Carrying Capacity and Load Limits

Maximum system load capacity (including system weight) is detailed on the Pioneer fit sheet. Always check your vehicle owner's handbook for the vehicle's maximum carrying capacity and use the lower figure. Load must be evenly distributed.

Definitions:

  • Off Road: Any path not paved with tar/bitumen.
  • Vehicle Load Limit (VLL): Total permissible weight on the vehicle's roof, including the rack system.
  • System Load Limit: Total permissible weight on the roof racks while the vehicle is in motion.

Refer to the "Pioneer Vehicle Fitting Information" table for specific vehicle load limits and other details.

Torque Settings

Unless otherwise stated, use the following torque settings:

  • M6 fasteners: 4-5 Nm (3-4 lbs/ft)
  • M8 fasteners: 8-10 Nm (6-7.5 lbs/ft)
  • M10 fasteners: 16-18 Nm (12-13 lbs/ft)

Warnings

  • Ensure the part number/kit is correct for your vehicle.
  • Do not attempt installation without fully understanding these instructions. Contact your dealer for questions.
  • Off-road conditions can be more rigorous than standard testing (AS1235-2000 / ISO 11154). Exercise extreme care.
  • Remove roof racks before entering an automatic car wash.
  • For utility vehicles, ensure items are rigidly fixed to either the cabin roof racks or the canopy roof racks, not across both, as cabin and canopy movement differs.
  • Always fasten loads securely.
  • Use only non-stretch fastening ropes or straps.

In-Service Maintenance Checks

  • Check all bolted connections after a short distance post-installation.
  • Check bolted connections regularly (weekly recommended, depending on conditions).
  • Check bolted connections each time they are refitted.
