TO MINIMIZE THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY
EARTHING THE APPLIANCE
DANGER
Risk of electric shock
Touching some internal components can cause serious personal injury or death. Do not dismantle the appliance.
WARNING
Risk of electric shock
Improper use of earthing can cause electric shock. Do not plug the power cord into the mains socket if the appliance is not properly installed and earthed. The appliance must be earthed. In case of an electrical short circuit, earthing reduces the risk of electric shock by providing a conductor for the current.
This appliance has a cable with an earth wire and an earth plug. The plug must be inserted into a properly installed and earthed mains socket.
If you are not completely sure about the earthing instructions or the correct earthing of the appliance, consult a qualified electrician or service technician. If an extension cord is necessary, use only a 3-core extension cord.
1. The power cord is short to reduce the risk of entanglement or tripping over a longer cord.
2. If using an appliance with a long power cord or an extension cord:
- The electrical rating of the supplied power cord or extension cord must be at least equal to the electrical rating of the appliance;
- The extension cord must be a 3-core, earthed type cord;
- The long cord must be routed so that it does not hang over the counter or tabletop where it can be pulled by children or accidentally tripped over.
CLEANING
The appliance must be disconnected from the power supply.
- After use, the oven cavity should be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth.
- Clean accessories in the usual way with soapy water.
- The door frame and seal, as well as adjacent parts, should be carefully wiped with a damp cloth when they are dirty.
- When cleaning the oven door glass, do not use aggressive abrasive cleaning agents or sharp metal scrapers, as they can scratch the surface and cause the glass to break.
- Cleaning Tip: To make it easier to clean the oven cavity walls that come into contact with food: place half a lemon in a bowl, add 300 ml (1/2 pint) of water, and heat for 10 minutes at 100% microwave power. Wipe the oven clean with a soft dry cloth.
KITCHEN UTENSILS
CAUTION!
Risk of personal injury
It is dangerous for persons other than specialists to perform maintenance or repair on the appliance that involves removing covers, as these protect against microwave energy exposure.
Refer to the instructions in the section "Materials allowed in microwave ovens or to be avoided". These may include non-metallic kitchen utensils whose use in microwave exposure is not safe. If in doubt, you can test the specific kitchen utensil using the procedure described here.
Testing Kitchen Utensils
- Fill a microwave-safe dish with one cup of cold water (250 ml) and place the utensil to be tested in it.
- Heat for 1 minute at maximum power.
- Carefully touch the utensil. If the empty utensil is warm, do not use it for microwave cooking.
- Do not exceed the heating time by more than 1 minute.
Materials Allowed in Microwave Ovens
Utensil Type | Notes |
---|---|
Browning dish | Follow manufacturer's instructions. The base of the browning dish must be at least 3/16 inches (5 mm) above the turntable. Improper use may cause the turntable base to break. |
Dinnerware | Microwave-safe only. Follow manufacturer's instructions. Do not use cracked or chipped dishes. |
Glass jars | Always remove the lid. Use only to heat food while warm. Most glass jars are not heat-resistant and may break. |
Glass cookware | Heat-resistant glass cookware intended for oven use only. These dishes must not have a metal rim. Do not use cracked or chipped dishes. |
Oven cooking bags | Follow manufacturer's instructions. Do not seal with a metal tie. Make slits to allow steam to escape. |
Paper plates and cups | Allowed for short-term cooking/heating only. Do not leave unattended during cooking. |
Paper towels | Use for covering food when reheating, or to absorb grease. Use under supervision and for short-term cooking only. |
Parchment paper | Use as a cover to prevent splattering or for wrapping during steaming. |
Plastic | Microwave-safe only. Follow manufacturer's instructions. Must be labeled "Microwave Safe". Some plastic dishes may melt when the food inside heats up. "Cooking bags" and tightly sealed plastic bags must be slit, punctured, or vented as indicated on the packaging. |
Plastic wrap | Microwave-safe only. Use to cover food during cooking to retain moisture. Do not allow plastic wrap to come into contact with food. |
Thermometers | Microwave-safe only (meat and candy thermometers). |
Wax paper | Use as a cover to prevent splattering and retain moisture. |
Materials to Avoid in Microwave Ovens
Utensil Type | Notes |
---|---|
Aluminum tray | May cause short-circuiting through electric arc. Transfer food to a microwave-safe plate. |
Food carton with metal handle | May cause short-circuiting through electric arc. Transfer food to a microwave-safe plate. |
Utensils made of metal or with metal trim | Metal prevents microwave energy from reaching the food. Metal trim may cause short-circuiting through electric arc. |
Twist ties | May cause short-circuiting through electric arc and consequently fire in the oven. |
Paper bags | May cause fire in the oven. |
Foam plastic | When exposed to high temperatures, foam plastic may melt or contaminate the liquid inside. |
Wood | Wood used in a microwave oven will dry out and may crack or split. |
