Telstra Touchfone® 400

User Instructions

Congratulations on choosing the Telstra Touchfone® 400. To obtain full benefit from the telephone, please read these instructions and keep them handy for future reference.

PACKAGE CONTENTS

The Touchfone 400 package contains:

INSTALLING YOUR TOUCHFONE 400

Plug the long straight end of the handset cord into the H/S socket on the base of the telephone and plug the other end into the socket in the handset. Plug the line cord into the LINE socket on the base of the telephone and plug into any telephone socket.

Note: The Handset Hook is for use when wall mounting the telephone. The Telstra wall mount kit is available for purchase from retail outlets.

INITIALISING THE TOUCHFONE 400

Before your Touchfone 400 can be used, it needs to be initialised. Lift the handset and when you have dial tone, replace handset.

RINGER VOLUME

The ringer volume can be adjusted using the keypad in two ways (Refer to Memory Card):

  1. By lifting the handset and pressing the “Max” or “Min” button.
  2. Pressing and holding the “Max” or “Min” button while the phone is ringing.

TO MAKE A CALL

Lift handset and dial the number.

LAST NUMBER REDIAL

To redial the last number dialled, lift handset and press [Redial].

SAVING LAST NUMBER REDIAL

To save the last number dialled, lift handset, press [Store] followed by the memory key of your choice.

STORING NUMBERS

To store a number in memory, lift handset, press [Store], dial the number to be stored (Press [3-Way Chat] to include a pause) and press the memory key of your choice.

DIALLING STORED NUMBERS

Lift handset and press the memory key of the number you wish to call.

PABX FEATURES

Please note, if you are using your Touchfone as a PABX extension, the Telstra network features will not be available. PABX features can be programmed onto memory keys (see "STORING NUMBERS" above).

TELSTRA HOMELINETM FEATURES

There is a range of network features available from Telstra, that make your telephone easier, faster and more convenient to use. Touchfone 400 provides single button operation of Call Waiting, Call Forward, 3-Way Chat, Call Back Busy and Call Return. For further information on these features please call 1800 052 052.

CALL WAITING

Call Waiting lets you answer a second call while placing your first caller on hold.

To Turn on Call Waiting:

Lift handset and listen for dial tone. Press [Store] then [Call Wait]. Listen for facility tone and replace handset.

To Answer Call Waiting:

Press [Call Wait] when beeps are heard.

To Alternate Between Calls:

Press [Call Wait].

To Release the Active Caller:

Press [Cancel].

To Turn Off Call Waiting:

Press [Cancel] then [Call Wait] and replace handset.

CALL FORWARD

Call Forward allows you to forward calls immediately, on busy and on no answer, to any other phone, including mobiles. The Touchfone 400 is preset to Call Forward Immediate. Note: Forwarded calls are charged at standard carrier rates eg. local, STD etc.

To Set One Call Forward Type:

Lift handset and listen for dial tone. Press [Store], then [1] for forward Immediate OR [2] for Forward on Busy OR [3] for Forward on No Answer, then press [Call Fwrd].

To Establish Call Forward:

Lift handset, press [Call Fwrd], dial number, press [Call Fwrd] again, and replace handset.

To Cancel One Type of Call Forward:

Lift handset, press [Cancel], press [1], [2] or [3], press [Call Fwrd] and replace handset. Repeat process if required.

3-WAY CHAT*

3-Way Chat lets you place one caller on hold, while making another call. You can even connect all calls in a 3-Way Chat.

* (3-Way Chat referred to as Conf on some Touchfones.)

To Call Another Person While On a Call:

Press [Recall] and dial required number. If not answered press [Cancel] to return to the original caller.

To have a 3-Way Chat While on a Call:

Press [Recall] and dial required number. When the person answers press [3-Way Chat] to establish the 3-Way Chat.

CALL BACK BUSY

With the "Call Back/ Return" button you can automatically call back an engaged call.

To Arrange Call Back Busy to a Busy Number:

When you hear busy tone Press [Call Back/ Return].

CALL RETURN

Call Return lets you retrieve the number of your last unanswered caller. To hear your caller's number lift handset and press [Call Back/ Return]. If you wish to return the call dial 1.

PLACING THE MEMORY CARD ON YOUR PHONE

1. Tear out memory card (below).

2. Lift clear cover (as shown at left).

3. Insert memory card on telephone as shown.

4. Replace clear cover.

MESSAGEBANK®

Customers who have subscribed to a Telstra MessageBank® voice mail service, can store their access numbers in the bottom left memory key. The memory card has been labelled for this purpose to allow one touch access to the MessageBank service. Refer to MessageBank user guide for further details.

HEARING AID COMPATIBILITY

The Touchfone 400 provides a magnetic coupling in the handset suitable for use with hearing aids fitted with a T position switch.

CARE OF THE TELEPHONE

The Touchfone 400 can be relied on for many years of service if treated correctly. Here are a few tips:

COMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER TELEPHONES

Although the Touchfone 400 uses the latest in telephone technology it may not be possible to always talk on a second extension telephone of a different type at the same time.

RENTAL TELEPHONE FAULTS

If this phone is rented from Telstra, report any service difficulties or faults by dialling 13 2203 for residential customers or by local reporting arrangements for Business customers.

PURCHASED TELEPHONE

If this is a purchased telephone, for any problems arising after following all the instructions in this User Guide, please call the Product Information Hotline.

WARRANTY

If there is a fault in the purchased Touchfone® 400 please follow the procedures detailed on the product Warranty Card. A repair service is available for products not eligible for warranty replacement.

WARNING:

Do not use the telephone during an electrical storm as it is possible to get a shock. Refer to the Telstra White Pages Pages for further information. The handset must be left in place during an electrical storm to prevent damage to the telephone.
