6. Product Warranty
This product comes with a 1-year warranty covering defects in components and workmanship. INKBIRD will repair or replace defective products free of charge at its discretion during the warranty period.
7. FCC Requirement
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to two conditions:
- The device must not cause harmful interference.
- The device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.
Note on Interference: This equipment has been tested and complies with Class B digital device limits according to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in residential installations. The device generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy. Improper installation or use may cause interference to radio communications. While no guarantee is made against interference in a specific installation, if interference occurs, users are encouraged to try the following corrective measures:
- Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
- Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.
- Connect the equipment to a different circuit than the receiver.
- Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician.
This equipment also complies with FCC radiation exposure limits for uncontrolled environments. It should be installed and operated with at least 20cm separation between the radiator and the user's body. The transmitter must not be co-located or operated with any other antenna or transmitter.
