- Do not turn off the camera's power.
- Do not remove the memory card.
- Do not remove the battery.
- Do not detach the lens.

Preparation Before Updating
- Fully charge the battery and insert it into the camera.
- If other firmware is saved on the memory card, delete unnecessary files.
- It is recommended to back up all images saved on the memory card before formatting the camera. (Caution: Data loss! Formatting deletes all data and cannot be undone.)

- Download the latest firmware.
- Save the firmware to the memory card. Firmware files must be saved in the root directory of the memory card; lower directories may not be read.

Formatting Storage (Initialization)
Residual image data (temporary shooting information) can occupy storage space, so periodic formatting is recommended. You can format the inserted SD card and internal memory separately.
Important:
- Do not turn off the power during formatting.
- Formatting deletes all data and cannot be undone. Images marked with a specific symbol will also be deleted.
- To prevent data loss, regularly back up your photos to an external hard drive or computer.
Securely Formatting Internal Memory (SECURE ERASE)
Formatting internal memory deletes long-accumulated residual data and quickly frees up memory space.
Process:
- Select Storage Management from the Main Menu.
- Select Memory Format.
- Select Format Internal Memory (Secure).
- Confirm.
Memo
- Quick format only makes existing files inaccessible. With appropriate software, data may be recoverable under specific circumstances. Images overwritten by new images are completely erased. To completely and irrecoverably delete all images and personal data, select Format Internal Memory (Secure). This process can take up to 75 minutes.
- If using memory cards formatted on other devices (e.g., computers), always format them in the camera first.
- For Leica M11-D, secure formatting can be performed via the Leica FOTOS app.
