4 Bicycle Usage
4.1 Maintenance Giant electric bicycles have plastic covers to protect electrical components. Clean these with a damp cloth and a neutral solution. Avoid using high-pressure water jets or compressed air, as this can force water into electrical components. Do not use non-neutral detergents, as they can cause discoloration or damage.
Avoid leaving your bike outdoors, as rain, snow, and sunlight can corrode components and fade paint.
4.2 Keys The bicycle comes with two keys for battery locking. Some models also include a lock. Keep key numbers and unused keys in a safe place. Always have a spare key. Bring your keys when taking the bike for service.
4.3 Range Battery range depends on various factors including weather, terrain, tire pressure, rider weight, riding style, and charge cycles.
4.4 Recommendations for Gear Changes For optimal range, shift gears according to your speed. Use a larger sprocket for slower speeds and a smaller sprocket for higher speeds. Reduce pedaling pressure when shifting gears for a smoother experience.
4.5 Drivetrain Transmission Some e-bikes have internal gear hubs. Most models have an automatic chain tensioner. For models without automatic tensioning, check and adjust chain tension manually. These adjustments should be performed by a qualified mechanic. Chain tension should have 10-15 mm of vertical movement.
Adjusting chain tension may involve loosening rear axle screws or sliding dropouts. Belt drive systems have similar adjustment procedures.
5 Troubleshooting
5.1 Event Notification If the system detects a problem, an event notification will appear on the screen. Contact your Giant dealer for diagnosis and to clear event codes.
5.2 RideControl EVO System events may display messages like 'SyncDrive error', 'RideControl error', 'Bluetooth error', 'EnergyPak error', or 'Speed sensor error'. 'No power support' may appear with a SyncDrive error. A 'Your E-bike needs servicing' message indicates a required service.
5.3 RideControl Charge Event codes (L) and EnergyPak indicators (J) will flash 3 times. The error code will be displayed. If code 'A1' appears or the EnergyPak is discharged, electric assistance will stop. Assistance continues for other event codes.
5.4 RideControl ONE In case of system events, the RideControl ONE display will show an event indication. The indicator light (H) flashes red, accompanied by event code lights (L). Event codes indicate: LED 5 (heat), LED 4 (N/A), LED 3 (speed sensor), LED 2 (motor), LED 1 (battery). Restarting the bike usually resets the system. For heat issues (LED 5), let the bike cool down before restarting.
